Former Celtic Shane Larkin goes off for 18 points vs. AX Armani Exchange Milan

Leaving the NBA to play in the Euroleague might just have been the smartest move former Celtics reserve floor general Shane Larkin made in his career.

Most of the time, when an NBA player moves from the league to play overseas, both player and fans alike tend to look at such a move as a step backward. But leaving the NBA to play in the Euroleague might have been the smartest move former Boston Celtics reserve floor general Shane Larkin made in his pro career.

The former Miami standout plays for Anadolu Efes and is setting Euroleague records. He is one of the most famous (and well-paid) guards in Europe despite barely getting floor time as a second- and at times third-string point guard in the NBA.

To see how he has been throwing it down on the court abroad, check out this clip we found of Larkin going off for 18 points vs. AX Armani Exchange Milan courtesy of the Eurohoops TV video we’ve embedded below.

“To be honest, I haven’t personally spoken to anyone”, Micic said with his teammate on the Serbian national team and NBA MVP Nikola Jokic explaining to him that if an NBA team really wants him in a meaningful role, then he will also get offered a meaningful contract. “From what I heard from my agents, there were rumors about some teams. Some teams were interested in me. As far as I understand, people there are hesitant to give me the role that I want. I was talking to Jokic, he’s the best player out there. He said to me, ‘it doesn’t matter who you are when you’re there, what matters is the role you get, whether they will sign you, and the money in return.

Why he is not part of the NBA with the NBA GMs considering him one of the top players outside the League? Micic gave his answer in Istanbul, during the Anadolu Efes media day, giving a really honest perspective about his NBA ambitions and also about everything that happened during the summer. So why he has not yet joined an NBA team yet: “I really don’t have a specific answer. I don’t want to repeat myself, I’ll be honest. I have a desire to go to the NBA, but as you can see, things are not going well. I always prioritize basketball in my decisions. I didn’t even chase after the money I am earning in Europe, which is hard to earn. I never chase money, I never chase individual prizes, but I know that if I put a lot of effort into my game and get good results, something must come in return: rewards and money…” -via EuroHoops.net / October 5, 2022
However, Micic feels that the NBA teams should approach him with a solid plan for him on their rotation with money coming second: “It makes sense, but if I ever find myself in the NBA, it’s definitely not going to be because of the money. What I’m looking for is to find an opportunity in a team. I’m looking for one team, I’m not meeting with 11 teams. I’m looking for an opportunity to show people that I can play. I’m not going there to show someone that I can dribble, that I can shoot. I am 28 years old. If someone likes me, ok, if they don’t, they don’t but I can’t go there and explain myself. I can’t say, ‘You know, I can play pick-n-roll, I can read the game. -via EuroHoops.net / October 5, 2022
I don’t expect anything too cheap or anything crazy high on the contract. The main issue for me is not money, but rather the trust of the team in me. Talking about OKC, they have my rights and I have the desire to go there, but maybe our opinions are conflicting. They want to develop their players and build a young team with all those great young guys they have. Maybe there is no space for me. Maybe the playoff candidates who want me can find a loophole and get me, but that’s out of my hands. I can’t go out there and say to them, ‘Look, I’m a good player, take me”. It’s up to them”. -via EuroHoops.net / October 5, 2022

Vasilije Micic cost too much for NBA teams?

Any team looking to acquire Micic would have to give Oklahoma City some draft compensation—preferably a first-rounder, though it’s possible the price could have been brought down. “I think that was where it was a little too much for teams,” one Western Conference executive said. “No one wanted to give up a pick plus everything else it would take. The guy can play, I think he’d be good in the NBA. But no one wanted to give up picks and money for him.”

First, there was Micic himself. To ditch Efes and head to the NBA, Micic wanted a few things—a salary in the $6-7 million per year range, a starting spot (or, at least, starter-type minutes), and a role with a contending team. That eliminated a chunk of NBA interest off the bat. -via Heavy.com / August 14, 2022

Aiming to provide a boost to Serbia in upcoming international fixtures, Vasilije Micic backpedaled to earlier in the offseason and developments regarding his NBA status. The Anadolu Efes star talked to the news outlet Sport Klub. “The deadline was on 20 July and I did not change teams,” he confirmed the time constraint on moving his talents to the NBA this summer, per Google Translate, “I stayed at Efes. Monte Morris on the block?

With Denver having acquired the No. 30 pick, league sources expect the Nuggets will target a point guard such as Gonzaga ball-handler Andrew Nembhard. Denver has engaged various teams in trade conversations regarding Monte Morris, the sturdy reserve point guard who filled in as its starter with Jamal Murray sidelined for the season. Some rival executives were prepared for Morris to be replaced by Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic, whose rights are held by OKC, as part of the Green trade. Micic, 28, led Turkish club Anadolu Efes to the 2020-21 EuroLeague title while winning the EuroLeague MVP and has garnered trade interest from several playoff teams, such as Milwaukee and Chicago, sources said.

Dyson Daniels is unlikely to be on the board at No. 16, but if the Hawks do trade up to potentially No. 7 in a deal with Portland (and discussions have occurred, according to sources), he should be Atlanta’s pick if he’s available. The Hawks need more perimeter defenders, and he’s arguably the best one in the draft. Additionally, Daniels’ ability to be a playmaker with a point guard’s handle should be intriguing to Atlanta. -via The Athletic / June 14, 2022
The Knicks have also been linked to Brogdon in recent days by league personnel. New York is known to have interest in trading up from the No. 11 pick, with a perceived target of Purdue combo guard Jaden Ivey. But if New York doesn’t jump up the lottery order—league executives don’t forecast such a deal—and determines it is out of the running for free agent-to-be Jalen Brunson, Brogdon has been mentioned as one of several potential backup options for the Knicks to plug their hole at starting point guard. -via Bleacher Report / June 14, 2022
Meanwhile, the Bulls remain invested in finding the optimal frontcourt lynchpin to pair with LaVine and DeRozan. Chicago continues to explore the trade market for two-time All-Star center Nikola Vucevic, sources said. It has registered interest in Rudy Gobert, but the Bulls do not appear willing to include Patrick Williams alongside Vucevic in a trade package for Gobert, sources told B/R. -via Bleacher Report / June 14, 2022
