LSU baseball’s Luke Holman and Tommy White named ABCA All-Americans

Tommy White and Luke Holman have been named Second Team All-Americans by the ABCA.

The [autotag]American Baseball Coaches Association[/autotag] has released the list of their All-Americans and two Tigers have made the list. [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] and [autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] have been named Second Team All-Americans by the ABCA after their performances this season.

[autotag]Luke Holman[/autotag] had the best season of his collegiate career as he finished the season with a 9-4 record and a 2.75 ERA. He pitched 91.2 innings and struck out 127 hitters while only walking 33 in that time. Holman will be participating in the MLB Draft Combine as he looks to increase his draft stock.

[autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] finished the season with a .330 batting average with 12 doubles, one triple, 24 homers and 70 RBI. This season was not as stellar as last season but he was still one of the best players in the country. Like Holman, Tommy will also be attending the draft combine.

Both players could hear their names called early in the 2024 MLB draft but if they don’t like where they are drafted they both have the option to return to Baton Rouge.

ABCA announces minor changes for 2024 NCAA tournament

Last Thursday, the American Baseball Coaches Association met to announce some new changes for the 2024 NCAA tournament.

Last Thursday, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) met to announce some new changes for the 2024 NCAA tournament.

One of the first announcements made was that players will be able to have their walk-up music during Regional and Super Regional play. That was a positive change as it allowed players to show a little more of their personality and helped them feel more comfortable as they stepped to the plate.

Another change that was implemented is that “Host teams in regionals and super regionals cannot use university housing for visiting teams, rather, they must be housed in hotels.”

This issue occurred at Kentucky last season when the Wildcats were hosting a Regional in Lexington but due to a music festival being in town, there were not enough hotel rooms for all of the visiting teams. That led to Kentucky having to house some of the players in campus dorms.

That is no longer allowed.

Another minor change that won’t affect the players but may play a factor in Regional seeding is that each game in each quadrant will now factor in the location of the game.

Here is the explanation.

Until now, game results were grouped strictly by RPI, with the quadrants as follows:

  • Quad 1: RPI 1-25
  • Quad 2: 26-50
  • Quad 3: 51-100
  • Quad 4: 101+

Moving forward, the quadrants will take into account results being at home, at a neutral site and on the road, as follows:

  • Quad 1: Home games vs. RPI 1-25, neutral site games vs. 1-40, road games vs. 1-60
  • Quad 2: Home games vs. RPI 26-50, neutral site games vs. 41-80, road games vs. 61-120
  • Quad 3: Home games vs. RPI 51-100, neutral site games vs. 81-160, road games vs. 121-240
  • Quad 4: Home games vs. RPI 101+, neutral site games vs. 161+, road games vs. 241+

Note again that this does not signify any change in how the RPI is calculated. It simply changes the way the quadrant records appear on a team sheet in front of the selection committee.

As stated before, that does not affect the players much but it will be an interesting stat for the committee as they try to determine regional seeding.
