Wisconsin transfer safety commits to MAC school, joins Amare Snowden

Wisconsin transfer safety Braedyn Moore committed to Toledo on Friday.

The rising redshirt sophomore joins former Badgers cornerback Amare Snowden with the Rockets. Of the 21 Wisconsin scholarship players to enter the portal since the conclusion of the 2024 season, Moore is the sixth to announce his next destination.

Moore initially joined the Badgers as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, ranked as the No. 321 player in the class, No. 13 athlete and No. 9 recruit from his home state of Ohio. He was first committed to Cincinnati before flipping to the Badgers, following head coach Luke Fickell.

Moore is notably among 11 members of Fickell’s class of 2023 to transfer out. Most of those departures have come from the cornerback and safety positions, eliminating much of the program’s secondary depth.

The underclassman safety played sparingly in his two years with the program. He recorded just two tackles and a fumble recovery in 2024, playing in a top-heavy safety room led by star Hunter Wohler and veteran Preston Zachman. He commits to Toledo with three years of eligibility remaining.

Moore’s move to Toledo follows five former Badgers to announce their transfer destinations. Outside linebacker Leon Lowery committed to Illinois, Snowden to Toledo, cornerback Jonas Duclona to South Florida, safety Justin Taylor to Wyoming and tight end Riley Nowakowski to Indiana.

Wisconsin has addressed the safety position since Moore’s departure, adding commitments from Football Championship Subdivision transfer Matthew Traynor (Richmond) and D-III transfer Matt Jung (Bethel)

Former Wisconsin cornerback Amare Snowden committed to Toledo on Friday.

According to his announcement on X, the former top high school baseball prospect will play both football and baseball at the school.

Snowden is one of 16 Wisconsin scholarship players to enter the portal since the conclusion of the 2024 season. He is the first to find a new destination.

The former four-star class of 2023 recruit played for two years at Wisconsin. He originally joined the Badgers’ class after flipping his commitment from Cincinnati, following head coach Luke Fickell.

Snowden did not see the field as a true freshman in 2023, then recorded just a single tackle in brief action in 2024. He was one of several class of 2023 cornerbacks to enter the transfer portal this week. Only four of the 15 members of that class remain with the program, the rest having transferred out either this offseason or last.

Snowden was recruited for both baseball and football coming out of high school. His commitment to Wisconsin signaled a focus on the latter, as the school does not have a varsity baseball program.

The Roseville, Michigan native has appeared to find a new destination where he can play both. The Rockets went 7-5 on the football field in 2024, making the program’s fourth consecutive bowl game. The baseball program, meanwhile, finished sixth in the MAC in 2024 at 16-14.

BREAKING: Wisconsin cornerback, top 2023 recruit to enter transfer portal

BREAKING: Wisconsin cornerback, top 2023 recruit to enter transfer portal

Wisconsin redshirt freshman cornerback Amare Snowden announced on Sunday his intention to enter the transfer portal.

Snowden is the second Badger to signal a move to the portal when it opens on Dec. 9, joining veteran outside linebacker Leon Lowery.

“I would like to thank my coaches and teammates for the experiences and lessons throughout the past two years of my life,” Snowden wrote on X. “I will forever be grateful for the Wisconsin community. With that said, after deep consideration and talking with my family. … I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility left.”

Snowden joined the Badgers as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, flipping his commitment from Cincinnati after Luke Fickell took the job in November 2022. He was the No. 446 player in the class, No. 45 cornerback and No. 9 player from his home state of Michigan.

Snowden rarely saw the field during his two years in Madison. He did not see any game action as a true freshman in 2023 and recorded just one tackle in limited action in 2024.

He departs a crowded cornerback room in Madison. Ricardo Hallman and Nyzier Fourqurean led the group in 2024. Top freshman Xavier Lucas and sophomore Jonas Duclona appear ready to rise into big roles in 2025.

Snowden is unlikely to be the last Badger to enter the transfer portal this offseason. It projects to be a busy offseason of player movement as Fickell and his staff work to redirect the program’s trajectory.

A Wisconsin football signee is dominating in a different high school sport

A Wisconsin football signee is dominating in a different high school sport

There are a number of recruits who dominate in two sports during their high school careers. You often see high school football stars dominating in basketball or track and field, but it’s not often you see an elite cornerback recruit dominating on the pitcher’s mound.

Four-star Wisconsin signee Amare Snowden is doing just that. At Roseville High School in Michigan, Snowden has excelled in baseball and football, recently putting together a gem on the mound.

The 2023 signee just had a 15-strikeout game on the bump while giving up no runs over seven innings. He allowed just two hits in the win. Sadly, and to the criticism of many fans, Wisconsin doesn’t have a baseball team, or Snowden could think about suiting up for multiple Badger programs.

WATCH: Wisconsin HC Luke Fickell’s interview with Rivals about Wisconsin’s 2023 recruiting class

Watch HC Luke Fickell’s interview with Rivals’ Clint Cosgrove about Wisconsin’s 2023 recruiting class:

After an outstanding performance to start his first early signing period as Wisconsin head coach, Luke Fickell spoke with Rivals’ Clint Cosgrove about the Badgers’ additions to their 2023 recruiting class on Wednesday.

In the interview, Fickell spoke extensively about the importance of creating strong relationships with current players and recruits, as well as his respect for the culture at Wisconsin. He believes that these were vital to the Badgers keeping many of their commits and adding even more.

Fickell surprised many throughout the county with two huge signees in wide receiver Trech Kekahuna and cornerback Amare Snowden, who are rated as four-star prospects by Rivals. Kekahuna had initially committed to Wisconsin, but de-committed shortly after HC Paul Chryst was fired. The Badgers were, fortunately, able to flip him back on Wednesday after he committed to Arizona last week.

It should be exciting to see what Luke Fickell will continue to do in his first recruiting cycle as the Badgers’ head coach.

Iowa football visitors react to weekend visits with the Hawkeyes

Iowa hosted some talented football players this past weekend. Here were some of their reactions.

With spring practices in full swing, Iowa welcomed in a plethora of talented prospects across the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes and turned this past weekend into an important recruiting effort. It resulted in a pair of offers to class of 2024 athlete Caleb Benning and 2023 offensive lineman Logan Howland.

Howland’s teammate and Iowa quarterback commit [autotag]Marco Lainez III[/autotag] made the trip with him to Iowa City. Benning’s Omaha Westside teammates RJ Eckhardt, Jahmez Ross and Anthony Rezac made the trip as well.

The Hawkeyes also hosted five-star, class of 2023 offensive tackle [autotag]Kadyn Proctor[/autotag] out of Southeast Polk High School in Des Moines, Iowa. Ankeny, Iowa, native and Iowa Central Community College wide receiver [autotag]Jordan Kumm[/autotag] was in attendance. Mike Reed recently was in contact with another cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class, this one coming from the state of Michigan.

Clemson’s cornerbacks coach spoke with Roseville (MI.) High School three-star Amare Snowden, who was among the top performers at this past weekend’s Battle Miami 7-on-7 tournament.

“He’s following me and was telling me that the play that went viral this weekend down in Miami, my catch and the pick,” Snowden said. “He was just telling me to keep balling and stuff.”

For Snowden, it was surreal to see his interception go viral on Twitter, but he wants people to understand the background of what happened prior to that play.

He was going up against a highly-recruited wideout, who has over 50 something offers. Going up against elite talent and showing that he belongs was more meaningful than the highlight-reel catch itself, he said.

Snowden also came away with a game-winning interception.

Snowden is a two-way player, but teams are looking at him as a defensive back. He loves to play defense and just by talking to him, you can understand why.

He’s very detail-oriented in the way he processes information on the football field. Matching up against wide receivers at the line of scrimmage, he pays attention to the little minute details like how their feet are lined up or if they’re pulling their gloves.

‘When I go to camps or anything, I go against the top guys,” he said. “I let them go ahead and get their first rep. Their second or third rep is gonna be my first rep. I’m just looking at how they run their routes. I’m looking at the little tendencies they do, to just help me out.”

He’s also a star on the baseball diamond. Snowden’s an outfielder and left-handed pitcher. In his own words, Snowden’s gonna play baseball until “the wheels fall off.”

Snowden’s recruitment has blown up over the past month or so. Since Jan. 10, he’s picked up offers from the University of Arkansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Akron, Ole Miss and Boston College, which offered him early Wednesday morning.

That being said, what did it mean for Snowden to hear from Reed?

“It’s always cool to hear from the top coaches in the country,” he said. “It felt good to just have that conversation with him.”

While Clemson is just beginning its relationship with Snowden, TCI has highlighted him as a player worth keeping an eye on in the 2023 recruiting class.
