Notre Dame’s John Michael Bertrand named ACC Pitcher of the Week

Notre Dame continues to turn heads this season.

As Notre Dame continues a season in which it is highly ranked, one more individual accolade has come its way. John Michael Bertrand, a left-handed graduate transfer from Furman and native of Alpharetta, Georgia, has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week. In Saturday’s 5-3 win over Florida State, Bertrand threw seven shutout innings and set a career high with nine strikeouts. Link Jarrett, coach of the 25-10 Irish, had this to say about Bertrand’s performance:

“John Michael is a pleasure to have on our team and every facet of his efforts to help our program stand out. His ability to mix pitches effectively w command has stood out in most of his starts, and he continued that trend this past Saturday.”

During the victory, improved to 6-1 and added onto his team lead in strikeouts, of which he now has 49. Over 10 starts, he has accumulated a 3.02 ERA over a team-high 65 2/3 innings.

 

Georgia football offers 2022 Alpharetta offensive tackle

Wednesday, Alpharetta, Georgia offensive tackle Dayne Shor announced a scholarship offer from UGA football in the 2022 recruiting class.

Wednesday, Dayne Shor, a 6-foot-6 295 pound offensive tackle from Alpharetta, Georgia tweeted that he received and offer from Georgia in the 2022 recruiting class.

Although Shor is not ranked nationally, the Denmark High School prospect holds offers from Flordia, Auburn and Florida St. among seven others.

Currently, Georgia has zero commitments in the class of 2022. In the past few weeks, though, the Bulldogs’ 2021 class has come together nicely with the recent additions of 4-star running back Lovasea Carroll and 4-star defensive end Elijah Jeudy. Currently, Georgia’s 2021 recruiting class ranks ninth in the nation. Just last week it was sitting at No. 7.

Slocum is currently rated as the 17th best safety in the 2021 recruiting class by 247Sports and the 35th best player in Georgia.

The season may be over but the building for the future of Notre Dame football continues on the recruiting trail.

Currently ranked second by Rivals in the 2021 team recruiting rankings, Brian Kelly and his Fighting Irish coaching staff made an offer Monday to a safety who could potentially help that number.

Jaden Slocum, a 6-2, 181 pound safety from Alpharetta, Georgia tweeted Monday night that he had received a scholarship offer from Kelly and Notre Dame.

Slocum is currently rated as the 17th best safety in the 2021 recruiting class by 247Sports and the 35th best player in Georgia.

He already holds scholarship offers from Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
