Photos from the Phog: Sooners 2nd half extends drought inside Allen Fieldhouse

After trailing by one at the half, the Sooners couldn’t stay with the Jayhawks, extending their drought inside Allen Fieldhouse.

The Oklahoma Sooners trailed at halftime by one point on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks. In a place the Sooners haven’t won since 1993, OU was off to a good start.

However, Bill Self and the Jayhawks made adjustments in the second half to take away the things that were working for the Sooners. In the end, the Jayhawks pulled away in the second half for a 78-66 win.

The Sooners dropped to 1-2 in Big 12 play and are 0-2 on the road. In both losses to TCU and Kansas, the Sooners weren’t really competitive in the second half.

Javian McCollum, who had 12 points in the first half, was held to five in the second on 1 of 3 shooting and was 0 for 2 from three.

Oklahoma has to figure out a way to win on the road. They’ve been really good at home, but in games against North Carolina, TCU, and now Kansas have struggled in the second half.

Here’s a look at the best photos from Oklahoma’s loss to Kansas.

No. 8 Kansas perfectly trolled Indiana after demolishing the No. 14 Hoosiers at Allen Fieldhouse

Rule 1 of Twitter: Never tweet.

The No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers never appeared to threaten the No. 8 Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday.

KU opened up the clash of bluebloods on a 12-2 run and that was about as close as things got for the rest of the day. The Jayhawks (-5.5) stormed away with an 84-62 win.

Kansas shot 51.5 percent from the field, held IU to 37.7 percent from the field and won the rebound battle, 35-32, despite Trayce Jackson-Davis blocking nine shots for the Hoosiers.

It was a statement game for the Jayhawks, who dropped two spots in the AP poll after demolishing undefeated Missouri last Saturday. It also set a pretty brutal tone for the home-and-home series with IU. The Jayhawks will visit Bloomington next season to complete the deal.

And based on the Jayhawks’ farewell message, Indiana should be plenty riled up for the rematch.

That looks like a pretty harmless tweet…until you remember what Indiana posted after knocking off then-No. 18 North Carolina at Assembly Hall on Nov. 30 (what was, at the time, a signature victory for the Hoosiers).

That’s cold-blooded.

The Jayhawks really held onto this for more than two weeks just to throw it back in the Hoosiers’ faces after a non-conference matchup.

It’s worth noting Indiana lost three of its next four games after sending that tweet, so KU might want to avoid a similar jinx.

Either way, Round 2 between Kansas and Indiana just got a lot more interesting.

Dick Vitale teared up as Kansas and Indiana fans gave him an emotional standing ovation

Welcome back, Dickie V!

Basketball fans gave longtime broadcaster Dick Vitale a heartwarming welcome back to Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday.

As the Kansas Jayhawks took on the Indiana Hoosiers — Kansas won, 84-62 — Vitale got a standing ovation from the crowd as he returned to commentate games after undergoing cancer treatments earlier this year.

The long ovation got to Vitale, who shed some tears and sounded very grateful when reflecting on the moment during the broadcast.

“Dickie V” has always been one of the easiest people to root for in the college basketball world. It was great to see the Allen Fieldhouse crowd give Vitale his flowers in such a loving way after he’s had such a tough year.

It’s hard to watch that clip and not feel a great deal of appreciation that Vitale is back on the sidelines calling games.

The college basketball world just isn’t the same without him, and the fans at Saturday’s game found the perfect way to welcome the longtime broadcaster back to where he belongs.

Tonight TCU is traveling to Lawrence, Kansas to take on the #1 Kansas Jayhawks at the Allen Fieldhouse. Backed by the nation’s best defense Kansas will look to end the season strong against the Horned Frogs, who are also coming off a big win over the Baylor Bears.

TCU Horned Frogs vs #1 Kansas Jayhawks (-16)

Date: March 4, 2020

Tip-Off: 8:00pm ET

Where: Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence KS

Live Stream: ESPN+( Sign up Now)

Desmond Bane seemed unstoppable last game against Baylor putting up 23 points and knocking off the Bears. TCU will need another performance from Bane to be able to contend against the number one Kansas Jayhawks, especially at home.

The Jayhawks have been crushing teams at home as of late, winning their last three games by an average of 20.7 points. They beat up on TCU in their first meeting 60-46 earlier last month. TCU has also had some big wins over their last three games so they need to come out on fire to compete with Kansas.

Probable Starters

No. 1 Kansas

G – Devon Dotson, 6-2, 185, Soph.

G – Ochai Agbaji, 6-5, 210, Soph.

G – Isaiah Moss, 6-5, 208, Sr.

G – Marcus Garrett, 6-5, 195, Jr.

C – Udoka Azubuike, 7-0, 265, Sr.

TCU

G – Edric Dennis Jr., 6-3, 190, Sr.

G – Desmond Bane, 6-6, 215, Sr.

G – P.J. Fuller, 6-4, 175, Fr.

G – Jaire Grayer, 6-5, 210, Sr.

C – Kevin Samuel, 6-11, 250, Soph.

Prediction: With Kansas beating teams at home at a clip of 20 plus points you have to take the Jayhawks in this one. I think the Horned Frogs will be drained after knocking off a couple surprise teams over the last three games. Pick: Kansas Jayhawks (-16)

Oklahoma State at Kansas college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Oklahoma State Cowboys at Kansas Jayhawks betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys (14-13, 4-10 Big 12) hit the road to tangle with the Kansas Jayhawks (24-3, 13-1 Big 12) at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kan., at 9 p.m. ET Monday. We analyze the Oklahoma State-Kansas odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

The Jayhawks were ranked 3rd in last week’s USA TODAY Sports men’s basketball coaches poll and are expected to be No. 1 when the new poll is released later Monday.

Oklahoma State at Kansas: Three things you need to know

1. The Cowboys are flying high after drumming in-state rival Oklahoma Saturday by an 83-66 score as 1 1/2-point favorites.

2. Kansas won the first meeting 65-50 in Stillwater, Okla., covering a 7 1/2-point spread as the Under (137) comfortably cashed.

3. The Jayhawks have won 12 straight games dating back to Jan. 11. They’re 9-3 ATS during the impressive span, including 5-0 ATS across the past five outings.

Prediction

Kansas 73, Oklahoma State 61

Moneyline (ML)

AVOID. Yes, Kansas (-1667) should keep the good times rolling, but there is no way to justify laying almost 17 times your return on investment. My personal limit is the -170 to -180 range, so this is way too much bother for such a small return.

New to sports betting? One must wager $16.67 just to profit $1 for Kansas to win. Whereas, Oklahoma State (+900) offers a 9-to-1 payoff, but that isn’t happening.

Against the Spread (ATS)

OKLAHOMA STATE (+15, -110) is coming in on a high note after blasting Oklahoma. Kansas (-15, -110) is also coming off a big win, beating then-No. 1 Baylor 64-61 on the road Saturday. However, you can expect a bit of a drop-off in intensity and emotion against a much less challenging opponent.

Over/Under (O/U)

The lean in this one is to the UNDER 134.5 (-110), although I don’t have a strong opinion one way or the other. The Under has hit in the past two road games for the Cowboys, and easily cashed in the first head-to-head meeting, too. The Over is 5-1 in the past six home games for Kansas, so the trends are all over the place. The best play here is to AVOID, or go lightly on Under.

Iowa State at Kansas college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing Monday’s Iowa State Cyclones at Kansas Jayhawks sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks and tips.

The Iowa State Cyclones (11-14) head to Allen Fieldhouse to play the Kansas Jayhawks (22-3) at 9 p.m. ET. We analyze the Iowa State-Kansas odds and betting lines, with college basketball betting advice and tips around this matchup.

Iowa State at Kansas: Three things you need to know

  1. Iowa State has beaten Kansas only once at Allen Fieldhouse since 2011. The Cyclones beat the Jayhawks 92-89 in overtime in 2017 but that Iowa State team won 24 games and earned an NCAA Tournament berth. This year’s team will need a miracle run in this year’s Big XII tournament to play in the tourney.
  2. Kansas won its 10th straight game by beating the Oklahoma Sooners 87-70 Saturday.
  3. The Cyclones are looking for back-to-back victories, after beating the Texas Longhorns 81-52 Saturday, for the first time since defeating Missouri-Kansas City and Seton Hall in consecutive games back in early December.

Prediction

Jayhawks 80, Iowa State 69

Moneyline (ML)

FORGET ABOUT A MONEYLINE WAGER in Iowa State-Kansas. Since 2015, Kansas (-2500) has the best home record (71-5) and the best record against Big XII conference opponent (75-19). The Jayhawks are also 66-5 as home favorites with a 14.5-point average margin of victory.

Iowa State (+1100) already took a 26-point whooping at home to Kansas Jan. 8, and the Jayhawks’ only home loss this season came to the No. 1 Baylor Bears by a 67-55 count Jan. 11.

Against the Spread (ATS)

TAKE IOWA STATE +16.5 (-115) at Kansas. Kansas hasn’t consistently met bookmakers’ expectations at home against bad teams this season. The Jayhawks are 3-7 against the spread against teams below .500.

Iowa State is a bad team, who has to be flying high off the beating it put on Texas Saturday. The Cyclones are 8-2 ATS over the last 10 meetings and the road team is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings. There’s a good chance Kansas is looking ahead to its Saturday game against Baylor and could sleep on a Cyclones team it crushed in the season’s first meeting.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 143.5 (+125) is the only play here for the total. The vig on the Under (-154) is too high and there are too many arguments for taking a plus-money Over. The Cyclones have a 13-11-1 Over/Under record thus far on the season and they have the highest percentage of Overs (53-37-2) in conference games since 2015. Furthermore, Iowa State ranks 239th in opponent field goal percentage, 311th in opponent 3-point % and 255th in opponent points per game, so the Jayhawks should have offensive success.
