Ravens’ Kyle Hamilton finished 9th in voting for the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

Ravens’ Kyle Hamilton finished 9th in voting for the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year

The Ravens finished the 2024 season with one of the NFL’s top defensive units, and it showed in the Defensive Player of the Year award voting.

All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton finished ninth in voting for the award.

Hamilton has the second-highest Pro Football Focus (PFF) grade of any safety in the league, trailing only Lions safety Kerby Joseph and his league-leading nine interceptions. Hamilton is the NFL’s only defensive back to post at least 100 tackles, an interception, two sacks, and two forced fumbles.

Bengals stars land on 2024 All-Pro team

Two Bengals players make history.

The Cincinnati Bengals may have missed the playoffs at 9-8 this season but some of their players are still getting some recognition for their play this season by the Associated Press.

Two Bengals players were named to the AP All Pro team this season, both landing on the First Team. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, after winning the Triple Crown this season with 127 catches, 1,708 yards, and 17 touchdowns, was perhaps the easiest All-Pro vote this season. He ended up a unanimous selection, getting 50 first-place votes, as did Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

The other All-Pro Bengal makes plenty of sense as well. Defensive end Trey Hendrickson led the league with 17.5 sacks this season and did so with very little help elsewhere in the pass rush. Hendrickson received 35 first-place votes and 118 total votes — first-place votes were worth three points, second-place votes were worth one. Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett earned 45 first-place votes and 140 total points.

Three other Bengals players earned votes but not enough to make the team. Quarterback Joe Burrow received two first-place votes and 13 total points, finishing third behind Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

Wide receiver Tee Higgins and slot cornerback Mike Hilton each saw a second-place vote.

5 other Broncos players received 2024 All-Pro votes

The Broncos had five players named 2024 All-Pros, and five other Denver players also received votes.

The Denver Broncos had five players named to 2024 Associated Press All-Pro teams on Friday, their most in a single season since 1996.

Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain, right guard Quinn Meinerz and punt returner Marvin Mims were named first-team All-Pros while edge defender Nik Bonitto and interior defensive lineman Zach Allen received second-team All-Pro recognition.

Additionally, five other Denver players also received All-Pro votes.

Broncos left tackle Garett Bolles (nine votes), fullback Michael Burton (six), safety Brandon Jones (five), long snapper Mitchell Fraboni (four) and wide receiver Courtland Sutton (one) were also recognized in the process.

Surtain, Bonitto and Mims were also named Pro Bowl starters and eight Denver players were named alternates for the Pro Bowl. Surtain and Mims were also named to the 2024 NFLPA’s All-Pro team.

The Broncos just wrapped up their best regular season since 2015, so it’s no surprise that accolades are pouring in. Up next is a likely Defensive Player of the Year nod for Surtain during “NFL Honors” in February.

Cowboys have 1 first-team AP All-Pro in 2024, 2 second-teamers

The Associated Press has revealed its All-Pro Team for 2024, and Cowboys fans will notice the same kind of dropoff from 2023 that they saw on the actual field all season long.

After putting a league-high nine players on the first and second teams last year, Dallas has just one first-teamer and two second-team All-Pros after their disappointing 7-10 campaign.

The Associated Press began naming All-Pro Teams in 1940, with the best players at each position selected by a national panel of AP media members. There is no AFC-versus-NFC designation, with players from both conferences making up both the first-team (top vote-getters) and the second-team (runners-up) rosters.

Cowboys kick returner KaVontae Turpin was the only Cowboys player to make the AP’s first team this season. He led the league in kick return yards in 2024 and was named to the Pro Bowl. This is his first All-Pro Selection.

The second team features CeeDee Lamb as one of the three wide receivers, along with Washington’s Terry McLaurin and Philadelphia’s A.J. Brown. (Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, and Amon-Ra St. Brown make up the first-team WR corps.) Lamb was seventh in the league in both targets and receptions and ninth in receiving yards, despite missing the final two games of the season. Lamb was a first-team All-Pro last year and a second-teamer previously in 2022.

Also on the second team for 2024 is kicker Brandon Aubrey. (Pittsburgh’s Chris Boswell took first-team honors.) Aubrey had a league-high 47 field goal attempts this season, and his 41 field goals made were just one behind the leader, Boswell. Aubrey’s 65-yarder was the longest three-pointer made across the NFL this season and the second-longest kick conversion of all time. Aubrey was the AP’s first-team kicker last season in his rookie campaign.

Zack Martin and DaRon Bland were named first-team All-Pros in 2023. Dak Prescott, Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Micah Parsons, and Bryan Anger received second-team honors a season ago. All were passed over entirely in 2024.

3 Pittsburgh Steelers earn AP All-Pro Honors

Three Pittsburgh Steelers earned well-deserved recognition from the Associated Press when its All-Pro team was announced on Jan. 10

Three Pittsburgh Steelers earned well-deserved recognition from the Associated Press when its All-Pro team was announced on Jan. 10, showcasing their elite contributions to the Black and Gold.

Chris Boswell landed on the first-team All-Pro, cementing his status as one of the NFL’s most reliable specialists. Boswell’s consistent ability to deliver under pressure was critical in tight games, proving why he’s affectionately nicknamed “The Wizard of Boz.”

T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward earned second-team All-Pro honors, demonstrating their dominance on the defensive side. Watt, a perennial force, showed why he’s a former Defensive Player of the Year, wreaking havoc on quarterbacks and fueling the Steelers’ pass rush. Heyward, the heart and soul of the defensive line, continued his tradition of excellence with relentless energy and leadership in the trenches.

These honors are a testament to the Steelers’ commitment to excellence and their Watt, Heyward and Boswell’s pivotal roles in the team’s success.

Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz just triggered a big incentive

Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz just earned an extra $1.5 million after being named a 2024 All-Pro.

It pays to make the Associated Press All-Pro team.

After being named a first-team All-Pro on Friday, Denver Broncos guard Quinn Meinerz has triggered salary escalators for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 seasons, according to multiple reports. Meinerz is now set to earn an extra $500,000 in each of those three seasons.

So his All-Pro nod this year earned him an extra $1.5 million down the road. And if Meinerz earns more All-Pro nods in future seasons, he’ll earn additional incentives.

Meinerz received a league-high 22 first-team votes at guard, plus eight second-team votes. Meinerz was also named a first-alternate for the 2025 Pro Bowl. The 26-year-old lineman is widely considered one of the top guards in the league.

Meinerz was one of five Broncos players who earned All-Pro honors this season. Five other Denver players also received votes: left tackle Garett Bolles (nine votes), fullback Michael Burton (six), safety Brandon Jones (five), long snapper Mitchell Fraboni (four) and wide receiver Courtland Sutton (one).

1 person didn’t vote for Pat Surtain as a first-team All-Pro

Who is the one person who didn’t vote for Pat Surtain?!? We’d just like to talk…

Denver Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain is the clear favorite to win the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year award after wrapping up the best regular season of all the league’s defensive players.

So it’s no surprise that Surtain was named a first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press on Friday. But this is a surprise: somebody didn’t vote for PS2, at least not as a first-choice cornerback.

The AP polls a national panel of 50 media members who elect an All-Pro team each season. Of those 50 media members, only 49 voted for Surtain as a first-team All-Pro, according to the AP‘s published voting data.

Whoever did not vote for Surtain as a first-team cornerback did vote for him for the second-team squad, but it’s still shocking that PS2 wasn’t a unanimous selection.

Update: Ben Volin of the Boston Globe did not vote for Surtain:

Surtain was one of five Broncos players who earned All-Pro honors this season. Five other Denver players also received votes: left tackle Garett Bolles (nine votes), fullback Michael Burton (six), safety Brandon Jones (five), long snapper Mitchell Fraboni (four) and wide receiver Courtland Sutton (one).

Xavier McKinney named first-team All-Pro, who else received votes for Packers?

Xavier McKinney was voted a first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. Four of his Packers teammates also received votes.

Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney was voted a first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press, and while none of his teammates were voted first- or second-team All-Pro, four different teammates received All-Pro votes.

Fifty voters from the Associated Press determine the All-Pro teams.

McKinney received 107 total votes, including 31 first-team votes (first-team votes count as three each, second-team count as one).

Other Packers receiving second-team votes:

— Elgton Jenkins received 10 votes at left guard.

— Zach Tom received three votes at right tackle.

— Rookie Edgerrin Cooper received one vote at linebacker.

— Keisean Nixon received one vote at cornerback.

— Keisean Nixon received seven votes at kick returner.

Jenkins finished fourth among left guards, trailing Joe Thuney, Quenton Nelson and Landon Dickerson, while Tom finished third at right tackle behind Penei Sewell and Lane Johnson. Nixon, a two-time All-Pro at kickoff returner, finished fifth this year.

Cooper played in only 14 games, made only four starts and was on the field for fewer than 500 total snaps, but he finished with 13 tackles for loss — second among off-ball linebackers — and was arguably the second-best defensive rookie in football behind Jared Verse. He was one of 24 off-ball linebackers to receive an All-Pro vote.

Running back Josh Jacobs did not receive a single vote. Only Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Jahmyr Gibbs received All-Pro votes at running back.

McKinney finished second in first-team votes at safety behind Kerby Joseph, who got 37. McKinney was the only Packers player to receive a first-team vote.

Rams have no 2024 All-Pros but these 5 players received votes

The Rams didn’t have any All-Pro selections this season but 5 players did receive consideration from voters

The Associated Press revealed its first- and second-team All-Pro selections for the 2024 season on Friday and the Los Angeles Rams were absent from both lists. They had no first-team All-Pro selections, which is just the second time that’s happened since 2015 (thanks to Aaron Donald).

As disappointing as it is for the Rams to have no All-Pros, five players did receive votes from the panel. They were at least in the conversation for being All-Pros, but they didn’t get enough votes to earn a spot.

  • WR Puka Nacua: 9 votes (1 first place)
  • RG Kevin Dotson: 1 vote
  • DT Kobie Turner: 3 votes
  • P Ethan Evans: 6 votes (2 first place)
  • ST Michael Hoecht: 3 votes

Puka Nacua led the way for the Rams with nine total votes, including one first-place vote. He was 10th among all wide receivers in voting. Kevin Dotson received one vote at right guard, putting him eighth at his position.

On defense, the Rams had just one player in consideration: Kobie Turner. The standout defensive tackle received three votes, which was 11th-best in that group.

On special teams, Ethan Evans didn’t quite make the cut but he received six votes, two of which were first-place votes. Only five punters received more votes than Evans. Michael Hoecht received three votes as a special teams player, eighth at that position. He blocked three kicks this season.

Penei Sewell headlines 4 Lions earning 1st-team All-Pro honors in 2024

Penei Sewell headlines 4 Lions earning 1st-team All-Pro honors in 2024, with two more Lions also earning 2nd-team nods

There are a lot of end-of-season awards and honors lists around these days. The one that matters the most, the one the NFL itself utilizes in its official records, is the Associated Press All-Pro voting results.

The 50 AP voters around the country voted following the end of the 2024 regular season, with the results being released on Friday. Four Detroit Lions players earned first-team All-Pro honors:

Right tackle Penei Sewell

Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown

Safety Kerby Joseph

Punter Jack Fox

In addition, two Lions earned second-team All-Pro recognition. Center Frank Ragnow and punt returner Kalif Raymond captured that honor.
