Trio of LSU stars named preseason All-Americans by Athlon

The Tigers lost a lot of pieces, but they return some elite ones as well.

After suffering considerable losses on both sides of the ball following the 2023 season, the Tigers don’t enter the 2024 season with quite as much hype as they did last year when they began the campaign as a top-five team.

Still, LSU has quite a bit of talent on the roster this coming fall, headlined by a trio of players who were named preseason All-Americans by Athlon. [autotag]Will Campbell[/autotag] and [autotag]Harold Perkins[/autotag] were listed among the offensive and defensive First Team, respectively, while [autotag]Emery Jones[/autotag] cracked the third team.

Campbell — a bona fide first overall draft pick candidate — enters his junior season and is one of the top offensive lineman in the entire country at left tackle. Perkins, meanwhile, is coming off a bit of a disappointing campaign after a huge true freshman season.

He played mostly off-ball linebacker but could see more action on the weak side this year as LSU tries to figure out how best to use his talent.

Jones, meanwhile, also enters his third season. After some struggles starting as a true freshman, he took a major leap in 2023 as a sophomore becoming one of the SEC’s best tackles.

All three of these players could be poised for huge seasons, and we’ll see if they can crack these lists at the end of the season.

Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo named AP First Team All-American

What a season she’s had.

[autotag]Hannah Hidalgo[/autotag] has had a special freshman season at Notre Dame, and now, we know exactly how special. She has joined USC’s JuJu Watkins as the fourth and fifth freshmen to be named to the AP All-American First Team since it began during the 1994-95 season. They join Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, South Carolina’s MiLaysia Fulwiley and Texas’ Madison Booker.

IT’S BRACKET MADNESS: Enter USA TODAY’s NCAA tournament bracket contest for a chance at $1 million prize.

Trojans coach Lindsay Gottlieb obviously has seen Watkins up close and personal throughout this season, but she reserved praise for Hidalgo, too:

“We’ve had a front row seat to JuJu, but what Hannah’s done is unbelievable Coach Niele (Ivey) has done an incredible job.”

Ivey also was quoted in the AP story and said this about Hidalgo, the nation’s steals leader at 4.6 a game and its third-leading scorer at 23.3 points a game:

“She deserves to be listed amongst the best in women’s basketball. Hannah is a fierce competitor and an elite performer who rises to the occasion and has been extremely consistent and dominant this season.”

What has to be scary to opponents is that Hidalgo only is getting started. She likely will hold many Irish records by the time she’s done with the program. Irish fans will be anxious to find out how many of those records she holds in the end.

LSU’s Angel Reese and Aneesah Morrow named to AP All-American teams

Angel Reese earned Second Team honors, while Aneesah Morrow was an honorable mention.

LSU women’s basketball stars [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and [autotag]Aneesah Morrow[/autotag] were honored as members of the postseason USBWA All-American teams on Tuesday, and now the Associated Press has followed suit.

Both Reese and Morrow appear among the AP All-American teams that were announced on Wednesday. Reese, who was a First-Teamer per the USBWA, is a Second-Teamer per the AP. Morrow, meanwhile, is also an honorable mention on the AP teams.

Reese built on a record-setting campaign last season, becoming the first player since Vanderbilt’s Wendy Scholtens in 1989-90 to lead the SEC in both scoring and rebounding in back-to-back seasons.

Morrow is a DePaul transfer who leads the team in steals and blocks while averaging double figures in scoring and rebounding, as well.

Reese, Morrow and the rest of the Tigers will return to the court on Friday as they host Rice at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers make ESPN’s All-American team

Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers make ESPN’s All-American team as the honors continue to pile up.

[autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] continue to pile up the honors this award season, this time making ESPN’s All-America team.

It comes as no surprise given the numbers these two put up. Daniels led the country in total yards and touchdowns.

Nabers’ 1,546 receiving yards led the country, over 100 more than Washington’s Rome Odunze in second place, despite playing one less game.

“Daniels was nothing short of spectacular in a record-setting campaign that saw him pass for 3,812 yards, rush for 1,134 and account for 50 touchdowns,” ESPN’s Chris Low rote.

On Nabers, ESPN highlighted his big play ability with 34 catches for 20+ yards and 17 for 30+ yards.

Nabers could add to those numbers if he elects to play in the ReliaQuest Bowl next month. Nabers was seen at LSU practice earlier this week and previously mentioned wanting to set the program receiving record, which he’s closing in on.

Daniels’ status for the ReliaQuest Bowl remains unclear. LSU will face Wisconsin on Jan. 1.

Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers named to yet another All-American team, this time by AFCA

The Tigers’ quarterback/receiver duo continues to be recognized for a stellar season.

If there’s a publication releasing a list of All-Americans, there’s a very good chance you’ll find both [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] among the First Team.

The pair added another set of First Team All-America accolades on Thursday as they’ve been recognized by the American Football Coaches Association. Nabers has now earned five First Team All-America honors, while Daniels has earned four.

Daniels won the Heisman Trophy, Davey O’Brien Award and was named the national Player of the Year by multiple outlets. Nabers, meanwhile, led the nation in receiving, was the runner-up for the Biletnikoff Award and currently sits just 17 yards shy of LSU’s career receiving yards record, which he will likely break if he participates in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin.

LSU has seen some star-studded quarterback-receiver duos over the years, but Daniels and Nabers will certainly go down as one of the best.

Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers named to yet another All-American team

Sporting News became the latest publication to honor Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers as First Team All-Americans.

The postseason honors continue to rack up for [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag].

Arguably the best quarterback-receiver duo in the nation, the pair are both expected to be first-round picks in the 2024 NFL draft, with some mocks even predicting that both will go in the top 10.

They’ve been named First Team All-Americans by practically every publication in the nation, and Sporting News joined the list, honoring both as First Teamers.

Daniels won the Heisman Trophy in 2023 while leading the nation in total yards and touchdowns as well as passing efficiency. Nabers was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award and led the nation in receiving yards with 1,546.

It remains unclear if we’ve seen the last of this duo at the college level. Nabers has already announced his intention to play in the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin, but we’re still awaiting a decision from Daniels.

Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers named FWAA First Team All-Americans

Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers led one of the most prolific offenses in recent college football memory this season.

The postseason accolades continue to stack up for LSU’s offensive stars, particularly Heisman winner [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and Biletnikoff runner-up [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag].

Both have been named First Team All-Americans by the Associated Press and now, they’ve been honored as First Teamers by the Football Writers Association of America.

Daniels had a spectacular season in which he paced the nation in most offensive stats including total offense and total touchdowns. Nabers, his favorite receiving target, led the nation in receiving yards and finished second in touchdowns behind only his LSU teammate [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag], who was not included in FWAA’s First Team or Second Team.

Daniels and Nabers are off to the NFL, where they are both projected as possible top 10 picks in the 2024 draft.

NEW: Trio of Tigers named to AP All-American teams

Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. were all represented on the AP All-American teams.

The Associated Press released its college football All-American teams on Monday, and three LSU Tigers ultimately made the cut.

Quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] and [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] were represented among the First Team. Daniels is the Heisman Trophy and Davey O’Brien Award winner after leading the nation in total yards per game and total touchdowns as well as quarterback rating.

Nabers, meanwhile, led the nation in receiving yards with 1,546 and also finished with 14 touchdowns. He was passed up for the Biletnikoff in favor of [autotag]Marvin Harrison Jr.[/autotag], however, despite having the more impressive season statistically.

[autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] was also represented as an All-American and was listed on the Third Team. Thomas’ production was limited while splitting targets with Nabers, but he still exceeded 1,000 yards and led the nation with 15 receiving touchdowns.

Jayden Daniels named to Senior Bowl All-American team

The awards continue to roll in for Jayden Daniels.

With the Heisman ceremony set to take place on Saturday night, the accolades continue to roll in for [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag].

Daniels was named to the Senior Bowl All-American team just a few weeks after Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy extended an invite to the star quarterback.

Daniels draft stock is rising, and at this point, a senior bowl trip might not be necessary. But Daniels has star power, so Nagy and the senior bowl are sure to pursue.

Daniels was joined by other stars including Michigan’s Blake Corum and Washington’s Rome Odunze. The other lone SEC player to receiver the honor was South Carolina’s Xavier Leggette.

Daniels led the country with 50 total touchdowns on the year and a 208 passer rating, which was the best in the sport by a wide margin. Daniels has spent the last day in New York as he prepares for the Heisman ceremony on Saturday night. He remains the betting favorite.

Malik Nabers named a Walter Camp First Team All-American

While Malik Nabers didn’t win the Biletnikoff, he didn’t come away completely empty-handed on Friday night.

Though he didn’t receive the Biletnikoff Award, which was instead given to Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] didn’t come home from the College Football Award Show completely empty-handed.

He was named a First Team All-Ameican by the Walter Camp Foundation during the show on Friday night. Nabers becomes the fifth LSU receiver to receive First Team honors from Walter Camp and the first since [autotag]Ja’Marr Chase[/autotag] in 2019.

Nabers is LSU’s all-time leader in receptions, and he led the nation in receiving in 2023 while playing a major role in one of the nation’s most prolific offenses for the Tigers.

Quarterback [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] was snubbed on the First Team in favor of Michael Penix Jr., but he was named to the Second Team. The All-Americans will be honored in New Haven, Connecticut, from March 15-16.
