Alex McPherson, nations top kicker, signs with Auburn

Auburn lands the best kicker in the country.

Auburn has landed their kicker of the future

The Carlson Era at Auburn may have come to a close but in Alex McPherson, Auburn has added a worthy successor.

McPherson is the nation’s top kicker in the 247Sports Composite ranking and a record holder in Alabama. He nailed a 61-yard field goal in Fort Payne’s 32-7 victory over North Jackson, setting the record for longest made field goal in Alabama high school history from snap and hold.

With the expected departure of Anders Carlson, McPerson will have a chance to become the starting kicker next season and will be a player to watch once he gets on campus this summer.

Overview of Auburn’s recruiting class ahead of early signing period

Here are some future Auburn Tigers.

With the early signing period rapidly approaching (Dec. 15), Auburn is kicking it’s recruiting into high gear. The Tigers are looking to add to a recruiting class that has several open spots and could use some more talent. Auburn is in the hunt for several elite recruits like 4-star wide receiver Darrius Clemons.

With Auburn looking to add to their class, here is a look at the players Auburn has committed to their 2022 recruiting class ahead of the early signing period.

Class Ranking: 33rd nationally, 12th in SEC

Total commits: 13

Auburn now has the 12th ranked recruiting class in the SEC according to 247Sports. There is still time to add to the class, but this is a position Auburn never wants to be in.

Average rating per commit: 88.20

Auburn’s average recruiting ranking of 88.20 is just under the 90.00 grade needed to be a 4-star recruit and is good enough for eighth in the SEC. That is lower than Auburn wants to be but is a more accurate picture of the class than their overall ranking in the SEC.

Auburn Recruiting: Holden Geriner powers Benedictine to playoff win

Several Auburn commits had big games.

Auburn’s recruiting has been a big talking point this week among fans that are critical of Bryan Harsin.

The Tigers’ 2022 class may not be anywhere close to full right now, but some of its members performed well in their school’s playoff run.

Quarterback Holden Geriner is leading Benedictine on a nice playoff run with his big performances.

He completed 11-of-14 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns in Benedictine’s 63-7 win over Leula.

He will become a big name to know over the next two offseasons.

WATCH: Alex McPherson makes record-breaking 61-yard field goal

This is insane.

Alex McPherson has broken his older brother’s record.

Evan Mcpherson, now the kicker for the Cincinnati Bengals, booted a 60-yard field goal in 2017 to set the AHSAA state record for a field goal that included a snap, hold and kick against pressure.

Alex, who is committed to Auburn, kicked 61-yarder in Fort Payne’s 32-7 win over North Jackson, to break the record and tie Auburn’s Sage Ledbetter for the longest field goal in Alabama high school history. Ledbetter’s kick was a free-kick back in 2015 against Smiths Station.

Alex has now made two of the six longest kicks in Alabama high school history.
