Tom Brady acknowledges his trainer’s comments about Bill Belichick never evolving

“Everyone has protective feelings and emotions as friends and family members.”

Clearly, there was a level of tension between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

The quarterback’s father and trainer chimed in on the frustration this week and the Seth Wickersham piece really began unveiling it to the public. Both legendary figures have decided to remain quiet on the subject over the years and they only throw subtle hints regarding that frustration.

As aforementioned, Brady’s trainer Alex Guerrero made a comment about Belichick never evolving over the course of two decades. While speaking with reporters, Brady gave his best reaction to the comments without being too direct.

“I have great respect and admiration for my time there,” Brady said, transcribed by NESN. “I had 20 great years there — I kinda spoke that the last 18 months. It was a great time in my life. But I’m really happy to be here. I think we’ve done some great things in a short period of time. I really love the teammates that I have that I’m playing with here. I love the coaches, the organization’s been amazing. Again, it’s just a lot of gratitude for me.

“Everyone has protective feelings and emotions as friends and family members, and that’s just part of being in sports. You have a lot of people who — because they’re not out there, they want to protect, and it’s a very caring, loving thing that a lot of people do. But from my standpoint, I had a great time. But really my focus has been on trying to be the best I can be for this team and trying to go out and be a winning quarterback, be a championship-level quarterback for this team and this organization because they certainly deserve it. I made a commitment to them and I want to live up to it.”

These comments are surfacing with the highly-anticipated matchup between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4. Brady, who won the Super Bowl last season, is rolling with a red-hot Buccaneers team. Belichick, who went 7-9 in 2020, has a revamped roster that’s growing together and collected a strong win over the New York Jets last week.

As the days roll on ahead of the matchup, so will the storylines.

Tom Brady shows love for his trainer Alex Guerrero on Instagram

Bucs QB Tom Brady took to Instagram to show his appreciation for his trainer Alex Guerrero.

Bucs QB Tom Brady will be 43 years old when the 2020 season kicks off, but at the rate he’s been playing the past few years, you’d be forgiven if you thought he was only 33.

Brady has seemingly defied Father Time, remaining fit both mentally and physically thanks to his rigorous training program and diet, courtesy of TB12 Sports. And, he can credit his trainer Alex Guerrero for helping him prolong his career like has has.

The conversation around when Tom Brady will retire is perpetual at this point. The 42-year-old shows no relative signs of age, seemingly getting better on the gridiron with age.

Brady’s personal trainer and business partner, Alex Guerrero, revealed what the conversation about potential retirement is like between the two men on a regular basis.

Speaking to WEEI Thursday, Guerrero said, “I certainly do believe that 45 is a very realistic goal. We talk about it all the time. Every year he just adds another year. He goes in and he’s like, ‘Guys, I feel so good still. I think I am going to go till 45.’ I am like, ‘OK.’ Now he’s like, ‘Alex, I think I can go like 46 or 47.’”

Guerrero explained that it all comes down to commitment and recalled how many skeptics there were about the Patriot playing at an elite level in his late 30s and early 40s.

New England’s perfect record is no longer intact, as the Ravens spoiled that before the Pats (8-1) entered their bye week during Week 10. Heading into Week 11, Brady has completed 230 of 355 pass attempts for 2,536 passing yards and 14 touchdowns this season.

Tom Brady’s body coach says QB feels he can play until he’s 47

Will Tom Brady play for the Patriots? Alex Guerrero’s tone was less certain.

Tom Brady’s body coach Alex Guerrero gave some insight into the New England Patriots quarterback’s thoughts on a potential retirement as he continues his 20th NFL season.

Apparently, Brady feels like he can play 25 seasons.

As Brady and Guerrero hone the TB12 Method — designed to elongate Brady’s muscles and, in turn, his career — the quarterback has grown hopeful his stint in the NFL can last even longer than even he expected. Previously, Brady has said he intends to at least play until he’s 45 years old. He’s currently 42. But Brady is beginning to feel like he can make it to 46 or 47, Guerrero told WEEI sports radio during an appearance on Thursday.

The interview did come with a less hopeful look at Brady’s future in New England, however. The Patriots quarterback is playing on an expiring contract, which will make him a free agent in the upcoming offseason. Even though Brady is saying he might not stop playing until he’s 47, Guerrero provided no certainty about the quarterback’s status with New England. Guerrero was asked if Brady will be at Patriots training camp in 2020.

“I don’t know. It’s not July 2020,” Guerrero told WEEI. “I am focused on today.”

Spoken like Bill Belichick.

Brady has also acknowledged the uncertainty with his contract. He has never played on the final year of his deal. This is unprecedented for him. Add in that Brady and Guerrero are trying to sell their homes. It’s an apparently tenuous situation.

“If you spend all your time and energy on those things, you lose track of what is really most important, which is happening right now,” Brady told WEEI on “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday. “This is where I want to be. This is the team I want to be apart of and leading. I am really excited about doing that. There really isn’t more to read into than that.”
