PHOTOS: Highlights from Florida basketball’s win vs Ohio Bobcats

Take a look at some of the best photos from Wednesday night’s romp over the Bobcats.

Florida basketball bounced back from an ugly loss the previous week with an authoritative win over the Ohio Bobcats inside Amalie Arena on Wednesday night. The Gators had control from the get-go and never took their foot off the pedal en route to an 82-48 neutral-court victory in Tampa.

[autotag]Kowacie Reeves[/autotag] led the attack dropping 20 points on 7-for-11 shooting overall and 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Three other Gators scored in double digits as [autotag]Kyle Lofton[/autotag], [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] and [autotag]Trey Bonham[/autotag] joined the scoring parade with 15, 13 and 12, respectively.

Florida still unranked in USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll after 20-point loss to UConn

Florida’s up-and-down start to the season hasn’t earned it any support in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

Florida only had one game this week and it ended in a 20-point loss to the Connecticut Huskies. That didn’t do the Gators any favors on Monday when the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll was updated.

Losing to No. 3 UConn isn’t the worst loss in the world for Florida, but it is the latest failed test for a club still searching for its identity under first-year head coach [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag]. It will take a strong performance against the conference for Florida to muster up any support in the Coaches Poll over the coming weeks.

UF has just one game scheduled for the coming week, a Wednesday night matchup with the Ohio Bobcats. Florida should have a chance to get back in the win column in that one and then comes Oklahoma, the final game of the non-conference slate.

Florida needs all the kinks to be worked out by the end of the second half against the Sooner, and hopefully, [autotag]Kyle Lofton[/autotag] will be back in the starting lineup by then. Golden is still trying to find the right mix of minutes for what appears to be a talented roster.

[autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] has emerged as a potential starter at the four over [autotag]CJ Felder[/autotag], and [autotag]Kowacie Reeves[/autotag] is back on the court after Golden flubbed the rotations and left him on the bench for most of a three-game stretch.

Here’s a full look at the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll for men’s basketball.

PHOTOS: Highlights from Florida’s home loss to No. 5 UConn Huskies

Florida basketball took the 75-54 loss in a late-night tangle in the O’Connell Center on Wednesday against UConn Huskies who arrived in Gainesville with a perfect 9-0 record along with a No. 5 ranking. The game went pretty much as expected as the visitors overmatched the home team to win its tenth game of the season.

The loss sent Todd Golden’s team packing with a 6-4 record overall — a rough mark before Southeastern Conference play even begins. Three Gators scored in double digits, with [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] and [autotag]Riley Kugel[/autotag] dropping 13 apiece while [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag] added a dozen of his own; the big man also paced the Orange and Blue with eight boards.

Take a look below at a handful of highlights from Florida’s double-digit loss at the hands of the UConn Huskies on Wednesday night.

PHOTOS: Highlights from Florida basketball’s big win over Stetson Hatters

Here are highlights from Florida’s second-straight victory on the college parquet.

Florida basketball made scored its second consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon in the O’Connell Center against the visiting Stetson Hatters, 89-51, to push the Gators’ record to 6-3 early on in the 2022-23 season.

[autotag]Will Richard[/autotag] led all scorers with 14 points while four others also finished with double digits. [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] led all players on the glass with eight rebounds and [autotag]Myreon Jones[/autotag]’ five assists were also a game-high. Florida shot 61.3% from the field overall including a 53.8% effort from beyond the arc while sinking 78.6% of its free throws.

Take a look below at some of the best photos from Florida’s romp over its in-state foes, the Stetson Hatters, in Gainesville on Sunday.

PHOTOS: Highlights from Florida basketball’s win vs FAMU

Here are highlights from Wednesday night’s big win for the Gators’ men’s basketball team.

Florida basketball bounced back from a rough trip out west in the Phil Knight Legacy tournament — having gone 1-2 including a blowout loss at the hands of the West Virginia Mountaineers in the final game – with a blowout win of its own over the visiting Florida A&M Rattlers in the O’Connell Center on Wednesday night.

[autotag]Trey Bonham[/autotag] led the way with 23 points as one of six Gators to score in double digits en route to the 102-62 victory. [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] added 10 rebounds to 16 points to mark the only double-double notched during the game.

Take a look below at highlights from Florida’s fifth win of the 2022-23 season, coming against its in-state opponent, the FAMU Rattlers.

Kowacie Reeves returns to Florida lineup, Gators cruise past FAMU

You know it’s a good game when Alex Klatsky and Jack May get to play. Florida routed Florida A&M, 102-62, Wednesday night.

Florida needed to make a statement after falling to West Virginia by 29 points in the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament, and the Gators answered with a 40-point rout of the Florida A&M Rattlers that ended 102-62.

The Gators came out of the gate hot and never really looked back against a lesser opponent. The big story coming into the game was how many minutes [autotag]Kowacie Reeves[/autotag] would get after playing minimal time in Portland. Injuries to Florida’s starting guards, [autotag]Kyle Lofton[/autotag] and [autotag]Will Richard[/autotag], forced Reeves back in the starting lineup, and the sophomore shined… at least in the first half.

[autotag]Trey Bonham[/autotag], who started at point guard, was lights out from three-point range, setting a school record on 7-of-7 shooting from deep, and he led all scorers with 23 points. [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag] wasn’t the dominant big man he was earlier in the season, but [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] made up for it off the bench with a double-double.

Even [autotag]Jack May[/autotag] and [autotag]Alex Klatsky[/autotag] got some playing time against FAMU, which is the hallmark of a blowout Gators win. Florida needed this one badly, but it won’t mean much in the long run.

Stetson is up next on Sunday, and then it’s time for another test as Connecticut comes to town on Wednesday.

PHOTOS: Florida basketball’s season opening win over Stony Brook

Take a look at a few prime shots from Monday night’s action.

Florida basketball opened up the [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag] era in Gainesville with a blowout win over the Stony Brook Seawolves, 81-45. In a game that was clearly a mismatch on paper, the Gators took advantage of their talent gradient and ran all over their America East Conference opponents.

Recent transfer [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag] led the way on the scoreboard in his first game wearing the Orange and Blue, notching 16 points along with three rebounds. Another recent addition in [autotag]Will Richard[/autotag] added 14 points and three boards while veteran [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag] posted 13 points to round out the Gators in double digits.

Out of 15 players to earn minutes in this game, 13 managed to put points on the board, including [autotag]Alex Klatsky[/autotag] who drained his lone three-point attempt. Take a look below at some highlights from Monday night’s season-opening affair.

Florida basketball takes down Stony Brook to kick off Golden era

The Golden era of Florida basketball started off with a bang as the Gators blew out Stony Brook, 81-45, Monday night.

Florida basketball started off the (Todd) Golden era with an 81-45 win over the Stony Brook Seawolves Monday night at the O’Connell Center.

Florida started off hot scoring 12 unanswered points and holding Stony Brook scoreless through the first six minutes of the game. After that, it was all Gators, and Florida was able to test out all of its depth pieces late in the game.

[autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag], the transfer forward from LSU, led all scorers with 16 points off the bench and looks like a potential starter down the stretch. [autotag]Colin Castleton[/autotag], the team’s star center, led Florida with 20 minutes on the court, but there was no need to play him for the final 10 minutes of the game. UF’s new-look backcourt of [autotag]Kyle Lofton[/autotag] and [autotag]Will Richard[/autotag] also shined, but more on that below.

Overall, it was a fun start to the new era of Florida hoops under Todd Golden, but Stony Brook was far from a tough opponent. Florida’s non-conference schedule starts off easy, but things could get competitive in a hurry. With Florida State coming up on Nov. 18 and the Phil Knight Legacy Tournament a week later, Golden’s team will get tested early.

Here are five major takeaways from the Gators’ season opener.

Gators get an early offer in on this rising 2024 power forward

Gators MBK offers this local lengthy basketball 2024 recruit a scholarship.

Local power forward prospect Sammie Yeaney added the Gators to his offer sheet when the team made their interest in him official with an offer on Thursday. If this bit of news slipped below your radar, don’t worry too much. Yeaney is presently unranked by the 247Sports national board, it’s very early in the 2024 recruiting cycle, and I have yet to spell his name correctly on the first try.

This isn’t the first time Yeaney has popped up in Gators news. He took an unofficial visit on campus in late June, hosted by associate head coach Carlin Hartman and incoming transfer [autotag]Alex Fudge[/autotag]. He’s familiar with the Gainesville area already, being an attendee of The Rock School, just a 20-minute drive from the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

Nonetheless, it’s still important for the player and staff to get a feel for each other in person and show off athletic facilities. Evidently, it went well, with the offer coming just two weeks later.

Yeaney’s length is the first thing that stands out about him. He’s listed as having a 6-foot-7.5-inch frame, and as you can see in his recruiting pictures above, he’s not just a rail. That physicality has earned him some notice, and Prep Hoops recently ranked him as the second-best player in the state.

With the Gators’ offer in hand, he can boast a pretty good offer list for such an early phase in the 2024 cycle. In addition to Florida, he also has offers from ‘Bama and Texas Tech, which are impressive offers to pull down for a non-five-star prospect who is over two years away from playing his first college game.

Keep an eye on Yeaney. He’s not a star yet, but he’s local and on the rise. Those are the ingredients for a future fan favorite if he winds up wearing Orange and Blue.

The Athletic breaks down three incoming transfers for Florida basketball

A look at three new Gators basketball transfers through the lens of The Athletic.

Florida basketball saw some significant turnover on its roster after the departure of former head coach [autotag]Mike White[/autotag], leaving new skipper [autotag]Todd Golden[/autotag] with a skeleton of a team to start his UF tenure. While the team got some great news when center [autotag]Colin Castelton[/autotag] pulled his name from the NBA draft and returned to Gainesville, the more important work has been done through the transfer portal.

The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie and CJ Moore recently undertook the task of composing a complete overview of the players who have passed through the portal so far, including new additions Kyle Lofton, Will Richard and Alex Fudge. The trio are expected to help the Gators bounce back from a disappointing season in 2021-22, but there is a lot of work to be done.

Below is a look at the three incoming transfers that The Athletic included in its survey of who moved through the portal this offseason, ordered by ranking while breaking down their scouting report as well as why they fit at Florida.
