Recruitment

Lorenzetti isn’t the most highly-rated recruit, but that can be understood through multiple factors: he’s originally from Canada, he plays in a generally under-scouted region, and in the COVID year, many players didn’t get proper evaluations. However, Lorenzetti had a couple schools coming after him hard, especially after the camp circuit. Michigan’s main competition was Michigan State, but he also held offers from Georgia and Penn State. He ended his recruitment on June 25 when he pledged to Michigan.

Readiness Level

Already has good size, but likely won’t see the field until year two at the earliest.

2022 3-star OT picks Michigan over MSU and Penn State

#Michigan reeled in its second commit of the day, this time playing keep away from the Spartans and Nittany Lions! #GoBlue

You see it all the time, a player who isn’t quite highly rated, but has some big-time offers and ends up being more productive than the brand names in recruiting.

While his destiny has yet to be set, that very well could be the case for Michigan football’s latest pledge.

Just days ago, 2022 Windsor (CT) Loomis Chaffee three-star offensive tackle named a top 3 which included Michigan, rival Michigan State and fellow Big Ten power Penn State. Lorenzetti had been thought of as an MSU lean, but in recent days, he started to pick up 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions indicating he’d become a Wolverine.

And on Friday night, that’s what he did, as he committed to Michigan.

From our earlier write-up on Lorenzetti:

There are a few reasons as to why Lorenzetti hasn’t been evaluated compared to some of the other prominent linemen in the class. No. 1, he’s originally from Montreal, Quebec in Canada but secondly, he’s also playing high school football now in oft-underscouted New England.

Lorenzetti is 6-foot-6, 285-pounds and has eight 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions all indicating that he’ll eventually be a Wolverine. He made his official visit to Ann Arbor June 18-20 in the big visitors weekend.

With Lorenzetti in the fold, he is Michigan’s second commitment on Friday and 12th commit overall in 2022.

Sometimes if a recruit is just a low-level three-star, the best practice is to see what kinds of offers they have.

And in the case of 2022 Windsor (CT) Loomis Chaffee School three-star offensive tackle Alessandro Lorenzetti, the offers tell the whole story as to his talent.

Though he’s rated the No. 93 offensive tackle in 2022 and the second-best player in the state of Connecticut, Lorenzetti has offers from Georgia, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Michigan State and, yes, Michigan. He released his top three schools on Wednesday and the Wolverines — along with the Spartans and Nittany Lions — made the cut for the rising offensive tackle.

Michigan State is extending their recruiting efforts internationally with their latest offer going to an offensive tackle prospect from Montreal.

Alessandro Lorenzetti of Montreal, Quebec announced on Tuesday that he has received a scholarship offer from the Spartans. Offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic extended the offer, according to Lorenzetti’s tweet.

Lorenzetti is unranked by 247Sports but that could in large part be due to the fact that he plays north of border and doesn’t get the same attention as other recruits. Lorenzetti is listed at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, and is a member of the 2022 class.

With the offer from the Spartans, Lorenzetti now has received scholarship offers from eight schools. Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Eastern Michigan, FIU, UMass and Toledo have also issued a scholarship offer to Lorenzetti.
