Albert Tumenov will seek to continue hot post-UFC run at ACA 181 in November

UFC veteran Albert Tumenov is set to return at ACA 181 in November for the welterweight grand prix final.

UFC veteran [autotag]Albert Tumenov[/autotag] is set for his first fight of 2024.

On November 2 at ACA 181 in Saint Petersburg, Russia, ACA welterweight champion Tumenov (23-5) returns to action to face former champ Abubakar Vagaev in the finals of the ACA welterweight grand prix. The fight will be five rounds with Tumenov’s title on the line. The promotion officially announced the fight on social media Thursday.

Since exiting the UFC in 2016, Tumenov hasn’t lost in combat sports. His eight-fight UFC run ended after back-to-back submission losses to Gunner Nelson and Leon Edwards, but he has since won nine straight fights: eight in MMA and one custom rules bout.

Tumenov’s last outing was at ACA 168 in December, where he stopped Ustarmagomed Gadzhidaudov in Round 5 to win the ACA welterweight title. His first fight of 2024 will come against a former champ who has won two straight.

Vagaev (23-4) will enter on the heels of back-to-back unanimous decision wins over UFC veteran Michel Prazeres and Edil Esenguglov. The 31-year-old Russian is 7-1 under the ACA banner, and once held the ACA welterweight title in 2022.

20 former UFC fighters who could return to the promotion in 2024

Who of these former UFC fighters could get a second chance with the promotion in 2024?

It’s hard to make it to the UFC.

Thousands of professional fighters try every year – and most fail. For a small percentage, however, they sign their names on the dotted line to fight for the biggest MMA promotion in the world.

Sometimes the opportunity comes a bit too soon. Other times, they’re faced with difficult matchups that time proves were bigger challenges than originally anticipated.

When the pink slip comes and a fighter departs the promotion, there is often a phrase they hear on the way out: “Go get a few more wins, and the UFC will consider bringing you back.”

Easier said than done.

For the vast majority, they won’t be back. However, it’s not impossible. A number of fighters have done it over the years. Just look at former UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno. He was released from the promotion, built his way back, became a contender, and then won a UFC title.

Current roster members Nicolas Dalby, Dustin Jacoby, Modestas Bukauskas, Kurt Holobaugh, Roosevelt Roberts, and Rhys McKee are among those who have reinforced the possibility.

With the new year upon us, here are 20 former UFC fighters who could return to the promotion in 2024.

Note: Fighters considered for this list had to have competed in at least one UFC bout.

Video: Albert Tumenov stays unbeaten in post-UFC run, folds opponent to reclaim ACA title

Albert Tumenov improved to 8-0 since his final UFC appearance after claiming the ACA title with a brutal knockout win.

[autotag]Albert Tumenov[/autotag] still carries tremendous power in his hands, even late in fights, and showed it again at ACA 168.

Tumenov (24-4) vacated the ACA welterweight title in December 2019 to explore other opportunities in the combat sports space. He’s fought a few times for the promotion in recent years, but this past weekend came back to reclaim the belt that was once his.

“Einstein” delivered an electric knockout of Ustarmagomed Gadzhidaudov (17-6) in the fifth round of their headlining bout at CSKA Arena in Moscow, to begin his second reign as 170-pound champion.

Both men had some moments throughout the contest, but Tumenov had the better conditioning late. That allowed him to stun Gadzhidaudov with a hard punch that put him to a knee, before unloading with one more gigantic shot that folded his foe backward and slumped him into the canvas at the 4:53 mark of Round 5.

Tumenov, 32, is now 8-0 since his final UFC appearance in October 2016, which was a third-round submission loss to now-UFC champion Leon Edwards.

Triller Triad Combat medical suspensions: One fighter out indefinitely

All fighters competing on the card were suspended by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, though many won’t have to wait long.

Triller debuted Triad Combat this past Saturday, and a handful of notable boxing and MMA fighters squared off under a hybrid ruleset.

Among those who competed were former boxing champion [autotag]Kubrat Pulev[/autotag], former UFC champion [autotag]Frank Mir[/autotag], former UFC welterweight [autotag]Mike Perry[/autotag], former UFC welterweight [autotag]Albert Tumenov[/autotag], former Bellator featherweight [autotag]Derek Campos[/autotag], and former Bellator and UFC heavyweight contender [autotag]Matt Mitrione[/autotag], among others.

Following the completion of their respective bouts, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), which regulated the event at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, handed out medical suspensions to all 14 competitors. Unlike some other commissioning bodies, the TDLR does not reveal the specific injuries or reasons the fighters have been suspended.

While the majority of the card were given suspensions under one month, undercard fighter [autotag]Angelina Hoffschneider[/autotag] is facing an indefinite layoff after a first-round knockout loss to Alexa Culp.

Outside of the indefinite suspension, Mir, who lost via standing TKO to Pulev at 1:59 into Round 1, was handed a 30-day sanction.

‘Rampage’ Jackson believes Triller Triad Combat is here to stay: ‘UFC and Bellator should be worried’

Should UFC and Bellator be worried about Triller Triad Combat? Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson believes so.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS – According to [autotag]Quinton Jackson[/autotag], Triad Combat is here for the long haul.

Boxing and MMA fighters tested their skills against each other in Triller’s triangle-shaped ring on Saturday evening and former UFC light heavyweight champion, ‘Rampage,’ thinks the promotion is on to something big.

The first event featuring the triangle ring took place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, seeing a total of seven fights with a healthy dose of legendary heavy metal band Metallica throughout the evening. ‘Rampage’ served as the team captain for the MMA fighters opposite Shannon Briggs who represented the boxers.

“It’s something new, I think it’s here to stay,” Jackson told MMA Junkie after the event concluded. “I think the UFC is gonna be worried about this. I don’t know what Dana White’s response is gonna be.”

UFC president White was invited to attend the event by Triller’s co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh so he could “see a proper production in action,” but did not make the trip to Texas to take up the offer.

MMA fighters represented their side very well by winning four of the seven bouts over the boxers, earning the team championship belt for winning the point total between the two combat sports disciplines. UFC veterans [autotag]Albert Tumenov[/autotag] and [autotag]Mike Perry[/autotag] were among the winners at the event representing MMA, proving that their skills can translate into a ruleset that favors the boxers.

In addition to performing inside the ring, Triller boasted the fighters earned well above what they would have been paid underneath other promotions’ banners for their services. Some of the fighters confirmed this during fight week, although specific payouts were not revealed.

Ultimately, ‘Rampage’ was impressed with the group of MMA fighters he led into battle on Saturday and is a fan of the entire experience that Triller provides – and with that, other major promotions should take notice of what they’re doing.

“I think UFC and Bellator should be worried right now, honestly,” Jackson stated.
