Alabama’s areas of concern for Rose Bowl CFP against Michigan

There are a few things Alabama must be prepared for before taking on Michigan in the College Football Playoff Rose Bowl semifinal.

The Crimson Tide arrived in Pasadena, California on Tuesday evening. Alabama began its preparation for the College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Michigan shortly after.

The Wolverines come in with an unblemished record at 13-0. The Crimson Tide roll in with a 12-1 record. Both teams deserve to be in the position that they are currently in, though many in Tallahassee may not agree

Michigan ran the table and made things look easy more times than not. Alabama had its share of struggles early on in the season but found its footing toward the midway point of the season.

The Wolverines are clicking on all cylinders at the right time. This means Alabama will have to bring their A-game to defeat the Big Ten champions.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down the areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s College Football Playoff semifinal matchup against Michigan.

5. 9-yard TD leap vs. Michigan

There was a six-yard touchdown leap against Auburn that almost made the No. 5 spot on this list. But considering this play was the one to give Alabama a 14-13 lead over Michigan, it had to be included.

Alabama is currently preparing for the upcoming game against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl down in Orlando (Fla.), which is set to take place on New Year’s Day.

With the excitement surrounding the early signing period on Wednesday, there hasn’t been much room for news outside of those developments. But Brett Hudson, beat writer for TideSports.com, did reveal something interesting on Thursday.

Alabama defensive lineman LaBryan Ray, who has been dealing with foot injury since the South Carolina game in Week 3, was spotted by Hudson out on the practice on Thursday in a black, non-contact jersey:

This is excellent news for the Crimson Tide defense, which has struggled with consistency and injuries all season. Ray was considered one of the team’s top breakout candidates, and his added presence could be a major boost to the interior pass rush.

Now, it should be noted that we do not yet know what his status is going into the Citrus Bowl, so it’s possible that he still may not be fully back in time to play. But this is a surprising — and pleasant — development nonetheless.

Stay tuned for more updates on Ray and everything else Alabama related from Roll Tide Wire, brought to you by USA TODAY Sports!

Alabama officially knows its destiny for the 2019 post season. According to college football insider Brett McMurphy, the Crimson Tide will take on John Harbaugh and Michigan in the Citrus Bowl.

McMurphy made the announcement via Twitter on Sunday during the College Football Playoff Selection Show on ESPN:

It was a little surprising to see Alabama slide yet another spot to No. 13 in the College Football Playoff rankings, but it will give the Crimson Tide a chance to go head-to-head against a respectable Michigan team with former Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson.

The game will take place on New Years Day at 12:00 a.m. CT on ABC in Orlando, Florida.
