Where Alabama ranks in ESPN’s Football Power Index after Week 10

Alabama has a surprising ranking in ESPN’s FPI even after suffering its second loss of the season. Here is a complete breakdown.

[autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] and the Alabama Crimson Tide suffered another road loss this past weekend against LSU and will look to get back in the win column this weekend against Ole Miss.

After the loss, there was some movement in where the Crimson Tide stands in the latest update of ESPN’s Football Power Index.

According to ESPN, the FPI is a “measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 20,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily. FPI data from seasons prior to 2019 may not be complete”.

Here is a complete breakdown of where the Alabama Crimson Tide stands after the completion of Week 10.

Where Alabama sits in ESPN’s efficiency rankings

Let’s take a look at Alabama’s efficiency rankings according to ESPN.

No. 4 Alabama is coming off a big road win this past Saturday against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and you could make the argument it was the Tide’s most efficient performance of the season.

Speaking of efficiency, each week ESPN updates its College Football Power Index and a piece of that puzzle is team efficiency rankings. So I thought we could take a few moments to dive into where Alabama ranks in efficiency according to ESPN.

Offensively, Alabama ranks third in the nation just behind Ohio State and Coastal Carolina with a 92.1 efficiency rating.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Tide sits with an 80.5 rating which ranks sixth in the country.

The special teams unit has also performed well this season for Alabama as it ranks seventh with an 82.3 rating.

Alabama sits just behind Georgia in the overall efficiency rankings with a 94.6 rating.

If Alabama can continue the effort they displayed against Mississippi State this past weekend, they should see a rise in their rankings across the board.
