How former Alabama players in the NFL performed in week two of preseason

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at some of Alabama’s former players who performed in Week 2 of NFL preseason.

The NFL preseason is a time for young players to make a name for themselves. Last week, players like Josh Jobe, Mack Wilson, and Jalen Hurts all played well in their allotted playing time. This week appeared to be no different than last. Several former players reached the end zone while several other players shined on the defensive side of the ball.

Alabama has produced some of the league’s best talent. Fans will likely see more of the superstar-like players during week one of the regular season. Most front offices and coaching staff don’t want the risk of having franchise players hurt in a meaningless game.

However, several notable alumni saw the field this past weekend. Tua Tagovailoa, OJ Howard, and Cam Sims all played well in week two of the preseason. Each saw their first meaningful snaps of the preseason come this past weekend.

Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at several former Alabama players and how they faired in week two of the NFL preseason.

Several former Alabama players attended big-time AL high school football game on Friday

Several former Alabama players returned to their hometown to watch a big-time high school matchup between Daphne and Saraland.

On Friday, several former Alabama players: Wallace Gilberry, Ryan Anderson, and T.J. Yeldon made their way to the Mobile area to watch the Daphne Trojans take on the Saraland Spartans. Simone Eli of WKRG reported on the Crimson Tide stars’ presence. The Spartans wound up winning the game by a score of 43-23.

Both Yeldon and Anderson played for Daphne High School. On the other hand, Gilberry played for Baldwin County High School in Bay Minette, Alabama. All three are well-known for their play at both the high school and college levels.

Gilberry played for the Crimson Tide from 2004 through 2007. He recorded 188 tackles and 21.5 sacks in his time in Tuscaloosa. He was named to the All-SEC Coaches’ First-Team in 2007. He went to the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Gilberry would then spend nine seasons in the NFL playing for five teams: Bengals, Lions, Buccaneers, Chiefs, and Giants.

Anderson was a dominant outside linebacker for the Crimson Tide from 2013-2016. The last two seasons that Anderson spent at Alabama were perhaps his best. He played in 31 games for the Crimson Tide and recorded 98 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks. After his senior season concluded, he was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft. He spent four seasons with the team before spending this past season with the New York Giants. Anderson is currently a free agent.

Many Alabama fans will remember Yeldon for his late-game touchdown in 2012 that helped Alabama defeat the LSU Tigers. He was known for that particular play but was also a very good running back, to say the least. He played for Alabama from 2012-2014. He rushed for over 3,000 yards in that time while having 37 rushing touchdowns. Yeldon was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft.

He went on to spend four seasons with the Jaguars before spending two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. Yeldon hasn’t played since 2020. He is also a free agent.

It is always interesting to see former Alabama players returning to their former high schools and communities.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow former Alabama football players as well as other former Alabama football players in the NFL.

How former Alabama players in the NFL performed in week one of preseason

Roll Tide Wire takes a look at how former Alabama players faired in week one of NFL preseason.

Some of Alabama’s finest players from the past have made a seamlessly easy path from college football to the pros. On the other hand, some of the former players are battling for spots on the team’s practice squads or for starting roles on different teams across the league. Although the Raiders and Jaguars kicked off things last week in the Hall of Fame game in Canton, this past weekend was the first time that all 32 teams hit the field in preseason action.

Several of Alabama’s players from last season are nursing injuries or other health problems. Players like Jameson Williams and Christopher Allen Jr. have both been sidelined throughout training camp with previous injuries that occurred in their time at Alabama. Therefore, neither of them will see any action in the preseason for their respective teams.

It isn’t common for star players for organizations to play during the preseason, but several of Alabama’s did. Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at how several of the former Alabama players performed in week one of the preseason.

The best reactions to Justin Thomas bringing home the 2022 PGA Championship

Justin Thomas’ incredible 2022 PGA Championship comeback brought out some fantastic Twitter reactions.

The roars of “JT” could be heard from the grandstands on the 18th green of Southern Hills Country Club as fans witnessed one of the most incredible comebacks in PGA history when Alabama’s [autotag]Justin Thomas[/autotag] won the 2022 PGA Championship. Thomas would defeat Will Zalatoris in a three-hole playoff to capture the championship.

Thomas entered the final round seven shots back of the lead but would finish six under par in his final 13 holes on Sunday to take home his second career major championship. The 29-year-old Thomas won his first career major back in 2017 when he also took home the Wanamaker Trophy.

Thomas has quickly become one of the most popular golfers in the world and it didn’t take Twitter long to deliver some incredible reactions to the former Crimson Tide star hoisting the Wanamaker with triumphant tears.

Let’s take a look at some of the best that Twitter had to offer.

Former Alabama golfer Justin Thomas wins 2022 PGA Championship

Justin Thomas climbs back to claim his 15th PGA Tour victory

Going into the final day of the 2022 PGA Championship, former Alabama golfer [autotag]Justin Thomas[/autotag] had a 1.2% chance of winning, according to ESPN. Apparently nobody told Thomas that as he shot a 67, three under par, on Sunday to force the playoff against Wake Forest alum Will Zalatoris.

After finishing the second playoff hole with a birdie, Thomas had a one stroke lead and just had to fend off Zalatoris on the third and final playoff hole. Which he successfully completed resulting in an eight-stroke comeback.

The victory marks Thomas’s 15th of his professional career, and his 2nd PGA Championship after he won the first one in 2017. Thomas has been ranked at No. 1 in the world at various points in his career and has a Players Championship to his name (2021).

He is quickly becoming one of Alabama’s most notable alumni, and at the ripe age of 29 we are still seeing his ascension in the sport.
