AJ Newberry’s senior season at Texas’ South Grand Prairie High School has been excellent, at least on a personal level. In five games thus far with the 2-5 Warriors, he has averaged 162 rushing yards and is nearly at the 1,000-yard mark.
One of his better games this season came last Friday when the 6-foot, 200-pound Buffs commit ran for 187 yards and three touchdowns. Colorado running backs coach Darian Hagan, who recruited Newberry, was also in attendance.
Newberry, the No. 60-ranked running back in his class (247Sports), is so far the only 2023 RB commit the Buffs hold. Current true freshmen Anthony Hankerson and Victor Venn are also promising tailbacks in the program, so we’ll see if Colorado decides to add more depth moving forward.
