Watch: former UGA WR A.J. Green makes acrobatic TD catch

Former UGA wide receiver A.J. Green scored an acrobatic touchdown reception in the Arizona Cardinals’ win over the Rams.

The Arizona Cardinals got a much needed win over the Los Angeles Rams. Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver A.J. Green scored his first touchdown of the 2022 NFL season in acrobatic fashion in Arizona’s win.

Let’s take a look at Green’s incredible touchdown pass:

Green displays excellent body control in this touchdown reception. The Arizona Cardinals’ receiver has 12 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown this season.

Green’s touchdown helped Arizona move to 4-6. The Cardinals are two games behind the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West.

One of the nation’s best running offenses was destroyed early

Arkansas’ vaunted rushing game finished with three yards in the first quarter.

Arkansas entered Saturday’s homecoming game against Liberty with the sixth-best rushing attack in FBS. But until the last play of the first quarter, the Razorbacks had negative-16 yards rushing.

An AJ Green burst as time expired in the frame brought the total to three. Three total rushing yards against an Independent team with bowl-eligibility on the line.

Arkansas looked out of sorts across the board offensively in the opening 15 minutes. Those three yards came on nine carries. KJ Jefferson was 4 of 7 passing for 57 yards, but 36 of those came on one play. The Hogs had two first downs, were 0 for 3 on third down and punted on each of their first four drives.

The Razorbacks defense was better, but Liberty scored first, capping a five-play, 59-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown reception by Noah Frith with 17 seconds left in the quarter.

All three Razorbacks Wire staffers picked the Hogs to win the game.

Uh-oh, Bama: Twitter reacts to Arkansas’ score, onside kick

Twitter was ablaze after Arkansas scored first in the second half and recovered an onside kick against Alabama.

Arkansas’ offense finally came alive.

And combined with a defense that doesn’t have to face the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, the Razorbacks’ chances against second-ranked Alabama aren’t through yet.

AJ Green ran for a 11-yard touchdown with 7:47 left in the third quarter to trim Alabama’s lead to 14, 28-14. It was the second straight score by the Hogs, who trailed 28-0 in the second quarter.

Alabama remained without quarterback Bryce Young who left early in the second quarter with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Redshirt freshman Jalen Milroe took his place. Milroe led the Crimson Tide to two of the four touchdowns, but Alabama had to punt on its first drive of the second half.

Arkansas kicked onside following Green’s touchdown and recovered

A.J. Green unlikely to play Sunday for Cardinals vs. Panthers

Cardinals WR A.J. Green is expected to miss Sunday’s game with the Panthers with a bone bruise injury suffered in Week 3’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

It has not been the season A.J. Green or the Arizona Cardinals had hoped for when he re-signed a one-year deal with the team following an 800-plus yard season.

In three games played, Green has five receptions for 29 yards. Now, he’s dealing with a bone bruise that is expected to keep him out of Week 4’s crucial matchup with the Carolina Panthers.

When asked about Green’s availability, Kliff Kingsbury had the following to say:

“It looks doubtful unless he really, really comes around he’s probably not going to be available.”

The Cardinals have a size issue at the receiver position, assuming Green does miss Sunday’s contest. The team currently does not have a receiver over 5-9 on the active roster.

More than that, however, is the lack of depth at the receiver position, as the team continues to be without DeAndre Hopkins. Second-year Rondale Moore, however, is progressing the right way, as he was limited in practice Wednesday.

There is currently no time set on Green’s return from injury.

WATCH: Welcome to College Football! Rashod Dubinion’s first TD is one to remember

Arkansas might boast the best running back corps in the country. For real.

Rashod Dubinion is next.

Arkansas, with perhaps the deepest stable of running backs in FBS (yes, really) has some room to give its highly-touted freshman a go.

Rashod Dubinion, a true freshman from Georgia, went in from one yard midway through the second quarter of Arkansas’ SEC opener against South Carolina, giving the Hogs a 21-3 lead with 8:13 left in the frame.

Arkansas’ running game to that point had 114 yards on 25 carries as the Razorbacks scored on their third straight drive to start the game. Each drive went for more than 10 plays.

Rocket Sanders, the sophomore starter, put the first two in the end zone. He was given a breather by No. 2 AJ Green for a bulk of the drive and Green gave way to Dubinion at the end.

Six players to watch in Arkansas first SEC matchup of the season

Six for South Carolina and six for the Hogs. These will be the difference makers.

Razorback Stadium gets its first SEC matchup of the season with Arkansas hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday.

Both teams won their season openers, the Hogs taking on a much more challenging opponent in Cincinnati, who was ranked in last Saturday’s duel. The Razorbacks had to go through a physical battle with the Bearcats.

Arkansas suffered two big losses in the secondary, Jalen Catalou and Myles Slusher unable to finish the game. Both players are listed as questionable.

Losing an All-American safety doesn’t help the Hogs, especially after the secondary struggled in the second half against the Bearcats. Gamecocks’ quarterback Spencer Rattler poses a tougher challenge than Ben Bryant, who threw two touchdowns in the second half.

The Hogs have a 73% chance of winning, according to FPI. South Carolina is currently on a three-game winning streak against the Hogs, the last matchup coming in 2017. Head coach Shane Beamer will rely heavily on his “Beamer Ball” special teams to keep the streak alive.

The return of DJ? Hogs ground game could get even better against South Carolina

Dominque Johnson could be back against South Carolina and his return would be major for Arkansas.

Arkansas’ dynamite running game from last season looked the part in 2022, already, too. It could improve even more.

Rocket Sanders, who ran for 578 yards last year as a freshman, is the third leading rusher in yards-per-game a week into the season. His back-up AJ Green had what coach Sam Pittman called the Green’s best-ever carry against Cincinnati.

Now, the man who started in the backfield for the Razorbacks during the second half of the season could be making his return.

Dominque Johnson missed the Bearcats game because he’s still nursing a knee injury suffered in last year’s Outback Bowl win. Pittman and the coaching staff had him prepping last week for possible participation this week against South Carolina. It’s too early to tell if it’ll happen, but it would be a boon.

“We’re going to put him out there this week and see what he can do,” Pittman said. “I felt like we were experimenting with him a little bit last week. We were trying to get him ready for a possibility to play against South Carolina.

Johnson finished fourth on the team yards rushing with 578, but it was less than 100 yards behind team leader KJ Jefferson. He’s different than Sanders and Green in that he’s more of a power back. That difference could make opponents change their game plan. And it could start against the Gamecocks.

“We’re going to amp up his responsibility and reps. If he feels good about it, he’ll play.”

Browns injury updates: 1 significant injury, 4 encouraging reports Sunday

The day after the Bears game came five injury updates, thankfully four were positive:

The Cleveland Browns lost their last two preseason games by two points combined. As has always been noted, staying healthy in the games are always the highest priority.

Against the Chicago Bears, safety Grant Delpit and guard Wyatt Teller went down with injuries among the team’s starters. DE Chris Odom, fighting for a roster spot, also left the game due to injury.

Cleveland also had a few players that have sat out games due to injury concerns throughout preseason including CB A.J. Green and S Ronnie Harrison who didn’t play during the game against the Bears.

With Week 1 now two weeks away, the Browns have to cut their roster down to the initial 53-man and get as healthy as possible. Sunday, HC Kevin Stefanski provided some injury updates:

Arkansas running back Dominique Johnson serving as mentor, not player, this fall camp

Johnson will likely miss the season opener, but he’s making sure his Arkansas running back teammates are ready.

Dominique Johnson is unlikely to play in Arkansas’ season-opener against Cincinnati after undergoing knee surgery in the offseason.

But the Razorbacks’ starting running back is still putting in work during his team’s fall camp.

“I give him responsibilities and tell him what they’re supposed to do for each other,” running backs coach Jimmy Smith said. “He’s always having fun and coaching the guys. He’s in good spirits, right now. He knows what I expect of him, and he does it.”

Johnson was just fourth on the team in yards rushing last year, but that total belied his effect. He started the year as a tight end and became the Arkansas starter at running back for the final third of the year. His seven touchdown runs were tops on the team.

Arkansas’ backfield is in quality hands – er, legs – even without Johnson, though. Rocket Sanders ran for 578 yards and five scores and AJ Green ran for 227 as the fourth-stringer.

Johnson is helping those two sophomores continue their development this fall.

“I wolud say he’s definitely a leader in our room,” Green said. “Him being able to do that, it just shows how much of a leader you are, because the better leader you are the more acts of service you’re going to do for the people you care for, the people you’re trying to lead. He’s definitely doing a great job of leading us.”
