The Nike Air Jordan film from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon is receiving tons of early praise

Ben Affleck’s sports drama Air is getting great early notices out of South by Southwest.

The upcoming sports drama Air had its world premiere at South by Southwest this weekend, and the early reactions are incredibly encouraging.

The dramatized telling of how Nike landed Michael Jordan for the legendary Air Jordan shoe deal comes from actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck, who directs and plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight in the project.

Affleck’s longtime collaborator and buddy Matt Damon plays Nike employee Sonny Vaccaro, who worked to get Jordan on board for the shoe deal that changed both of their lives.

Affleck showed the film at the Austin, Texas, film festival on Saturday, and the early returns are quite encouraging. Affleck and the Air team got a standing ovation from the SXSW crowd.

Affleck seemed to really hype up the importance of the film premiere in the grand scheme of his career.

In his review, Variety critic Peter Debruge called it “this generation’s Jerry Maguire.”

More reactions praised the cast, Affleck’s direction and the film’s uplifting message.

If you’re excited to check out Air, it’ll hit theaters nationwide on April 5.

LOOK: Taylor Heinicke’s new Jordans after beating Falcons

The pick is in — and they’re a bit surprising.

The Washington Commanders defeated the Atlanta Falcons Sunday to improve to 7-5. It was Washington’s sixth win in its last seven games, and the Commanders currently hold the NFC’s final playoff spot.

Five of Washington’s last six wins have come with Taylor Heinicke under center. And one of the more enjoyable aspects of Washington’s winning streak is which Jordan sneakers he will purchase after another win.

Heinicke said last week that if the Commanders beat the Falcons in Week 12, the running backs would receive Jordans this week. After Sunday’s win, Heinicke said running back Antonio Gibson was already in his ear about the new shoes.

So what will the new Jordans look like?

If you’re confused, I do understand. However, the Falcons added the gold to their throwbacks this season, giving Heinicke more options besides the red and black only.

Heinicke has undoubtedly thought about these shoes. A Georgia native, Heinicke is now 2-0 vs. the Falcons in his career.

This trend is popular with his teammates. Heinicke gave the tight ends shoes last week, and John Bates was sporting his in a postgame interview. Meanwhile, rookie Cole Turner took to Twitter to social media to approve of his new kicks.

The Commanders play the Giants next — two games in a row. Heinicke is 2-0 against the Giants as a starting quarterback, but this New York team is much different than the one from a year ago.

Taylor Heinicke has his latest pair of Jordans picked out from Week 11 win

Not only does he have the new shoes picked out, but he’s also buying the tight ends some this week.

You know the drill at this point. When the Washington Commanders win with Taylor Heinicke at quarterback, he’s going shoe shopping. After Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans, Heinicke is adding some new blue, red and white Air Jordans to his rapidly growing collection.

We now know what those new Jordans look like.

Those don’t necessarily look like Texans’ colors, as the first commenter on the thread had a picture displaying a pair of Jordans that more resembles Houston’s colors.

But who are we to argue? This is Heinicke’s world. After Sunday’s win, Heinicke improves to 4-1 as Washington’s starting quarterback this season and has four new pairs of Jordans to show for his work.

Last week, Heinicke shared the love with his offensive linemen. This week, he’s sharing that love with his tight ends.

“Yes, the tight ends will be getting sneakers this week,” Heinicke said Sunday. “The way we’ve been running the ball in the last five, six weeks, they’re just as big a part of this offensive line. And to have two rookies out there laying their body out,  they deserve something. So those guys will be getting some sneakers.

The legend of Heinicke continues to grow.

Taylor Heinicke buys his offensive line Air Jordans after win over the Eagles

Just not the same Jordans Heinicke ordered for himself. It was too expensive, he joked.

A good quarterback always takes care of his offensive line.

Over the years, we’ve heard of quarterbacks buying their offensive linemen expensive watches, suits, or even gaming consoles. Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke is doing things a little bit differently.

Heinicke, who revealed earlier this season that when the Commanders win a game with him under center, orders a pair of Air Jordans in the opposing team’s color scheme. After the win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 7, Heinicke ordered some green and yellow Jordans.

After this week’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, Heinicke didn’t wait long to order his latest pair of Jordans.

Heinicke met with the media Wednesday and revealed he wasn’t the only to get new Jordans this week.

“Yeah, this might be a surprise,” Heinicke says of buying kicks for his offensive linemen. “I was trying to keep it a little surprise with O-Line, but they’ve been busting their [butt] all year, and I think they need to be compensated for that. So, I ordered some, some, some J’s for the starting off line this past week, and if they keep doing that they’ll be getting some more.”

It’s little things like this that make Heinicke beloved in the locker room. Remember, Heinicke isn’t making Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers money. Per Over the Cap, Heinicke’s cap number is $3.6 million this season, but he does receive a bonus for every Washington victory with him under center.

That’s not chump change at all, but a nice gesture considering Heinicke is still considered Washington’s backup quarterback.

So did Heinicke order his teammates the same green Jordans he ordered for himself this week?

“No, no, I can’t spend that much money, but I got ’em some cool ones that have the Eagles colors,” he joked.

Heinicke will start again in Week 11 at Houston. He is 3-1 as the starting quarterback this season.
