‘Turnovers is what made was the game’ Aicha Coulibaly and Endyia Rogers answer questions in preview of the Auburn game

Here’s what Aggies Aicha Coulibaly and Endyia Rogers had to say during the Auburn matchup preview.

Texas A&M (12-2, 0-1) returns home to face the Auburn Tigers (11-3, 0-1) on Sunday afternoon.

They are looking to move on from their first loss since November 16th, when they dropped their SEC opener 54-50 to Coach Joni Taylor’s former team, the Georgia Bulldogs. It was a wake-up call and they realized turnovers in conference play will not be as easy to come back against.

“it was us doing things that were very uncharacteristic whether it was traveling passing the ball to people we think they’re there they’re not there it was just us that those are things that we can fix we don’t really turn the ball over but yesterday they just caught us on a bad day” – Endyia Rogers

The Aggies will have a chance to right the ship and get their first SEC win on the season. Below, you can watch the full presser Q&A with Aicha Coulibaly and Endyia Rogers.

The Aggie Women’s basketball receives AP votes moving them closer to the Top 25

The Aggies hot streak is starting to earn them Top 25 votes headed into SEC play

To say year two under Head Women’s basketball coach Joni Taylor looks drastically different than year one would be an understatement.

On top of bringing in a lot of new and proven faces to the team, she’s been preaching toughness. Coach Taylor explained during SEC Days how this season was going to be much different than the last.

“Our motto is TOUGH: Trust, Ownership, Unity, Gratefulness, and Humility. I think we became last year resilient. ”

“I think we’re coming into this year with a new confidence, with a new sense of understanding about what it takes day in and day out.”

On top of a change in Motto, she brought in several quality transfers that have played a big role in the team being 12-1 heading into SEC play. On top of only losing one game to start the season, they are riding a 10-game winning streak, with their last loss coming against Purdue back on November 16th.

Paired with Janiah Barker, three of the four transfers brought win are averaging double digits in points and Barker and Lauren Ware are a rebound away from averaging double-doubles. Below are the averages from the 5th-ranked transfer class.

Aicha Coulibaly – 11.5 points / 2.3 assists / 2.2 steals / 4.1 rebounds

Lauren Ware – 11.4 points / 2.5 blocks / 9.5 rebounds

Endyia Rogers – 10.5 points / 4.5 assists / 1.4 steals

Kyndall Hunter – injured

All these moves have been paying early dividends and the voters are finally starting to take notice. If they can keep up this pace, they no doubt will be shooting up the rankings as the competition starts to increase once SEC play starts.

Below, you can check out some of the best highlights from their last win.

The Texas A&M Women’s basketball team extends winning streak to seven

The Aggie Women’s basketball team extends their win streak to seven after beating Robert Morris at Reed Arena

Amid all the transfer portal news on the football front Head Women’s basketball coach, Joni Taylor has the team on a roll. The team currently sits at 9-1 and is on a seven-game winning streak.

Even after a dominant 67-36 win over Robert Morris Coach Taylor wasn’t pleased with the first half and felt the Colonials dictated the pace early. She made sure to let them know they needed to pick it up and the second half was much cleaner.

“Robert Morris is they do some really good stuff on offense on defense they play really hard they’re very well coached and I thought they dictated the pace…”

“…I thought we did come out in the third and fourth quarter and do a much better job of um dictating on both sides of the ball… yeah do I think we took a step in the right direction in the third and fourth quarter absolutely did we put a complete game together no…”

Once again, the transfers came up big in the win with Aicha Coulibaly dropping 16 points and Lauren Ware posting a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Aggies are starting to gel at a good time and should have some momentum as the move towards SEC play. Below are some highlights from the win over Robert Morris.

Transfer Aggie guard crosses milestone in first game with Texas A&M

New Aggie guard, Aicha Coulibaly, crossed 1,000 career points in victory over A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders

Texas A&M coach Joni Taylor made it a point to take this team to the next level after a rough first season full of injuries and inexperience. To make that jump, Coach Taylor and her staff utilized the transfer portal to boost her roster with 2-time All-SEC selection transfer Aicha Coulibaly.

Coulibaly wasted no time getting into a rhythm, finishing the night as the leading scorer (17 points) on 7-10 shooting. A few shots in the transfer guard had across a career milestone of 1,000 points. Her strong debut performance in the victory is just a glimpse at what she can provide to the team.

What can be expected in Johnnie Harris’ third year in Auburn?

Auburn Women’s Basketball has improved every season under Johnnie Harris’ leadership. Can we expect more of the same next season?

The 2022-23 season was a step in the right direction for the Auburn Tigers women’s basketball program. The Tigers finished with a winning record for the first time since 2019 and advanced to the second round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. [autotag]Johnnie Harris[/autotag] has the program moving in the right direction.

The roster for next year will look different, but the Tigers will welcome back a familiar face. [autotag]Honesty Scott-Grayson[/autotag], a guard from Brick, New Jersey, will be back for her sixth year of college basketball and her fourth year with Auburn. Scott-Grayson averaged 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game and scored her 1,000th career point this season.

Auburn has two players who have entered the transfer portal so far: [autotag]Romi Levy[/autotag] and [autotag]Aicha Coulibaly[/autotag]. Levy was a junior forward from Herzelia, Israel who missed the 2021-22 season due to a knee injury. Levy averaged 6.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists for the Tigers this season. Coulibaly was a junior guard from Bamako, Mali who has been a big part of the program for three seasons. Coulibaly averaged 16 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists and started 25 games for Auburn this season.

The Tigers have two important recruits coming in for next season: [autotag]Timya Thurman[/autotag] and [autotag]Savannah Scott[/autotag].

“I’m very excited about the class of 2023,” Harris said. “They both provide much-needed SEC size and skills that will help boost our program to the next level. This is an instant impact class that we’ve needed to rebuild this program.

Thurman is a 6’5” center from Linden, Alabama.

“Timya Thurman has the potential to be a dominant post player in the SEC,” Harris said. “She’s long, physical, and her presence will be felt on both ends of the court. This is an Alabama kid that is able to stay close to home, while establishing her new home here at Auburn.”

Scott is a 6’4″ center from Conway, Arkansas.

“Savannah Scott is a physical player who has really good hands and footwork in the paint,” Harris said. When I think of tough, hard-nosed, physical, and aggressive…she’s a player that comes to mind. She’s also the kind of post player skilled enough to play with another big.”

This will be a crucial year for Auburn’s rebuilding process and Harris is confident that the team will continue moving in the right direction.
