Game One Highlights: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Missouri

Highlights: The Aggie take game one against Missouri off the bat of Cottrill’s two home runs

The Aggies were on their way to a win before the weather made a change of plans postponing the game until Saturday. In their final SEC series and game at home, the Aggie softball team got off to a good start. Texas A&M got off to another fast start with six runs in the first three innings. Julia Cottrill was the main attraction producing four RBI on two home runs.

Even though it’s the end of the regular season it feels like this team is just now hitting its potential and learning how to bounce back from tough losses. Coach Ford’s main message this season has been for them to fight and not settle for just being a good team. They should be striving to be great and playing the game of softball is a privilege is what she has been drilling into her team all season long.

Game two is on Saturday, April 29th at Davis Diamond

Game One Recap: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Prairie View A&M

The Aggies clock out early with a five-inning run-rule victory over Prairie View A&M

The Aggies took care of business during their midweek game carrying over the momentum from their series win over South Carolina. No. 24 Texas A&M (30-17) beat Prairie View A&M (23-17) 12-0 run ruling them to end the night early.

Texas A&M wasted no time putting runs on the board. After a flurry of walks, hits, and throwing errors the Aggie loaded the bases for Julia Cottrill. She hit a single to center field to score Koko Wooley then a fielder’s choice off a Morgan Smith infield hit scored Amari Harper. Two more walks plated Trinity Cannon that was followed up by a double by Allie Enright bringing in

Rylen Wiggins and Cottrill. The final score of the inning was off a fielding error putting Gracyn Coleman across the plate for a 6-0 lead.

The Aggie added a solo run in the third inning, but in the bottom of the fourth inning, they finished the Panthers off. It was very similar to the first inning a hit and multiple walks loaded the bases. A Wiggins sac fly brought in Cannon, then a Riley Valentine double-scored Aiyana Coleman. Enright got her second double of the night scoring two more runs. The 12th run came from a single up the middle by Grace Uribe for a 0-12 lead going into the top of the fifth inning.

Emiley Kennedy went three up and three down to run-rule the Panthers and keep the no-hitter intact.

Final Score: Aggies 12, Panthers 0 – W: Kennedy, Emiley (9-4); L: Rojas, J (7-2)

Highlights: The Aggies get a few extra hours of sleep as they run-rule Prairie View A&M 12-0 through five innings

Texas A&M put on a pitching clinic against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday allowing no hits as they run-ruled the Panthers 12-0 through five innings. Emily Leavitt and Emiley Kennedy combined for six strikeouts and only allowed a few walks. They likely would have hit double digits strikeouts but the Aggies bats were connecting early and often with six runs in the first inning alone. Then they scored another six runs between the third and fourth innings sending everyone home early for win number 30 on the year.

Coach Ford talked about the no-hitter after the game:

“E-squared. It was a good game coming off the weekend. I wanted to get them some bullpen work but with live batter, so I knew going in that Leavitt was going to throw for two innings and Kennedy was going to throw the next innings. I’m happy with what we did today.”

Texas A&M will be back in action when they host Missouri in a three-game series starting on April 28th.

Game Three Recap: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

Here is the Game Three recap for No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

This was my favorite game of the series hands down. No.24 Texas A&M (29-17, 10-11 SEC) turned up the volume this game to the tune of 13 hits and 13 runs scored, and they let Ole Miss (27-21, 6-12 SEC) know who was boss. The Aggie answered back every time the Rebel tried to mount a comeback squashing their momentum for a series-clinching victory.

Texas A&M came out the gate at full speed. Koko Wooley and Amari Harper both started out with singles then Trinity Cannon hit her own single that scored Wooley. Julia Cottrill was walked then a few batters later Rylen Wiggins hit a home run over the left-field wall for a grand slam for a 5-0 lead.

They added two more insurance runs in the next inning. Star Ferguson stole third then went home which was followed up by Harper single scoring Wooley. Ole Miss was able to put two on the board in the bottom of the second, but the Aggies held a 7-2 lead early.

For the third straight inning the Aggies put points up putting even more pressure on Ole Miss. With Fergurson on first base, Harper got her first career triple hit a hit to right field that scored Star. Cannon brought her home on a single that got by third base and went up 9-2 going into the fourth inning.

The Rebels went on a rally to pull within four in the bottom of the fifth inning cutting the lead to 9-6. However, like earlier in the game the Aggies were able to respond and it came of the bat of Grace Uribe. Runners were on second and third base went Uribe hit a chopper that got over the pitchers head into center field scoring two.

The final two Texas A&M runs came in the top of the seventh off a throwing error bringing Cannon and Harper home. Ole Miss hit a pair of home runs in the final frame but it was not enough to overcome the eight run deficit. Emily Kennedy finished off the last two batters with a strikeout and ground out to end the game with a final score of 13-8.

Final Score: Aggies 13, Rebels 8 – W: Leavitt, Emily (10-6); L: Kliethermes, Makenna (6-5)

Game Three Highlights: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

Highlights: The Aggies win game three taking the series over Ole Miss

This was an extremely entertaining series to watch and was highly competitive. The series came down to this final game and Texas A&M (29-17, 10-11 SEC) started off hot but unlike game two they continued to punch back. The Aggies answered each time Ole Miss (27-21,6-12 SEC) put a score on the board eliminating any chance for a comeback. They built such a strong lead that even with two home runs by the Rebels in the bottom of the seventh inning was not good enough to overcome the eight-run lead.

Coach Ford learned more about her team in this series. After dropping game one and dealing with a little chirping from Ole Miss, the Aggies produced 19 runs, two grand slams, and 20 hits. The whole team played with a swagger we have not seen much this season. This game felt like a growing-up moment as they really stepped up to the challenge Trish Ford put in front of them.

Game Two Recap: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

Texas A&M beat Ole Miss to even the series 1-1

The Aggie bats started off hot and the pitching was on point giving them the win to even up the series. No. 24 Texas A&M (28-17, 9-11 SEC) got their revenge after a chippy game one against Ole Miss (27-20, 6-11 SEC) winning 6-3.

Texas A&M started quickly causing Ole Miss to go to the bullpen early. A Koko Wooley single and two hit batters loaded the bases for Julia Cottrill. She singled to right field scoring Wooley then Morgan Smith hit a double to bring in Amari Harper, Trinity Cannon, and Cottrill to go up 4-0.

Ole Miss was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run and a base hit to cut the lead in half. The Aggie responded off a clutch double by Cottrill allowing Wooley and Cannon to score for a 6-2 score.

The score stood still until the bottom of the seventh inning when Ole Miss hit a solo home run, but Emiley Kennedy came in and induced a flyout, a ground out then struck out the last batter for a final of 6-3.

Final Score: Aggies 6, Rebels 3 – W: Leavitt, Emily (9-5); L: Sparks, Grace (4-4); S: Kennedy, Emiley (2)

Game three will start at 1 pm on April 23rd in Mississippi.

Game Two Highlights: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

Highlights: Texas A&M win 6-3 to even up the series against Ole Miss

The Aggies finally get their first SEC win since April 10th. They put together a solid game and the pitching seems to be returning back to where it was a few weeks ago. It was especially good to see Emiley Leavitt come into the game and stack a few good innings together before Emily Kennedy came in for the close. This was exactly the type of response Coach Ford was looking for after losing a tough game one of the series.

Coach Ford gave her thoughts on the bounce-back win

“It was important for us to come out today with good energy and kind of quiet them early. I thought we did a good job of putting runners on base almost every inning, but I think we could have capitalized a little bit more. Overall, I was proud of our effort, our focus and ability to come out and win a ball game.”

Game three is on Sunday, April 23rd in Mississippi

Game One Recap: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

The Aggies come up short dropping their 4th straight SEC game

This loss was kind of a heartbreaker. No. 24 Texas A&M (27-17, 8-11 SEC) fell for the fourth straight time against an SEC opponent. They did not play a clean game defensively or take advantage of multiple scoring opportunities. The Aggies had a massive 11 hits, which only translated to five runs and nine batters stranded on base. Ole Miss (27-19, 6-10 SEC) used the Aggies miscues against them and cashed in numerous times off errors. With how muddy the SEC standings are, Texas A&M needs to find a way to get back on track soon before they fall to the bottom of the league.

Ole Miss got on the board first with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning and was headed for a rally before the Aggies stiffened up. Texas A&M responded with Amari Harper and Trinity Cannon both getting singles then back-to-back walks allowing Harper to score tying the game at one apiece.

The Rebels added three more runs over the next two innings while the Aggies left five runners on base. However, the A&M answered back strong in the top of the fifth. Morgan Smith was able to drive in Julia Cottrill on a RBI single. Rylen Wiggins followed that up with a single of her own putting runners on first and second base. Sophomore outfielder Allie Enright came to the rescue with a three-run dinger over right field wall to take the lead 5-4.

Unfortunately for the Maroon & White that lead was very short lived as Ole Miss tied it up in the bottom of the fifth. Thats where the score stood until the bottom of the seventh inning.

Coach Ford brought Emily Leavitt in to close out regulation play for a chance to extend the game. It started off well with the first batter lining out to first base. Then after a nine pitch at bat, Leavitt hit the batter for a free base, but the next batter had a fly out to right field. Now we are at two outs and a runner on first. With a pitchers count at zero balls and two strikes, Leavitt hit the batter for another free base putting runners at first and second. That lead to a three-run walk off home run for a final score of 5-8 and the Aggies dropping game one of the series.

Final Score: Aggies 5, Rebels 8 – W: Sparks, Grace (4-3); L: Leavitt, Emily (8-6)

Game two will start at 1 pm on April 22nd in Mississippi.

Game One Highlights: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Ole Miss

Highlights: Texas A&M drop game one of series to Ole Miss

Texas A&M could have given Survivor a run for its money with how many runners they stranded on base this game. After about five innings it looked like Ole Miss was going to keep chipping away at the Aggie defense for a comfortable win while the Aggie offense continued to miss out on scoring opportunities.

The Aggies ended up making it a game and pulled ahead briefly off a three-run home run off the bat of Allie Enright before the Rebels came back to tie the game in the bottom of the same inning. Tied going into the bottom of the seventh, the Aggie pitcher was battling to secure extra innings, but it did not work out in her favor.

After hitting a few batters, Ole Miss hit a three-run home run with two outs for the walk-off win in game one.

Game Highlights: Softball – No. 24 Texas A&M vs Texas State

Highlights: Texas A&M bounce back to run-rule Texas State

Coach Ford challenged her team to raise their standards and fight. The Aggie softball team did not let her down tonight and run-ruled a good Texas State team.

Koko Wooley game an MVP night with four hits a stolen base and a few RBIs. She was strong on the defensive side making multiple highlight plays to keep Texas State scoreless. Junior team leader Julia Cottrill really busted the game open with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth and a few sacrifice flies and base hits ended the night early with an 8-0 Aggie win.

Wooley gave a few thoughts on the Aggies being ranked at this time of the year:

“It’s pretty amazing. It feels good to be able to play on this platform. It’s good for those little kids that look up to us. Just because you’re at schools who didn’t really do good your first year, doesn’t mean you can’t make a change the next year. I feel that the competitiveness is a lot of fun.”

Head Coach Trisha Ford with a short statement on today’s win

“I was excited for the bounce back. I was wondering what tonight was going to look like and I was really impressed and proud of the fight that we had.”

Texas A&M will be back in action when they head to Oxford Mississippi to take on Ole Miss in a three-game series.
