Texas A&M WBB ranks No. 5 in the Transfer Portal

Coach Joni Taylor is hitting the transfer portal hard and 247Sports has taken notice

Heading into year two, Coach Joni Taylor is hitting the transfer portal hard to bring in some experienced players to pair with her duo of All-SEC freshmen and a talented 2023 signing class. The Women’s Basketball team had a rough go at it this year, losing multiple players to either the transfer portal or injury, leading to them only winning nine games.

However, once the SEC tournament began, the Aggies got a few things rolling and surprised everyone by making it to the Quarterfinals before ultimately losing to Ole Miss. In those two games, you could see what Coach Taylor is trying to get her teams to accomplish once she finally has her stamp on this program.

A significant part of getting team buy-in is getting the type of players needed to translate that message from the practice to the game. A great way to do that for new coaches is to bring talented athletes with a few skins on the wall. Coach Taylor is not playing any games as she hit the transfer portal hard, bringing in multiple top 30 transfers that put them in the 247Sports top ten women’s transfer class rankings.

Aggie WBB Coach Taylor gets another top transfer commit

Coach Taylor adds another All-Conference Guard to Aggieland

The Aggie Women’s basketball team will look a little different next year as Coach Joni Taylor is starting to mold this program into her style of play. She didn’t ask a lot of her team this past season, other than to play hard defense and embrace the change. After a tough opening season for Coach Taylor, her team was able to show a little bit of what could be in store for Aggie fans after winning their first two games in the SEC tournament.

On the heels of successful recruiting and a strong push in the transfer portal, the Aggies will be adding another All-Conference player to their locker room in Aicha Coulibaly. Rumors surfaced about a month ago that the Auburn transfer had Texas A&M high on the list, but there was radio silence for a week. That was until Sunday around lunchtime when Coulibaly confirmed, via Instagram, her intentions to transfer to Texas A&M.

She will be joining Lauren Ware, Endyia Rogers, and Kyndall Hunter in this transfer class. Three of the four transfers are in ESPN Top 35 women’s college basketball with Coulibaly and Rogers

Below is a short interview with Head Coach Taylor and the announcement of the commitments via social media.

Aggie WBB rumored in running to land huge transfer, Aicha Coulibaly, from Auburn

Rumor: Auburn guard, Aicha Coulibaly, likely to sign with Texas A&M

While nothing is officially confirmed, Auburn guard Aicha Coulibaly was recently at Texas A&M for a visit causing a few rumors to swirl around. She announced her intentions in early April to transfer with two years of eligibility left.

Coulibaly is a very intriguing prospect that will have many suitors. The two-time All-SEC guard averaged 16 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season and would be a perfect fit for the team Coach Taylor is trying to build.

If Coulibaly chooses to go to Texas A&M, she will be joining a young but talented team. Sydney Bowles was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and started all 29 games. Janiah Barker was also named to SEC All-Freshman Team and saw action in 19 games.

Coach Joni Taylor has also signed three top-100 players that include the No 1 players in Texas and Ohio. Being able to pair a veteran guard with some of these younger players would be a great start to the Aggies 2023 season.

Hopefully the rumors are true, and Texas A&M can add a quality starter to the lineup.

Former Aggie, Quenton Jackson, has career night against the Houston Rockets

Former Aggie guard has big night against the Houston Rockets

Now that the G-League has concluded, a number of two-way players are getting some runtime on their respective NBA teams. Quenton Jackson is one of those players and is making the best of his opportunity. Last month while playing in a G-League game, Jackson put everyone on notice that he could put up buckets almost at will and dish out the ball to his playmakers.

On Sunday night, Jackson had a productive game against the Houston Rockets where he scored a career-high in points with 19 and a career-high in assists with five. He also did it in style slamming in a few dunks off ally-oops. The Washington Wizards look to have found a solid contributor for the duration of the contract and Jackson has the ability to carve out a role for a long career in Pro basketball.

Quenton Jackson, just like at Texas A&M, is a highlight reel waiting to happen. Below are some highlights and photos from his career night.

Twitter reacts to Gary Blair’s induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame

Twitter reacts to Coach Blair getting inducted into the Hall of Fame

Coach Gary Blair is one of the most beloved coaches to command the hardcourt in Texas A&M’s history.  His most memorable moment came in 2011 when he led the Aggies to a national championship beating No. 9 Notre Dame 76-70. Over the next 11 seasons, he coached his teams to nine NCAA tournament appearances, an SEC tournament title, and an SEC season title.

Coach Blair announced he was going to retire at the end of the 2021-22 season and had somewhat of a retirement tour. He missed the tournament in his final season, but he left a lasting impression on the university and all the athletes he mentored throughout the years. After a few nominations but missing the final cut he was nominated again, and this time he received some good news. Coach Blair was enjoying a day on the golf course when he got the call.

Below listed are the accomplishments listed on the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame website:

Winner of the 2011 NCAA National Championship with Texas A&M University, Blair went 852-348 (.710) in 37 seasons as head coach at Stephen F. Austin University (1985-93), the University of Arkansas (1993-03) and Texas A&M (2003-22). His 852 victories ranked 12th all-time at the time of his retirement. Blair’s teams earned 23 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a pair of Final Fours (1998 with Arkansas and 2011 with Texas A&M), becoming the third Division I women’s basketball coach to lead two different teams to the Final Four. The veteran Marine, who posted only two losing seasons, was a two-time Women’s Basketball New Service Coach of the Year winner and was a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year honors twice (2003, ’07). Blair has been inducted into numerous halls of fame, including the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Hall of Fame (2008), Texas Sports Hall of Fame (2012), Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame (2013) and the Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Fame (2022).
