Lamar Jackson named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December

For the third time in his career, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month.

Jackson had his best stretch of play this season in December, throwing for 11 touchdowns and 1,060 yards while adding another 247 rushing yards. Jackson skyrocketed to become the overwhelming favorite of the MVP race with big-time performances against the San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins in back-to-back weeks to close out his season. This would be the second MVP award of Jackson’s sixth-year career in the NFL, putting him in a rare list of legendary players to do so.

Jackson’s best game of the season came against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 when he completed 18 of 21 passes for 321 yards and five touchdowns to finish with the third perfect passer rating of his career and his second against the Dolphins after doing so in Week 1 of the 2019 season — the last time Jackson won MVP.

Jackson and the Ravens are gearing up for a postseason run to the Super Bowl following their bye week as the AFC’s No. 1 seed.

Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December/January

#Chiefs RB Jerick McKinnon earned his first career AFC Offensive Player of the Month honors in December.

Its back-to-back months with AFC Offensive Player of the Month wins for the Kansas City Chiefs. In November, Patrick Mahomes earned his fifth career honor. This time around, it’s RB Jerick McKinnon taking home the award for December/January, marking his first monthly award in his NFL career.

McKinnon led the entire NFL in the final six weeks of the regular season with nine total touchdowns, including eight receiving and one rushing touchdown. The 30-year-old running back also had over 400 total yards during that span. He recorded a receiving touchdown in each of those last six games, which made him the first running back since 1970 with a touchdown reception in at least five consecutive games.

The nine touchdown receptions by McKinnon in 2022 are tied with Rams RB Marshall Faulk (2001), Vikings RB Chuck Foreman (1975) and Leroy Hoard (1991) for the most by a running back in a single season in the Super Bowl era.

McKinnon is now the sixth Chiefs running back to earn NFL monthly honors during their career, joining Priest Holmes (two-time winner), Kareem Hunt (September 2017), Larry Johnson (two-time winner), Christian Okoye (October 1991) and Barry Word (December 1991). He’s also the first player from his alma mater, Georgia Southern, to ever win an Offensive Player of the Month award, AFC or NFC.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has done it again, earning his fifth career AFC Offensive Player of the Month honor.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has officially earned his fifth career AFC Offensive Player of the Month honor. He has earned an AFC Offensive Player of the Month award every year since entering the league and is the only player to earn a monthly award in each of the last five seasons.

Mahomes has now garnered AFC monthly honors in September 2018, September 2019, November 2020, December 2021 and November 2022. It’s the most monthly awards owned by a player in Chiefs franchise history.

His latest monthly award comes after Mahomes led the NFL in Weeks 9-12 in completions (116), passing yards (1,426) and touchdown passes (9). He’s passed for over 300 yards in each game in the month of November and K.C. is undefeated in those four games.

It doesn’t hurt that Mahomes continues to stamp his name in NFL history books with each passing game, most recently passing Hall of Famers Dan Marino for the most career 300-yard games in a player’s first six seasons and Ken Stabler for the most wins by a quarterback in their first 75 career starts.

Mahomes is now tied with Drew Brees (5) for the fourth-most monthly awards by a quarterback since 2000. Only Tom Brady (11), Aaron Rodgers (10) and Peyton Manning (8) have more awards since 2000. Along with Brady and Rodgers, Mahomes is the only other active quarterback with five or more monthly awards. Keep in mind that this is just Mahomes’ fifth season as a starter.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for December

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has done it again, earning his fourth career AFC Offensive Player of the Month honor.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is being recognized for his play over the last month. While his season got off to a rocky start, Mahomes has settled in lately, performing well enough to earn AFC Offensive Player of the Month honors for December.

During the past month, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a 4-0 record. They’ve been the only AFC team to go undefeated during that span and he contributed greatly to that success. Mahomes completed 89-of-130 pass attempts (68.5%) for 1,110 yards with eight touchdown passes and two interceptions totaling in a 108.8 passer rating. He also recorded 64 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Not bad for a quarterback that pundits described as “broken” in the early goings of the 2021 NFL season.

This marks the fourth AFC Offensive Player of the Month win for Mahomes during his career, and the most Offensive Player of the Month awards ever by a Chiefs player. He earned awards in both September of 2018 and 2019, while earning his most recent honor in November of 2020. He’s the only player who has won Player of the Month honors in each of the past four NFL seasons.

Additionally, Mahomes joins Aaron Rodgers (10) and Tom Brady (11) as the only active NFL players with four or more career Offensive Player of the Month Awards. That’s some pretty good company to be in if you’re Mahomes.

Derrick Henry named AFC Offensive Player of the Month

Former Alabama running back derrick henry continues to be a succesful running back in the NFL, earning national recognition by being AFC…

Former Alabama runnuning back Derrick Henry has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.

Henry is seemingly at the top of his game, and the top of all running backs in the NFL. The big-bodied, downhill runner can’t be stopped and is the driving force behind the Tennessee Titans 2020 playoff push.

The former Heisman winner was the leader on offense and brought the team all the way to the 2019 AFC Championship, where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Early October, Henry wasted no time getting his name into headlines against the Buffalo Bills. The stiff arm against Josh Norman sent the nation into shock and many questioned how a person of Henry’s stature and strength is allowed to even play running back.

In the month of October, he ran for 344 yards and five touchdowns.

Throughout all of the 2020 season, Henry leads to the league in rushing yards (663), No. 1 in average rushing yards per game (110.5) and is tied for the leaue most in rushing touchdowns (7).

Henry will continue his strong game for the Titans with the hopes of getting them one step further than they did last year and get his team to the final game of the season.

Ravens QB Lamar Jackson wins AFC Offensive Player of the Month for November

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson just keeps piling up awards and records this season. He’ll have to make room on his shelf for another

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was the AFC’s best offensive player in the month of November. That’s not really a shocker since he won the AFC’s Offensive Player of the Week award in three of the four weeks of the month as Baltimore rolled over quality opponents as a part of their current eight-game winning streak.

With this monthly award added to his four AFC Offensive Player of the Week awards, Jackson seems like a shoo-in for the NFL’s MVP award this season. Oddsmakers have him as the frontrunner currently and the stats back that up.

In just November’s four games, Jackson went 64-of-84 (76.19%) for 777 passing yards, 13 touchdown throws, 0 interceptions and a 143.7 passer rating. Jackson also added 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on 41 attempts. Keep in mind these stats are with Jackson getting pulled in the fourth quarter of blowout wins in favor of putting in the backups in three of the four games.

Jackson’s performance has been a huge reason why the Ravens currently sit at 10-2 and hold the top seed in the AFC playoff picture. They have a chance to lock themselves into the postseason and potentially as the AFC North winner in Week 14. Jackson is also on pace to beat Michael Vick’s single-season rushing record for quarterbacks this week as he continues to pile up awards and records in the books this season.
