Ohio State’s Adelaide Aquilla qualifies for World Championships

Aquilla just keeps on making her mark in the shot put. #GoBucks

Ohio State track and field star Adelaide Aquilla has qualified to represent Team USA in the upcoming World Championships.

The 2022 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships were taking place in Eugene, Oregon this week, and Aquilla threw over 14 meters twice, with her 19.45m throw being good enough for second place.

With the result, Aquilla has punched her ticket to the World Championships, also set to take place in Eugene, Oregon from July 15 through the 24.

For Aquilla, it’s the next step on a journey she hopes leads to another Olympic Summer Games appearance when the world descends on Paris in 2024.

We will continue to follow Aquilla as she continues to represent Ohio State well. Here’s wishing her luck in the upcoming World Championships.

Ohio State’s Adelaide Aquilla breaks NCAA shot put record, defends national title

This is a very underrated result that should probably be more of a discussion point than what it will get. #GoBucks

Ohio State track and field star Adelaide Aquilla has done it again, this time in an even more impressive fashion. Aquilla won her second-straight NCAA title in the shot put by breaking the collegiate record with a throw of 19.64m.

Last year’s Olympic bronze medalist also had the top four throws in the entire competition to dominate the field and help place Ohio State No. 6 in the overall women’s NCAA championships after the first day of events. Aquilla beat the second-place finisher by more than a whole meter.

Perhaps even more impressive, Aquilla’s winning throw is the fourth-best in the entire world this year. In other words, the current Buckeye athlete is a star in the making on the world stage.

Keep an eye on the senior shot-putter as she no doubt begins to have more time to train even more intensely after college and perhaps make a run at some pretty special things in the next Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Ohio State shot putter Adelaide Aquilla makes U.S. Olympic team

Ohio State has another Olympian to watch in Japan! Did you watch this?

We knew there was a chance, and now Ohio State track and field star Adelaide Aquilla has made the U.S. Olympic team. The OSU junior finished in third place late Thursday evening in the shot put at the U.S. Olympic Trials to make the squad that will compete in Tokyo.

Aquilla qualified for the finals in the shot put by finishing fifth overall in the first round Thursday afternoon with a best throw of 18.61m / 61-0 Âľ.

She held second place after her first throw in the finals sailed 18.95m / 62-2 ÂĽ. She was eventually overtaken and slotted down to third place but was able to hold on to a top-three finish despite a couple of faults to secure the dream of a lifetime.

Final Results – U.S. Olympic Trials

Shot Put

1.     Jessica Ramsey – 20.12m / 66-0 ¼

2.     Raven Saunders – 19.96m / 65-6

3.     Adelaide Aquila – 18.95m / 62.2 ¼

It has been quite the year for Aquilla. Not only did she qualify for the Olympics, but she won the national titles in both the NCAA indoor and outdoor seasons, all while setting school and Big Ten records. She was also named Ohio State’s Female Athlete of the Year.

Perhaps all of those will be topped by the trip to Tokyo.

Adelaide Aquilla wins national title in shot put

Ohio State track and field star Adelaide Aquilla won the national title in the shot put to sweep the indoor and outdoor championships.

The Ohio State track and field team has a national title winner in the shot put.

After taking home the indoor national championship in the event earlier this year, Adelaide Aquilla completed the double and also won the national title in the NCAA outdoor track and field championships Thursday. But it wasn’t without drama.

Adelaide threw 59-7 1/2 on her fifth throw to take the lead, but that was overtaken by Wisconsin’s Josie Schaefer who then tossed the pellet 60-0 1/4 inches. Not to be outdone, Aquilla reached into all she had and threw a massive 62-3 1/4 to win comfortably.

There is still plenty of action occurring out in Eugene, Oregon, so we’ll continue to keep an eye on what’s going on with the track and field team as anything of interest arises.

With the results, Aquilla becomes the first woman to win an individual national championship in the outdoor NCAA’s since Christina Manning won the 100 meters in 2012.

Ohio State is currently tied for third at these NCAA championships with 13 points. The top five includes Georgia (20 points), Oregon (14), Ohio State (13), Arkansas, and North Dakota State (13 apiece).

For now though, congrats to Aquilla.
