Saturday afternoon was a big one for Clemson’s commits.

Sherrod Covil led Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) to a State Championship victory. The four-star safety pledge finished his high school career as a back-to-back 6A State Champion.

Though, Covil wasn’t the only one playing with a State Championship on the line Saturday. Clemson’s five-star quarterback commit Cade Klubnik led Westlake (Texas) to a 45-14 victory over Katy (TX.) in the state semifinals, earning a trip to the state title game.

As for Myrtle Beach (S.C.) four-star wide receiver commit Adam Randall and Greenville (S.C.) three-star tight end pledge Josh Sapp, the duo combined for four catches with 60 yards and a touchdown during Saturday’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl.

In this edition of “What They Are Saying”, we take a look at what’s being said on Twitter about Clemson’s commits following Saturday’s impressive performances:

The Clemson Insider caught up with a Clemson commit just a couple of minutes after a future teammate of his made a big announcement.

Myrtle Beach (S.C.) four-star wide receiver Adam Randall was enthused by the news that Antonio Williams would be coming to Clemson. The fellow four-star wide receiver out of Dutch Fork (Irmo, S.C.) verbally pledged to the Tigers close to 9 p.m. Thursday night.

“I’m very excited,” Randall told TCI. “I’m just glad that we got him on board. I’m just excited to see me and him play at Clemson and hopefully, we’ll do great things together.

“I recruited him as soon as he got that offer and I was on him. I think we can do great things together. And, it’s nice to have another South Carolina person, but especially him being a receiver. Us going into that receiver room together coming from South Carolina, I think we can do something special.”

Obviously, Randall was recruited by Clemson wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham himself, so he knows what went into sealing Williams’ commitment.

“I’ve known Coach Grisham for a very long time, ever since eighth grade when I was converting over to receiver going into my ninth-grade year in high school,” he said. “It just means a lot to me. I know he’s a really, really good coach and a really, really genuine guy. I think he can help me grow and develop as a man and as a receiver, so that was one of the things that went into my decision. I’m really excited to play for him and also Coach Swinney and play with [his son] Clay.”

Randall was visited by both Grisham and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, who stopped by his home in Myrtle Beach on the evening of Dec. 1.

“It went well,” Randall said of his in-home visit with Clemson. “They’re nice, genuine guys. I already knew that from my visits up to Clemson, but it was just nice for them to come to see where I live and see where I come from and just them being able to see my extended family and things like that. It was just a very neat thing for them to come to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and see what I do on a regular day-to-day basis.”

Randall already felt like he made the right decision before Swinney and Grisham paid a visit to him and his family.

“Just them being able to meet my family, they fell in love with them as soon as they got here”, he added. “I feel like my family feels that I’m being put in good hands and that I can grow as a man and as a football player when I get to Clemson.”

Randall will sign his National Letter of Intent during the early signing period starting Dec. 15 and enroll at Clemson shortly thereafter.

“It’s gonna be exciting with our teammates coming together,” he said. “Hopefully, we can build some chemistry. Hopefully, we can get a couple of guys on board since some other guys dipped out on us. I’m just really excited to see what we can be and see what this recruiting class can bring to the program.”

This particular class now has five solid commitments — including Williams — from prospects in the Palmetto State. Besides Randall, there’s also Mauldin (S.C.) four-star cornerback Jeadyn Lukus and Greenville (S.C.) four-star offensive tackle Collin Sadler and three-star tight end Josh Sapp.

“It’s really exciting,” Randall said. “Five guys from South Carolina, I mean that’s a really big deal. It just means that our recruiting class from South Carolina is a heck of a recruiting class at one of the top programs in the nation…I know that we can do some special things as South Carolina boys and South Carolina natives.

Clemson coaches paid a visit Wednesday to a future member of “Wide Receiver U”.

Head coach Dabo Swinney and wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham made an in-home visit with Myrtle Beach (S.C.) four-star wide receiver and Clemson commit Adam Randall.

Randall was all smiles during the visit with the coaches and reacted to the visit on social media Wednesday evening:

Randall plans to enroll early at Clemson in January and looks forward to starting his career as a Tiger.

“I’m very excited,” he told The Clemson Insider recently. “Just excited to be able to go to still one of the top programs in the nation, be able to go in there and hopefully contribute at this point in time. I’m very thankful that I was blessed with these abilities from God to get to this point and be able to be in this situation, and thankful for my parents and things like that.

“Just really kind of taking it all in as it winds down. I know once I get there, it’s going to be a little bit more business-like and not as much as the recruiting process, but more focused on football. So, I’m glad for that and glad to be at a program that I know I’m going to love.”

Randall (6-3, 215) is ranked as high as the No. 105 overall prospect in the 2022 class by 247Sports, which considers him the No. 16 wide receiver in the class.

4-star receiver commit on Clemson: ‘I’m not going to jump ship’

Clemson four-star wide receiver commit Adam Randall is having a strong senior season and nearing the end of what has been a stellar career at Myrtle Beach High School.

Randall (6-3, 215) has racked up over 2,500 receiving yards and scored more than 25 touchdowns during his high school career. Two weeks ago, he had five touchdown catches and broke a school record with 255 receiving yards in Myrtle Beach’s win over its rival, North Myrtle Beach.

Ranked as high as the No. 15 wideout and No. 104 overall prospect in the 2022 class by 247Sports, Randall continues to show on the field why he is a highly regarded talent.

“I feel like I’ve played pretty well,” he told The Clemson Insider. “Just trying to live up to the hype that has been put on my back. … But it’s been an honor and a blessing to be able to be healthy this year and just go out there and get to do what I love and get the job done.”

Randall was recently recognized as one of five finalists for the prestigious 2021 S.C. Mr. Football award, which is given to the top public school high school football senior player in the state and based on performance on and off the field.

The finalists were announced on Oct. 27, and the winner will be announced during the North-South All-Star Game in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 11.

“It feels great,” Randall said of being named a Mr. Football finalist. “It’s definitely something that I’ve been looking forward to throughout my high school career, and I’m just honored and blessed to be in this position that I was able to be in with the finalists.”

This season, Randall has helped Myrtle Beach to an 8-1 record, with its latest victory coming this past Friday by a score of 56-19 over Midland Valley (Graniteville, S.C.) in the first round of the Class 4A lower state playoffs. Randall hopes to finish his senior season the way that his freshman year in 2018 ended – with a state championship.

After this season concludes, Randall will get ready to join a Clemson football program that has had no shortage of success under Dabo Swinney, winning seven ACC Championships and two national titles during his tenure as head coach.

While Randall has experienced plenty of success as well at Myrtle Beach – which looks to make it to the state title game for the third time in four seasons – Randall can also relate to what has been a relatively down year for Swinney’s program, though he remains confident that a bright future is ahead for the Tigers.

“Everybody sometimes has a rebuilding year,” Randall said. “I’ve been at a real big high school and I’ve been able to go through a state championship, and also a year where we have a year like Clemson – we have big expectations but we kind of let down and lose a couple of games. So, I understand it and I understand that it’s not all on one person, and I’m not going to jump ship just because there’s been a little bit of a not living up to the expectations this year. And I understand that. There’s a lot of young guys playing, and people don’t understand that D.J. (Uiagalelei) is still a young player in college, too. So, I think that you can’t really put it on one player, and I think that they’re going to be fine. Their program is built on solid ground, so I know that they’ll be fine.”

While Randall is focused on trying to finish his senior campaign with another state championship ring, he looks forward to starting his Clemson career when he arrives on campus in January as an early enrollee.

“I’m very excited,” he said. “Just excited to be able to go to still one of the top programs in the nation, be able to go in there and hopefully contribute at this point in time. I’m very thankful that I was blessed with these abilities from God to get to this point and be able to be in this situation, and thankful for my parents and things like that. Just really kind of taking it all in as it winds down. I know once I get there, it’s going to be a little bit more business-like and not as much as the recruiting process, but more focused on football. So, I’m glad for that and glad to be at a program that I know I’m going to love.”

Randall hopes to make an early impact for the Tigers next year.

“They’re going to get a big, physical guy that’s going to work hard and hopefully be able to get there and perfect my craft,” he said. “I’m just thankful that I have great coaches to develop me and get me better throughout my time there, and just hopefully be a receiver that can contribute when I get on campus.”

Friday Night Lights: Sabb, Randall lead future Tigers with impressive performances

A bunch of Clemson commitments shined with standout performances in their respective teams’ games this weekend.

Four-star linebacker pledge Jaren Kanak put together another dominant performance, but it wasn’t enough as Hays (KS.) fell 61-40 to Wichita Northwest (Wichita, KS.). Kanak recorded 176 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns (3, 30 and 54 yards) in the first half, but came up lame on his final score before halftime. Kanak tossed two touchdown passes, as well, but it wasn’t enough, as Hays was unable to hold off a second-half comeback.

Four-star wide receiver pledge Adam Randall did it all against South Florence. In Myrtle Beach’s (S.C.) 21-17 win on Friday, Randall accounted for all three of his team’s touchdowns. He threw a 15-yard touchdown pass on a trick play and had two rushing touchdowns (1 and 45 yards). While it was a relatively low-scoring affair and Randall had just 110 yards of total offense, the receiver commit was the difference in his team’s 4-point victory.

In other action, the IMG trio of four-star pledges DE Jihaad Campbell, CB Daylen Everette and S Keon Sabb faced off against East St. Louis (IL.) and fellow Clemson cornerback commit, four-star Toriano Pride.

Campbell recorded a sack and Sabb had a 99-yard pick-six to give IMG an early 7-0 lead. They’d go on to win in dominating fashion, 49-8.

As for Greenville’s (S.C) three-star tight end pledge Josh Sapp, in his first game since committing to Clemson, the legacy recruit had just two catches for 16 yards. Sapp and four-star offensive tackle pledge Collin Sadler were unable to help hold off Greenwood (S.C.), which narrowly won 30-29 and improved to 7-1 on the season.

Here are other scores from games involving Clemson commits this weekend:

S Sherrod Covil, Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Va.) – 51-13 win vs. Nansemond River (Suffolk, Va.)

CB Jeadyn Lukus, Mauldin (S.C.) – 38-28 win vs. Woodmont (Piedmont, S.C.)

OT Blake Miller, Strongsville (Oh.) – 31-14 loss vs. Brunswick (Oh.)

*Both Westlake (Austin, TX.) five-star quarterback commit Cade Klubnik and Pinellas Park (Largo, Fla). three-star kicker Robert Gunn III are still currently sidelined with injuries.
