Titans sign 12 players to Reserve/Futures contracts

The Tennessee Titans started their offseason by signing 12 players to Reserve/Futures contracts.

The Tennessee Titans wrapped up their 2024 season, which culminated in a 3-14 record and securing the top spot in the 2025 NFL draft.

The Titans are heading into an important offseason with plenty of questions. While it appears that both head coach Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon will return, they still have many needs and massive holes to address through free agency and the 2025 NFL draft.

The Titans started the offseason by signing 12 players to reserve/future contracts on Monday.

Defensive tackles McTelvin Agim, Isaiah Iton and Abdullah Anderson, linebackers Curtis Bolton and Kyron Johnson, offensive linemen Chandler Brewer and Isaiah Prince, running back Jabari Small, safety Gervarrius Owens, tight end Thomas Odukoya, wide receiver Stanley Morgan and cornerback Gabe Jeudy-Lally were all added to the offseason roster after ending 2024 on the practice squad.

Anderson, Odukoya and Jeudy-Lally all opened the 2024 season on the initial 53-man roster coming out of training camp.

These reserves/futures contracts are given to players who are not on the 53-man roster and prevents those players from negotiating and signing with another team. It allows teams who have missed the playoffs a chance to get a jump on building their offseason.

Titans release Mason Kinsey, sign former special teams ace

The Tennessee Titans started preparations for Week 9 with a flurry of roster moves.

The Tennessee Titans ended their silence on Tuesday by making some roster moves as they start preparing for their Week 9 battle with the New England Patriots.

The Titans released fan-favorite Mason Kinsey from the 53-man roster. Kinsey was signed from the practice squad Saturday on the heels of trading DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. Kinsey will likely be re-signed to the practice squad later in the week. The move leaves the Titans roster at 52 players, so another move is likely in the works.

The Titans also added a few players to their practice squad heading into the week. The first was adding Abdullah Anderson, a move that was mentioned on Monday when they released him from the 53-man roster. Joining Anderson will be wide receiver Justin Hardee and offensive lineman Arlington Hambright.

Hardee is an interesting addition and a former special teams ace. The veteran was a Pro Bowler in 2022 for the New York Jets and is highly regarded as one of the top coverage players in the league. The Titans special teams have been abysmal, so any reinforcements would be a welcomed sight.

The Titans also released Cole Spencer from the practice squad.

Titans activate Cedric Gray, waive Abdullah Anderson

It was decision time for the Tennessee Titans on linebacker Cedric Gray, and the team decided to activate him from injured reserve.

The Tennessee Titans remained busy on the transaction front on Monday, making a move that has been in the works for a few weeks. The Titans activated rookie linebacker Cedric Gray from injured reserve and released defensive tackle Abdullah Anderson in a corresponding move.

A fourth-round selection out of North Carolina, Gray is somewhat of an unknown commodity at this point after suffering through an injury-riddled and dismal training camp. Now healthy, Gray will make his long-awaited debut and could gain some crucial experience after the team traded away linebacker Ernest Jones one week ago.

Gray was a sideline-to-sideline playmaker at North Carolina, recording 121 tackles during his senior year with the Tar Heels. He will join recently acquired Jerome Baker as reinforcements in the inside linebacking corps.

To make room, the team waived Anderson and likely intend to re-sign to the practice squad. In 202H4, he played 38 defensive snaps in four games. The journeyman defensive lineman has provided quality depth behind Jeffery Simmons and T’Vondre Sweat.

In his career, he has played in 33 games with the Chicago Bears, Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Commanders, and Titans, recording 54 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a pass defended, and a fumble recovery over that span.

Titans’ elevate QB Trevor Siemian, CB Gabe Jeudy-Lally for Week 7

Treylon Burks to IR for the Titans.

The Tennessee Titans make a couple roster moves along with dipping into their practice squad Saturday afternoon in preparation for their match-up with the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium.

The Titans officially placed WR Treylon Burks on injured reserve with his knee injury. This is the latest setback for the former first-round wide receiver and builds upon the frustrations that have plagued his career. He will miss at least the next four games, although it could be much longer depending on the severity.

In his place, the Titans signed DT Abdullah Anderson to the active roster from the practice squad  Anderson does have some experience. In his career, he has eight starts in 33 appearances, accumulating 54 tackles and 2.5 sacks with the Bears, Commanders, Falcons, Packers and Vikings.

The Titans followed that transaction by elevating QB Trevor Siemian and CB Gabe Jeudy-Lally for the game with the Bills. These moves bring  the potential availability of QB Will Levis and CB L’Jarius Sneed for Week 7 into question. Both players are listed as questionable on the final injury report.

The elevation of Jeudy-Lally is not much of a surprise with Sneed missing practice all week with his quad injury. His elevation would insulate the Titans if he can’t go. The Siemian elevation may signal that Levis is still feeling the aftereffects of his shoulder injury.  Levis practiced all week, but seemed to have a setback on Friday being limited after practicing in full on Thursday.

This is the first elevation of 2024 for both Siemian and Jeudy-Lally.

Titans elevate DL Abdullah Anderson, CB Tre Avery

The Titans have elevated Abdullah Anderson and Tre Avery from the practice squad ahead of their Wek 6 matchup with the Colts.

The Tennessee Titans are less than 24 hours away from hosting the Indianapolis Colts after an early Week 5 bye. The bye seemed to come at a good time for the Titans as starting quarterback Will Levis injured his shoulder in Week 4 and needed time to recover.

As the week has worn on, we’ve learned that Levis will indeed start tomorrow, and Mason Rudolph will be back on the sideline.

The Titans have dealt with other injuries, mostly on the defensive side of the ball, too. This is why it’s no surprise that for the second week in a row (minus the bye), both defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson and cornerback Tre Avery are being elevated from the practice squad.

In Week 4, Anderson was in on 24 defensive snaps but didn’t record any stats. Avery was in on 17 special teams’ snaps.

While neither Anderson nor Avery recorded any stats against the Dolphins, their presence was still helpful. They are capable of giving breaks to the starters in their respective positions so that the more impactful players get a rest. Plus, the Indianapolis Colts’ offense is incredibly banged up, so Dennard Wilson might be inclined to give them extra snaps to get some much-needed in-game experience. Titans elevate DL Abdullah Anderson, CB Tre Avery from practice squad

The Tennessee Titans have elevated defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson and cornerback Tre Avery for their Monday night match-up with Miami.

The Tennessee Titans dipped into their practice squad Monday afternoon in preparation for their match-up with the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium, elevating defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson and cornerback Tre Avery from the practice squad for Monday Night Football.

The addition of Anderson may signal that defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons is out. Going into the weekend, he was doubtful with an elbow injury. A late training camp addition, Anderson made the most of his opportunity, as was quickly re-signed to the practice squad after being one of the final cuts.

While he is not Simmons, Anderson does have some experience. In his career, he has eight starts in 33 appearances, accumulating 54 tackles and 2.5 sacks with the Bears, Commanders, Falcons, Packers and Vikings.

With Chidobe Awuzie on injured reserve and L’Jarius Sneed battling a hamstring injury, the Titans needed some cornerback depth and called  up a familiar face. Avery, who is in his third season with the Titans, has played in 29 games with five starts during that time.

This is the first elevation of 2024 for both Anderson and Avery.

Titans’ play the ‘jersey’ numbers game

New faces, new numbers; the Tennessee Titans announce jersey number changes heading into the regular season.

The Tennessee Titans have made a few changes since their initial 53-man roster was announced. They have claimed players from waivers and added players to the practice squad. In addition, some players have changed their jersey numbers heading into the regular season.

Newly acquired linebacker Ernest Jones is the most notable. The team hopes the veteran solidifies the spot alongside Kenneth Murray Jr., who will continue to wear the No. 53 he wore during the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.

After being claimed on waivers, former Houston Texans pass rusher Ali Gaye will wear No. 59, and former Dallas Cowboys defensive back Julius Wood will have No. 24 on his jersey. The Titans were awarded former Indianapolis Colts cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. off waivers on Thursday, but his number has not been released.

The Titans also announced a number of changes for some players already on the roster. Defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson, the No. 94, safety Quandre Diggs  No. 28, outside linebacker Khalid Duke No. 47 and defensive lineman Isaiah Iton No. 95.

With the season opener a little over a week away, stay tuned for any and all roster updates.

Titans bolster defensive line with latest signing

Anderson played in seven games with the Commanders last year.

The Tennessee Titans have signed defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson after placing Marlon Davidson on injured reserve (IR), as Paul Kuharsky reported.

Davidson suffered a season-ending bicep injury in Thursday’s joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks and was in competition to make the roster in a depth role.

Instead, the Titans turn to Anderson. The 28-year-old signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2018 season. He appeared in six games that year and collected four tackles and one sack.

Since then, Anderson spent one season with the Minnesota Vikings, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, and, most recently, Washington Commanders.

The Bucknell product enjoyed his best season in 2022 when he played in 16 games, including eight starts, and recorded 40 tackles, including two for loss, one sack, and one pass deflection.

Anderson figures to compete for a roster spot with Keondre Coburn, Isaiah Iton, and Quinton Bohana.

Cardinals bring in 3 D-linemen for tryouts

The Cardinals worked out a trio of interior defensive line this week.

According to the league’s transaction report on Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals had players at State Farm Stadium for tryouts. Apparently, they are looking for depth on the defensive line.

They hosted three defensive tackles, ultimately signing one.

Steelers sign DE Abdullah Anderson

The Steelers signed street free agent Abdullah Anderson to their 90-man offseason roster on Monday.

The Steelers’ offseason roster continues to grow as the team announced on Monday that they’ve signed defensive end Abdullah Anderson to a one-year contract.

Anderson at 6-foot 3, 297 pounds, spent most of the 2020 season on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad and was active for one game.

The Chicago Bears signed Anderson as an undrafted free agent following the  2018 NFL draft. Most of his time in Chicago was spent on the practice squad, but he did appear in six matchups over the two seasons. Anderson recorded four tackles (one for loss), a quarterback hit and one sack in those games.

Anderson played college football at Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., where he was the 2017 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year and Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club FCS Collegiate Player of the Year.

The defensive line is now 10 players deep so far, including starters Cameron Heyward, Tyson Alulalu and Stephon Tuitt. Pittsburgh signed defensive end T.J. Carter just last week.

According to Trib Live’s Joe Rutter, Pittsburgh currently has 73 players under contract, 17 under the offseason roster limit of 90.
