Former players react to the return of Strength and Conditioning Coach Jerry Schmidt

How did former players react to the news that the Sooners were bringing back strength and conditioning coach Jerry Schmidt?

The Oklahoma Sooners are beginning to fill out their staff. Last night it was reported that they had a “done deal” with Jeff Lebby to be the next offensive coordinator for OU. The bigger news on the night, however, appeared to be the return of former strength and conditioning coach Jerry Schmidt.

As Brent Venables begins to fill out his staff, it appears he’s turning to guys that helped make the Bob Stoops era of Sooners football so successful. Schmidt, affectionately referred to as Smitty, was with the Sooners from 1999-2017.

Players who worked with the former Sooners coach went to Twitter to share their “fond” memories of the brutal workouts Schmidt put them through. We’ve collated some of the best reactions for you to enjoy.

Redskins re-sign CB Aaron Colvin to add depth to roster

The Redskins have brought back 28-year-old cornerback Aaron Colvin, who played in six games in 2019.

The Washington Redskins added some depth to their cornerback room on Thursday afternoon by re-signing Aaron Colvin to the roster.

The 28-year-old played his first season with the Redskins in 2019, where he appeared in six games and had 10 tackles, and one pass defended. Colvin will now return to the roster in Washington to add some much-needed depth. At the top, the Redskins will be able to rely on Kendall Fuller and Ronald Darby to hopefully start games strongly, but Colvin will now slot in next to Fabian Moreau, Jimmy Moreland, and Danny Johnson.

Coach Ron Rivera has a strong reputation with cornerbacks, and he has always been able to get the best from his players, such as Josh Norman and James Bradberry. We will see if the same can be true for Colvin as well.

The Redskins have signed former Oklahoma cornerback Aaron Colvin.

The 28-year-old appeared in six games for Washington last season, starting in two and earning himself another year with the team. He finished the season with 10 tackles and one pass break up.

The team faces uncertainty at the cornerback position with the losses of starters Josh Norman and Quinton Dunbar, and re-adding Colvin is a possible way to shore up a depleted unit. Ron Rivera, who coached the Panthers from 2011 to 2019, is now the coach of the Redskins.

Colvin played in 50 total games in his four years with Oklahoma, amassing 170 total solo tackles and finishing with 15 tackles for loss. He also grabbed five interceptions.

He spent the first four years of his professional career with Jacksonville, starting 15 games in 2015 and eventually earning himself a contract with the Texans. After a couple bad performances, Colvin was dropped by Houston and acquired by Washington shortly after.

Despite not having much opportunity for the Redskins last year, he could see an increased role with the team’s shift at his position.
