Vikings sign CB A.J. Green III to futures contract

The Minnesota Vikings announced Tuesday that they have signed former Cleveland Browns CB A.J. Green III to a futures contract.

A busy offseason for the Minnesota Vikings continues, as the team announced Tuesday that they have signed former Cleveland Browns cornerback A.J. Green III to a futures contract.

Green had been with the Browns since entering the league in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State. During his time with the Browns, Green appeared in 29 games, making two starts and coming away with two interceptions during his four seasons in Cleveland.

Green has great size for the position, coming in at 6’2″ and nearly 200 pounds, and should provide the Vikings with some much-needed depth at the position. Minnesota has a lot of questions going into the 2024 season, and not much cap flexibility to address them, so signing a guy with potential like Green can help mitigate those concerns.

Minnesota is still likely to address the cornerback position further, whether that comes through free agency or the NFL draft, as Green isn’t likely to be a player who is going to make a sizeable contribution, but rather provides competition in camp and may provide depth in the event of an injury.

With the signing of Green, the Vikings now have 13 players signed to futures contracts.

CB A.J. Green III says goodbye to Browns, city of Cleveland

After four years in Cleveland, the cornerback is off to Minnesota

After signing a futures deal with the Minnesota Vikings, cornerback A.J. Green III has said his goodbyes to the Cleveland Browns.

Green signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State after the 2020 NFL draft. He would then become a staple on the active roster for three years, where he even contributed and started games for the Browns. He racked up two career interceptions in that time. This year, however, he did not make the active roster and was signed back to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

His time in Cleveland, however, is now over as he is off to Minnesota. He is not leaving without saying goodbye though, taking to social media to send out his love for Cleveland and the Browns:

“Thankful for the Last 4 Years in Cleveland   I appreciate the Fans, Front Office, Coaches, and Players I established a relationship with over the years!”

Best of luck to Green as his time in brown and orange has come to a close.

Browns’ 55-man roster vs. Rams as Joe Flacco, A.J. Green III elevated from practice squad

The Browns have elevated two as Joe Flacco and A.J. Green III will suit up against the Rams. Here is their gameday roster.

The Cleveland Browns are looking to get back on track after a loss a week ago. Sitting at 7-4 on the season, they are in Los Angeles for a business trip against the Rams, who sit at 5-6. Leading up to the matchup, however, the Browns elevated two from the practice squad as quarterback Joe Flacco will start, and cornerback A.J. Green III will help fill in for the absence of Denzel Ward.

If the Browns find a way to advance to 8-4 on the season, they will become the first team since the 2015 Houston Texans to win games with four different quarterbacks in the same season. They will also see their playoff probability skyrocket to 87 percent as well with a win over the Rams.

Here are all 55 active players on the Browns’ roster after the elevation of Flacco and Green III. Cleveland’s inactives list will drop 90 minutes before gametime as we will find out who will not dress in this game at that time.

Browns: A.J. Green III returns to the practice squad after going unclaimed

After clearing waivers, A.J. Green III is back on the practice squad

While he initially made the initial 53-man roster, the Cleveland Browns then waived cornerback A.J. Green III after claiming another cornerback in Kahlef Hailassie off of waivers. Now, Green III has cleared waivers after his release and has returned to the Browns to fill their last practice squad slot.

Initially joining the Browns as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL draft out of Oklahoma State, Green III made the active roster for the first three years of his career. However, after the team signed special teams ace Mike Ford Jr. and drafted another cornerback in Cameron Mitchell this past offseason, Green III was phased off the roster.

A member of the Browns, Green III has spot-started for the team as their cornerback room continues to deal with ongoing injuries. In case of an injury in the cornerback room, Green III will be the first players signed back to the active roster off of the practice squad.

Browns waive CB A.J. Green III after claiming Kahlef Hailassie off of waivers

After three years in Cleveland, A.J. Green III is off the roster.

After three seasons with the team, cornerback A.J. Green III has been waived by the Cleveland Browns. This comes after the Browns were awarded another cornerback in Kahlef Hailassie after he was cut from the Kansas City Chiefs.

For Green III, he has put together a solid career after going undrafted out of Oklahoma State following the 2020 NFL draft. He has spot-started games for the Browns, found time in the slot, and has been a solid special teams contributor in Cleveland.

Green III has the makings of a player the Browns will want back on their practice squad. It is to be seen if a player with Green’s experience will clear waivers, however.

After waiving Green III, the Browns are back down to six cornerbacks on the roster with Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome II, Martin Emerson Jr., Mike Ford Jr., rookie fifth rounder Cameron Mitchell, and the newly added Hailassie.

3 Likely cut candidates if Browns make moves on waivers

Who could still be cut to make room for a waiver wire add?

The Cleveland Browns have announced their initial 53-man roster including defensive backs A.J. Green III and Ronnie Hickman. However, do not expect this roster to be even close to their Week 1 roster as players will hit Injured Reserve, Michael Dunn and Maurice Hurst II will return after those IR placements clear roster spots, and the Browns still have the waiver wire to peruse.

This means some players currently on the roster could still be cut from the active roster to make room for any player added to the roster from waivers. Who are the most likely to find themselves at the bottom of the roster in this case?

Here are three candidates who could get the ax to make room for a waiver wire add.

3 players who could follow Joshua Dobbs and be traded before cutdowns

These players could follow Josh Dobbs out of town for future draft assets

General manager Andrew Berry is no stranger to trading players for future draft picks as Thursday he traded backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs to the Arizona Cardinals. Dobbs was a player that the Cleveland Browns might have cut after the emergence of Dorian Thompson-Robinson this preseason. So could there be more players that Berry could trade to get something from them instead of cutting them for nothing?

The offensive line is very deep and they won’t be able to keep all of them so a player from this group could be traded for a day three pick makes sense. Here are the three players I think are the most likely to be traded if Berry decides to move someone else in the manner he did with Dobbs.

CB A.J. Green III leaves game with shoulder injury vs. Commanders

He will not return.

Cleveland Browns cornerback A.J. Green III walked into the locker room with an injury before halftime during their preseason game against the Washington Commanders (according to Chris Easterling). Green suffered a shoulder injury and will not return to the preseason game.

Green is entering his third year with the Browns after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He has played well when he has had the opportunity. Hopefully, Green’s injury is minor. The Browns will need all the cornerback depth they can get to reign in the passing offenses in the AFC.
