49ers inactives: Arik Armstead good to go vs. Eagles

Arik Armstead is ACTIVE for the #49ers vs. the Eagles.

The 49ers will have their full starting defensive line for their NFC championship game rematch vs. the Eagles. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead, who was listed as questionable with a foot injury, will suit up Sunday after not being listed among the team’s inactives in Philadelphia.

Here’s who won’t play for the 49ers:

QB Brandon Allen (QB3)
WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib)
LB Jalen Graham
RB Tyrion Davis-Price
DL Robert Beal Jr.
TE Brayden Willis
OL Ben Bartch

Running back Jordan Mason was questionable with a hamstring injury and was not among the inactives so he’ll play as well.

McCloud’s absence is a big one. He’s held down the kick and punt return jobs all season. Those spots may now go to rookie WR Ronnie Bell.

49ers roster moves: WR and S added from practice squad before Eagles game

What we can take away from the #49ers’ Saturday roster moves:

The 49ers on Saturday announced a pair of roster moves ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Eagles in Philadelphia. Wide receiver Chris Conley and safety Erik Harris were elevated from the practice squad.

Conley’s elevation is a sign that Ray-Ray McCloud’s rib injury isn’t trending the right direction. He’s listed as questionable after only getting a limited practice in Friday.

Harris joined the 49ers’ practice squad ahead of Week 13 and will make his debut Sunday. He’ll provide depth at safety after the injuries to George Odum and Talanoa Hufanga. Harris also figures to contribute heavily on special teams with Odum out.

That San Francisco didn’t elevate one of their three practice squad. defensive lineman is a good sign for Arik Armstead who is questionable with a foot injury. He also missed Wednesday and Thursday before suiting up Friday for a limited session.

49ers injury report: Arik Armstead among 3 questionable vs. Eagles

The #49ers Week 13 injury report is here for the Eagles game:

The 49ers on Friday released their injury report for Week 13 and participation for the final practice of the week.

San Francisco will have three players listed as questionable, but there was a mixed bag of good and bad news from their participation report.

Let’s look at both before the 49ers’ showdown with the Eagles in Philadelphia:

Christian McCaffrey nearing record matched only by 2 Hall of Famers

If you can believe it, 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is on the brink of some NFL history:

In perhaps the least shocking news of the week leading up to the 49ers and Eagles NFC championship game rematch, 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is approaching NFL history.

One week after he set the 49ers franchise record for rushing touchdowns when he posted his 11th of the season in a Week 12 win over the Seahawks, McCaffrey will have a chance to once again etch his name into the NFL history books.

Per the NFL, “with a rushing touchdown on Sunday, McCaffrey will join Pro Football Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and Lenny Moore as the only players in NFL history with at least 50 rushing touchdowns and 25 touchdown receptions.”

McCaffrey has 49 rushing touchdowns and 27 receiving touchdowns in his career. Saints RB Alvin Kamara is also on the cusp of those 50/25 benchmarks. He’s at 51 rushing touchdowns and 23 receiving scores.

Last season McCaffrey was responsible for the 49ers’ lone touchdown in the NFC championship game when he scored on a brilliant run that featured a slew of broken tackles.

With rain prominently in the forecast, McCaffrey figures to play a big role for the 49ers on Sunday in Philadelphia. Given that he has touchdowns in 18 of his last 19 games, it may be more surprising if he doesn’t snag a rushing TD than if he does. Either way, McCaffrey will join Faulk and Moore in the 50/25 club sooner than later.

49ers preparing for Eagles ‘tush push’ by not practicing it

How are the #49ers going to prepare for the Eagles’ tush push? Not by practicing it:

The Philadelphia Eagles have mastered the art of the quarterback sneak by getting their offensive line low and using players lined up behind QB Jalen Hurts to shove him forward through the carnage left by the collision up front. It’s a play that’s earned them countless additional sets of downs and touchdowns. The San Francisco 49ers will need to be ready to defend it when they visit the Eagles on Sunday, but they’re preparing for it by not practicing against it.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan on Wednesday talked about the so called “tush push” and how the 49ers are coaching to defend that play.

“You just coach it up, tell them where we want guys and stuff,” Shanahan said. “We’re not going to spend a lot of time on it, but we’re going to talk about it, show it, and do as good as we can.”

Ideally the 49ers would keep the Eagles out of third and fourth and short, but those plays will inevitably happen. Surely they’ll watch film on the play and try to come up with solutions based on the failures of other clubs, but it’s a dangerous enough play that practicing it is out of the question.

“We’re going to do like 10 live reps of it today and see if we have anybody left after it,” Shanahan joked. “No, you don’t practice it.”

Hurts and the Eagles have mastered that play, and in a game that’s sure to be close between two of the NFC’s Goliaths, the 49ers’ potential solutions for it could be the difference between a win and loss.

49ers vs. Eagles: Almost all of US will get NFC championship rematch on TV

The #49ers and Eagles TV map shows the NFC championship rematch is almost a national TV game.

49ers fans located outside the Bay Area shouldn’t have a hard time getting the 49ers-Eagles NFC championship rematch on TV.

Fox held onto the showdown between the NFC’s top two teams and essentially turned it into a national television game.

There are only three total games in the late window in Week 13, and one of them – Panthers at Buccaneers – is on CBS. The other Fox game is the Browns-Rams showdown in Los Angeles. That game will only be televised in the LA and Cleveland markets. Everywhere else in the country will get 49ers-Eagles. The broadcast map provided by 506 Sports is almost comical:

In case it was unclear, 49ers-Eagles will be shown in the red areas of the map. Rams-Browns is in blue. There’s also a tiny blackout exception in Tampa Bay on the western coast of Florida.

Other than that everybody will be able to view a dynamite NFC championship rematch on their local Fox station.

49ers, Eagles top 2 in USA TODAY NFL power rankings heading into monster showdown

It’s the Eagles and 49ers atop the USA TODAY Sports power rankings just in time for their Week 13 showdown in Philly.

There may not be a better illustration of the stakes in the 49ers and Eagles Week 13 matchup at Lincoln Financial Field than where both teams sit in the USA TODAY NFL power rankings.

Philadelphia is still sitting atop the rankings where they’ve been since Week 7. They’ve climbed to that spot by outlasting teams like the 49ers, Chiefs and Cowboys. While other clubs have slipped up, the Eagles have managed to grind out wins to sit at 10-1 after 12 weeks.

Just behind them at No. 2 are the San Francisco 49ers. USA TODAY Sports’ Nate Davis, who authors the power rankings, never dropped the 49ers very far during their three-game losing skid, but they’ve quickly climbed back up to No. 2 after a brief flirtation with falling out of the top five.

The Eagles are the 49ers’ biggest obstacle at this point. They kept the 49ers out of the Super Bowl last year, and now San Francisco making the Super Bowl this year may come down to whether they can snag the No. 1 seed away from Philadelphia. To do that they’ll need a victory Sunday, and then some help after that.

This entire season though has felt like a crash course to an NFC championship rematch between the Eagles and 49ers. They’re the two best teams in the NFL through 12 weeks and Sunday’s game will go a long way toward determining which team would have homefield advantage should they meet up again in the NFC title game.

Deebo Samuel doesn’t regret calling Eagles CB trash

Deebo Samuel doesn’t regret calling an Eagles CB “trash.”

49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel wasn’t shy about taking shots at the Eagles after his team’s blowout loss to Philadelphia in the NFC championship game. Now ahead of their Week 13 rematch he’s doubling down on those comments.

During a media tour that included a slew of comments about the Eagles, Samuel made a stop on the ‘I Am Athlete’ podcast where former Eagles RB LeSean McCoy asked him about the Eagles defense. That prompted Samuel to say that Eagles Second-Team All-Pro cornerback James Bradberry is “trash.”

Samuel was asked about that comment Monday when the team was back in the facility to begin their preparations for Week 13.

“I don’t regret nothing I said,” Samuel told Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle in a video posted by NBC Sports Bay Area.

Samuel even took to Twitter when Bradberry was flagged for a crucial holding penalty late in the Eagles Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs.

The 49ers are publicly saying they’re treating Week 13 like any other game.

Given the recent history though and the verbal sparring that’s taken place in the 10-ish months since the NFC championship game, it’s hard to believe there wont’ be a little extra juice from both teams on Sunday.

49ers open as favorites at Philadelphia

The 49ers opened as favorites in Philly.

The 49ers are the No. 2 seed in the NFC and two games back of the Philadelphia Eagles heading into their Week 12 NFC rematch at Lincoln Financial Field. San Francisco, despite being two games worse and visiting from the opposite coast, opened as 1.5-point favorites over the Eagles according to BetMGM.

There’s no guarantee the line will stay in the 49ers’ favor, but it’s not a huge surprise they opened as the favorite. They’ll be coming off 10 days rest while the Eagles will be coming off a hard-fought overtime win over the Bills.

The 49ers have also been more dominant in their wins this year despite a stretch of play in the middle of the season where they were demonstrably worse.

Sunday’s game in Philadelphia should be a good one though as evidenced by the tight line. It’s unlikely that line will inflate in either direction. Both teams are very good and coming off a big wins. Vegas is expecting a close one, and that’s probably the safest bet to make.

Report: Eagles vs. 49ers won’t be flexed to Sunday Night Football in Week 13

The NFC Championship rematch reportedly won’t be flexed into primetime.

One of the most highly-anticipated games of the NFL season is slated for Week 13 when the San Francisco 49ers head to The City of Brotherly Love for a rematch of the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Although the Eagles and 49ers matchup will boast a long list of storylines coming off their battle in last season’s NFC Championship game, the Week 13 contest reportedly won’t headline primetime.

According to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area, 49ers vs. Eagles isn’t expected to be flexed to Sunday Night Football. Instead, the matchup will stay with Fox in the 1:25 p.m. PT time slot. Fox is able to protect one game on their network each week from being flexed.

Via @MaioccoNBCS on Twitter:

In January, the 49ers suffered a 31-7 loss to the Eagles in the NFC Championship after Brock Purdy had to leave the game due to an elbow injury.

Barring a flex to another game in Week 13, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Lambeau Field for a Sunday Night Football contest against the Green Bay Packers.
