San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s San Francisco 49ers at Atlanta Falcons odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Francisco 49ers (3-2) visit the Atlanta Falcons (2-3) in an inter-divisional NFC matchup Sunday. Kickoff from Mercedes-Benz Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the 49ers vs. Falcons odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The 49ers are rolling heading into this game, winning their last 2 games and looking like one of the strongest defenses in the league.

Since QB Jimmy Garoppolo has been starting – due to QB Trey Lance’s season-ending injury in Week 2 – the 49ers have gone 3-1. The loss in that stretch was an 11-10 setback in a defensive Sunday Night Football matchup at Denver in Week 3.

Garoppolo is completing 60.7% of his passes (65 of 107 attempts) for 857 yards and 5 TDs to only 1 interception.

Atlanta is looking to bounce back after suffering a tough 21-15 defeat vs. divisional opponent Tampa Bay last Sunday.

The Falcons will be looking to string together some wins vs. strong opponents. All 3 of their losses have been in one-score games – 27-26 at home to the Saints in the season opener, 31-27 to the Rams in Week 2 and the recent 6-point loss to the Bucs.

QB Marcus Mariota has completed 57.7% of his passes (71 of 123 attempts) for 926 yards and 4 TDs to 4 interceptions.

49ers at Falcons picks and predictions

Prediction

49ers 21, Falcons 10

Moneyline

AVOID

San Francisco (-220) is too heavy of a favorite for me to feel comfortable advising anyone to make this bet. The risk isn’t worth the reward and many of us understand that blowouts are very rare in the NFL. While I do believe the 49ers will win this game, I wouldn’t advise betting the moneyline here.

Against the spread

BET 49ERS -4.5 (-110).

The 49ers are simply better than the Falcons, which is why I believe this is your BEST BET.

The 49ers have the best run defense in the league, allowing 249.2 rushing yards per game. The Falcons are missing their best running back and one of their key linemen and they will have virtually no running game.

The Atlanta passing game is not terrible, but whether or not Pitts plays, will be key. With the 49ers only having one major offensive injury, they should be able to cover the spread in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 45.5 (-115). I expect this to be a low-scoring game, which is why I would say this bet is your second best.

When fully healthy, the Falcons have proven that they can put up 20+ points fairly consistently, but that won’t be the case come Sunday. Not only are they not healthy, but they’re also playing against a strong defense for the 2nd week in a row.

Playing at home should help the Falcons, but it won’t be enough for them to score a lot of points. The 49ers have a strong offense, but it isn’t spectacular, which is why UNDER 45.5 (-115) should be a fairly safe bet.
