Trevor Lawrence is only QB on PFF’s list of top 25 players under 25

Trevor Lawrence is the only quarterback on PFF’s 25 under 25.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence isn’t the best player in the NFL under the age of 25, according to Pro Football Focus, but he does reign supreme among the league’s youngest quarterbacks.

In a ranking of the top 25 players in the NFL under 25, Lawrence landed No. 18 on the list and was the only quarterback to earn a spot. Via PFF:

“Lawrence struggled during his rookie season, earning a 58.3 passing grade. But this past year (with an established NFL head coach), he jumped to a 74.1 passing grade. He finished with 26 big-time throws, 19 turnover-worth plays and a 77.7% adjusted completion percentage. It was a step in the right direction, one that allowed his arrow to continue pointing up with improvement still possible in all areas.”

The list only includes players who will still be 24 or younger when Week 1 of the 2023 regular season begins. That ruled out Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers and Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins, who both turned 25 in March, as well as Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, who turns 25 in August.

That didn’t leave much competition for Lawrence. Davis Mills of the Houston Texans and Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears are the only 2022 starters who will still be younger than 25 when next season begins.

The top spot on the list went to the Dallas Cowboys’ two-time All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons with Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, as runner-up.

Several former Tigers crack CBS Sports ’25 under 25′ NFL rankings

There are a lot of young stars in the league who played at LSU during their college careers.

LSU may have taken a bit of a nosedive on the gridiron over the last two seasons, but this is still a program less than three years removed from a national title.

A number of stars from that team — and other former Tigers drafted in a similar timeframe — have had very nice starts to their professional careers, and there is a solid cohort of young players who played in Baton Rouge during their college days.

CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin recently put out his “25 under 25” rankings for the NFL entering 2022, and there were a number of LSU standouts to crack the list. Here’s where each of them stands.

Chiefs C Creed Humphrey lands on PFF’s top 25 players under 25 list for 2022

PFF has identified #Chiefs C Creed Humphrey as one of the 25 best NFL players under the age of 25.

Pro Football Focus’ annual list naming their top 25 NFL players under 25 has been released.

The 2022 edition of the list features Chiefs C Creed Humphrey as one of the top players in the NFL under the age of 25, listed at No. 16. Humphrey dominated his rookie campaign, posting a season that had him ranked as the best at his position in the analytics world. He also earned a grade that ranked him among the top-5 offensive linemen in the league regardless of position.

Here is what PFF’s Trevor Sikkema had to say about the second-year sensation out of Oklahoma:

Humphrey’s rookie campaign was sensational. He played the most snaps of any rookie offensive lineman (1,184) and notched the best grade, too (91.4). In fact, his elite overall grade was fourth-highest for all offensive linemen and first among all centers. He and fellow rookie Trey Smith were a big reason the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line was as improved as it was in 2021.

Humphrey will be 23 years old to start the 2022 NFL season. With another great season under his belt, he could find himself on this list again next season too. The Chiefs didn’t have a single player on this list entering the 2021 NFL season, but after a 2022 NFL draft class loaded with young talent, look for more players from Kansas City to land on this list in 2023.

The Chiefs have had a great history of success with players who previously made this list such as Chris Jones, Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes. Let’s hope that Humphrey follows in their footsteps.

Youth is served: Cowboys’ under-25 young guns rank among NFL best

The future is bright for the Cowboys, who land three players on this list of the top 25 players under the age of 25 across the NFL. | From @ToddBrock24f7

It’s been famously said that “youth is wasted on the young.” But George Bernard Shaw was a curmudgeonly old man when he said it, and it’s painfully obvious that the Irish author never had the opportunity to watch today’s crop of astonishingly-gifted-but-fresh-faced athletes ply their trade on the gridiron.

While modern fans always marvel at the agelessness of the Tom Bradys, Jason Wittens, and Adam Vinatieris of the 21st century NFL, they are the exceptions. Pro football remains, by and large, a young man’s game.

And while the 2022 rookie class is eager to make their mark on the league when the season kicks off in September, it’s worth taking a look at the players who were in their cleats not that long ago.

Pro Football Focus has put together a list of the top 25 players who will still be under age 25 when the upcoming season begins. The Cowboys appear to have a solid foundation on which to build their future; they have three players on the list. (Only Tampa Bay can say the same, and just three other teams are represented more than once.)

Irish in the NFL: Quenton Nelson named to ESPN’s 25 under 25

Former Notre Dame Irish guard Quenton Nelson was named to ESPN’s all 25-under-25 team.

Former Notre Dame offensive lineman Quenton Nelson was the only offensive lineman named to ESPN writer Mike Clay’s 25 under 25 team – a list of the 25 best players in the league who are age 25 or younger.

Nelson has had an incredible start to his NFL career as the starting left guard for the Indianapolis Colts, where he was drafted sixth overall in the 2018 draft.

Nelson immediately took over as a starter for the Colts, and has played all but one offensive snap in the last two years.

He was a Pro Bowler and a first team All-Pro in his rookie season, but amazingly he’s playing even better in year two.

Here’s an excerpt from Clay’s article, where Nelson came in at No. 5.

The lone offensive lineman on our list, Nelson has been the driving force for the emergence of the Colts’ line as one of the league’s best units. The Notre Dame product has been on the field for all but one of Indianapolis’ offensive snaps since he was selected with the sixth pick of the 2018 draft. His 94.1% pass block win rate ranked 11th among guards during his rookie season and sits at 93.7% (11th best) this season.

Nelson was named to the Pro Bowl and was a first-team All-Pro during an outstanding rookie season, and he’s on track for significantly more award recognition over the next decade.

Nelson starred at Notre Dame from 2014-2017, and was named an All-American in his final season with the Irish. He has a chance to be one of the best offensive linemen in the league, and perhaps of all-time, if he keeps this pace up.
