Which Alabama recruiting targets, commits are scheduled to face off during 2023 High School Football Season?

Roll Tide Wire breaks down which Alabama recruiting targets and commits will be facing one another during the 2023 High School Football Season.

Alabama has been hot on the recruiting trail over the past two months. The Crimson Tide landed two commitments in June and eight commitments in July. Not to mention, August has been welcoming to Alabama thus far. The Crimson Tide have landed three commitments in 17 days.

Alabama is constantly recruiting. During the regular season, members of Alabama’s coaching staff travel to watch commits and targets from all across the United States.

With the Crimson Tide recruiting nationwide, it is sometimes more difficult for the coaches to attend games. Nonetheless, the season will be long enough for the staff to continue to build relationships whether it be in person or over the phone.

Today, Roll Tide Wire takes breaks down which Alabama targets and commits are scheduled to face off during the 2023 season. In all likelihood, Alabama will have several of its coaches in attendance.

Oklahoma Sooners 2025 four-star TE target Nate Roberts decommits from Notre Dame

Oklahoma four-star TE target Nate Roberts decommits from Notre Dame followed by a flurry of predictions favoring the Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners haven’t been shy about the need to improve their tight end depth. Injuries to 2022 signees [autotag]Kaden Helms[/autotag] and [autotag]Jason Llewellyn[/autotag] have put a dent in the tight end depth chart of the future.

Position coach Joe Jon Finley and the group gained a boost in the 2024 recruiting cycle when [autotag]Davon Mitchell[/autotag] committed and reclassified. He’ll joining the Sooners next year and could be a five-star prospect by national signing day.

But the position needs more talent. Oklahoma received some encouraging news on that front. 2025 four-star tight end target [autotag]Nate Roberts[/autotag] decommitted from Notre Dame Tuesday morning.

“I have made the decision to decommit from the University of Notre Dame,” Roberts posted on his social media profile. “I want to thank coach Freeman, coach Parker and Chad Bowden for the opportunity and wish them and the Fighting Irish the best going forward.

Roberts is a top five player in the state of Oklahoma, the No. 61 player overall in the 247Sports 2025 rankings and a top five player at the position.

Last week SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuistion issued a prediction flip favoring the Oklahoma Sooners in Roberts’ recruitment. That felt like a foreshadowing of what happened today in Roberts pulling his pledge to the Fighting Irish.

The talented in-state prospect had only been committed to Notre Dame since June. Now it looks like the Sooners are homing in on adding another blue chip prospect to their rapidly growing [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag].

Roberts holds 31 offers, including 27 from Power Five programs. Ten are from SEC schools, including Georgia, Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

Soon after the Notre Dame decommitment a flurry of predictions dropped favoring the Sooners. On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Rivals Clint Cosgrove and OUInsider at Rivals Parker Thune each put in picks for the Sooners.

5 reasons Alabama fans should not be concerned about Alabama football recruiting

Many Alabama fans have become concerned as to the Crimson Tide’s current 2024 recruiting rankings. Here are five reasons why Alabama fans should not be concerned.

The recruiting trail never sleeps. When one cycle is over, the next one begins. Because of this, patience is required by everyone involved, including fans of programs that are chasing after the top prospect from across the nation.

The Alabama coaching staff takes time to develop relationships, evaluate the prospects and determine if they are a fit for the program. That has been the general checklist Alabama has followed since 2006 when Nick Saban was hired.

It has proven successful and will continue to be successful with Saban at the helm.

Roll Tide Wire lists five reasons Alabama fans should not be concerned about Alabama football recruiting.

Sooners pick up a pair of predictions for Jaden Nickens, who sets commitment date

Oklahoma earned two more predictions for 2024 four-star WR Jaden Nickens out of Millwood High in Oklahoma City, who set his commitment date.

Less than a month from the start of the 2023 season, the Oklahoma Sooners keep pushing to add talent across the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes. Getting a head start on 2025, the Sooners already have four players committed to join Oklahoma in a year and a half.

After picking up a commitment from 2024 four-star wide receiver and in-state product Elijah Thomas last week, Oklahoma is trending for another blue chip WR from the Sooner State, Jaden Nickens.

The Sooners picked up a pair of predictions from Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop and On3 and Brandon Drumm of OUInsider and Rivals on Saturday. Those predictions continue to roll in, with Collin Kennedy of Sooners Illustrated and 247Sports and Parker Thune of OUInsider issuing picks favoring the Sooners.

At this point, it seems all that’s left to do is get the commitment. And now we know what day Jaden Nickens will be making his pledge.

The four-star wide receiver prospect out of Millwood High School in Oklahoma City plans to commit on August 12.

According to On3, Nickens holds Power Five offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and TCU.

At 6-foot-3 entering his junior year, Nickens brings great size to go with good breakaway speed. He’s an impact blocker in the run game, putting cornerbacks on their backs, allowing running backs to pick up big plays.

He does a lot of good work in the wide receiver screen game and has a good idea of how to use the blockers on the play to gain extra yards. He’s a physical player that will break tackles in the open field but also has the agility to make defenders miss.

To say that Emmett Jones is on a role would be an understatement. With what he’s done on the recruiting trail, it’s no surprise to see Oklahoma trending for yet another wide receiver.

If the Sooners were to get a commitment from Nickens, he would be their third in the class, joining [autotag]Gracen Harris[/autotag] and [autotag]Elijah Thoma[/autotag]s and it would represent the 10th wide receiver commitment since Jones took the job in January.

LOOK: Alabama football sends out recruiting graphics to elite prospects

With the contact period opening up for 2025 prospects, the Alabama graphics team has sent out a slew of recruiting graphics. Follow along to see who Alabama has reached out to thus far!

Monday was a big day for both 2024 and 2025 recruits. Why? College coaches are now allowed to contact high school juniors and extend official offers to high school seniors.

The Alabama graphics team began to send out recruiting graphics at midnight on Aug. 1. The contact period window opened up for college coaches to be able to communicate with 2025 prospects via phone call, text, or by email.

Several Alabama targets have received official offers on Tuesday, Aug. 1st as well.

Roll Tide Wire takes a closer look at which 2024 and 2025 prospects have been contacted or offered by the Alabama coaching staff.

Sooners get two predictions for 4-Star in-state wide receiver

Emmett Jones continues his hot streak on the recruiting trail with two predictions for talented four-star Oklahoma wide receiver.

We’ve talked about how hot the Oklahoma Sooners football recruiting has been the last month, whether it’s the 2024 class or the 2025 class.

A big reason for that has been the absolute roll new wide receiver coach Emmett Jones has been on.

He’s landed seven combined wide receivers in the 2024 and 2025 classes as of now.

As to why he’s been so successful recruiting since joining the staff, his answer was short and sweet and something Sooner fans will love to hear.

“I feel like I can recruit against anybody with this logo,” Emmett Jones said at OU Football media day Tuesday.

But he’s not stopping anytime soon. The Sooners received two predictions for 2025 four-star wide receiver Jaden Nickens.

Brandon Drumm of OUInsider at Rivals and Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop at On3 both issued predictions favoring the Oklahoma Sooners for the talented in-state prospect.

Nickens is a talented wide receiver who plays at Millwood High School in Oklahoma City.

He’s also a big-time basketball recruit with a few Division 1 offers. He’s a big athletic wide receiver standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 170 pounds.

The next question is, could a commitment be coming soon? It’s something he might have hinted at.

But for now, we have to wait and see.

  • Oklahoma appears to be the favorite with two of the three recruiting sites issuing predictions for Jaden Nickens to end up with Oklahoma.

Sooners pick up another prediction to land 2025 4-star LB Christian Thatcher

Second prediction favors the Oklahoma Sooners for 2025 four-star linebacker Christian Thatcher.

Coming out of a week that featured a pair of recruiting events, the Oklahoma Sooners have a ton of momentum in both the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes.

After “Sooners under the Stars,” the Sooners picked up a pair of commitments in the 2025 cycle and are gaining steam for another 2025 prospect; linebacker Christian Thatcher.

First, it was Josh McCusition of SoonerScoop and On3 who issued a prediction favoring the Sooners for Thatcher. Now it’s OUInsider and Rivals recruiting analyst Brandon Drumm favoring the Sooners with a FutureCast of his own on Monday afternoon.

Thatcher is considered a four-star prospect according to 247Sports and On3 and is the No. 131 player in the 247Sports rankings for the 2025 class.

It’s clear the Sooners struck the right chord with Thatcher and his family last week and are building toward a commitment.

While it’s still early in the 2025 recruiting cycle, the Sooners are working ahead of schedule relative to the 2023 and 2024 recruiting classes.

The Sooners have four commitments to their class with Kevin Sperry, Gracen Harris, Ka’Mori Moore, and Elijah Thomas pledged to the 2025 class. If the predictions hold, it looks like Christian Thatcher will be heading to Norman in 2025.

Alabama MBB offers 2025 SF Will Riley

The Alabama coaching staff extended its latest offer to 2025 small forward Will Riley on Thursday.

Alabama’s coaching staff extended its latest offer to 2025 small forward Will Riley.

Riley, a Canadian native, has already received 15 offers. Several of the programs that have offered Riley thus far are Arkansas, Arizona, Oregon, and Villanova.

Riley is the fourth small forward that Alabama has offered in the 2025 recruiting cycle. The coaching staff prefers to recruit forwards that can play positionless basketball. Riley seems to fit that profile.

Riley is listed at 6-foot-7 and 180 pounds. With his size, he can play multiple different positions on the floor. He can also shoot and rebound at a high level.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Will Riley’s recruiting profile.

On3 prediction favors Oklahoma for 2025 LB Christian Thatcher

The Oklahoma Sooners earned an On3 prediction from SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuistion for 2025 four-star linebacker Christian Thatcher.

The 2025 recruiting class is off to a fast and furious start. This week alone, the Sooners picked up two more commitments and appear to be leading the pack for another blue chip prospect.

On Friday, Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop and On3 issued a prediction favoring the Sooners for four-star linebacker Christian Thatcher.

Thatcher is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, and ranks as the No. 5 player in the state. He’s a consensus top 250 player in the nation and ranks as the No. 131 prospect in the 247Sports 2025 rankings.

According to 247Sports, Thatcher had 133 tackles (single season record), 13 tackles for loss, and an interception in 11 games for Arbor View High School in 2022. A top 20 linebacker in the class, Thatcher brings a mix of power and speed that will make him a terror at the second level of the defense.  He was a first-team all-state selection last season.

Thatcher does a great job reading the defense and getting downhill in the running game. He displays the ability to knife through the line of scrimmage and get to the running back in the backfield. He has the speed to stretch the play wide and chase down ball carriers in backside pursuit.

The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to build upon a deep group of linebackers added through the 2022, 2023, and 2024 classes with a talented playmaker who could play middle linebacker, weakside, or even the cheetah for the Sooners.

Christian Thatcher’s Recruiting Profile

Projections

  • Sooners are the heavy favorite according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, which includes McCuistion’s prediction.
