2025 5-star safety and Oregon commit will attend Texas A&M vs. New Mexico State

2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt will join 5-star OL Lamont Rogers in College Station today

Texas A&M (7-2, 5-1 SEC) will host New Mexico State (2-7) on Saturday night before taking on Auburn and Texas to finish out the 2024 regular season. On paper, the home Aggies are big favorites against the road Aggies, but these are only numbers.

While this isn’t A&M’s final home game of the year, head coach Mike Elko and his staff will honor 26 veteran during Senior Night, which will include junior defensive end Nic Scourton, who will more than likely enter the NFL draft after one season with the program.

This is also a big weekend on the recruiting trail, as On3’s Steve Wiltfong has confirmed that 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt, who committed to Oregon in early August, is back in College Station this weekend and will attend the game on Saturday night.

This is huge for the Elko coaching staff, who have been trying to get the Ohio native back to campus since his commitment to the Ducks. McNutt joins fellow 2025 5-star offensive tackle and Missouri commit Lamont Rogers, who is predicted to flip from the Aggies before National Signing Day on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

According to 247Sports, McNutt is currently positioned as the 61st-ranked porspect in the 2025 cycle, the 4th-ranked safety, and the 4th-ranked prospect in Ohio.

No. 15 Texas A&M will host New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 16. The game will air on SEC Network at 6:45 p.m. CT.

Is Texas A&M still a favorite to land 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt?

Is Texas A&M still the favorite to land 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt

Next Saturday,  5-star safety Trey McNutt, one of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle, will announce his commitment. After delaying his commitment, which was previously set for last week, he will choose between Florida, Ohio State, USC, Oregon, and Texas A&M.

On Thursday, McNutt visited Texas A&M for a second time after his official visit on June 13, making his delay a potential sign that the Aggies are now in the lead for his commitment, even though he is also coming off a return to Oregon just a day after leaving College Station.

So, less than a week before McNutt’s announcement, where do Mike Elko and his staff stand with the future superstar defender? Well, according to one of the top Aggie insiders, AggieYell’s (Rivals) Mark Passwaters agrees that A&M should be the front-runner after the commitment delay:

“The Aggies have put in quite an effort to sway McNutt over the past month and certainly seem to have the momentum in his recruitment” Passwaters stated. ” McNutt’s decision to delay his commitment until next week sure seemed to favor the Aggies, as does the prospect of his family moving to the Houston area. Add in another visit this week and it’s not hard to see why the Aggies would feel good about this one.”

While Texas A&M is likely neck and neck with the Oregon Ducks going into the week, I’d have to agree with Passwaters that his family’s potential move to the Houston area is subtle but important information that could play into his final decision.

On the field, McNutt is one of the top defensive playmakers in the country, recording 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season.

According to Rivals, McNutt is ranked 20th in the 2025 cycle, the second-ranked safety prospect, and the third-ranked prospect in Ohio. Rivals insider Landyn Rosow is currently the only site analyst to predict McNutt’s landing with Texas A&M.

2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt receives a warm welcome during his Texas A&M visit

Trey McNutt has arrived in College Station!

Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class is poised to continue growing in the coming months, starting with this weekend’s annual recruiting pool party, head coach Mike Elko’s first since taking over the program in November.

One of A&M’s high-priority prospects in the 2025 cycle who will visit this weekend is 5-star safety Trey McNutt. According to several analysts, he is down to Oregon and Texas A&M, which resulted in him moving his commitment date from last week to August 3rd.

On its face, this is the most critical visit of the weekend, as fellow 2025 5-star safety Jonah Williams is visiting the Texas Longhorns this weekend, which could be a sign of things to come.

Well, it’s safe to say Aggie fans in College Station are paying attention, as McNutt’s Thursday arrival included a warm welcome with a sign similar to when the Aggies welcomed current defensive end Nic Scourton.

On the field, McNutt is one of the top defensive playmakers in the country, recording 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season.

According to Rivals, McNutt is currently ranked 20th in the 2025 cycle, the 2nd-ranked safety prospect, and the third-ranked prospect in Ohio.

2025 5-star safety out of Cleveland (OH) will visit Texas A&M this weekend

Texas A&M will host a talented list of 2025 prospects this weekend, including 5-star safety Trey McNutt

Texas A&M’s annual recruiting pool party is just days away. New head football coach Mike Elko already has experience with the event during his three-year stint as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator from 2018-2021.

During former head coach Jim Fisher’s six-year reign, recruiting success was the norm, starting and ending with the pool party that continues to bring together prospects who have a chance to relax and discuss their potential playing future in College Station.

With 19 commitments in the 2025 recruiting class so far, Elko and his staff have their eyes on landing the top two safeties in the cycle, as 5-star safety Jonah Williams will announce his commitment on August 24. As of Wednesday, it was confirmed that 5-star safety Trey McNutt will reportedly visit Texas A&M this weekend, according to Rivals insider Landyn Rosow.

After moving his impending commitment announcement to August 3rd, this news seems significant. It provides Texas A&M’s coaching staff with a clear pathway to gaining his commitment and beating out the red-hot Oregon Ducks.

2025 5-star safety out of Shaker Heights (OH) will take an official visit to Texas A&M

Texas A&M will host one of the top safety prospects in the 2025 cycle this summer

Last weekend, Texas A&M’s campus was filled to the brim as the Aggies college baseball super regional took place, while Kyle Field played host to the Mexico vs. Brazil soccer match on Saturday night. However, Mike Elko and his staff also hosted a talented list of 2025 prospects.

While the program has continued to make significant progress with several high-profile recruits in the 2025 cycle, plenty of uncommitted talent remains, including five-star safety Trey McNutt out of Shaker Heights, Ohio, one of the premier playmakers in the country.

Back in April, McNutt released his top 8 program list, which included Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, USC, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. He’s already taken official visits to Florida and USC over the last couple of weeks.

On Tuesday, On3’s Chad Simmons further confirmed what Rival’s Landyn Rosow reported on Monday: McNutt has lined up two more official visits to Oregon and Texas A&M next weekend. Of course, this is a huge development for Elko heading into the thick of the summer, especially after losing out on 2025 four-star cornerback Caleb Chester to the Texas Longhorns.

On the field, McNutt recorded 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season

According to 247Sports, McNutt is currently ranked 23rd in the 2025 cycle, the No. 1 safety prospect, and the second-ranked prospect in Ohio.

Texas A&M is still in the running for 2025 5-star safety out of Cleveland (OH)

Texas A&M is visibly in the running for 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt according to a recent photo

In early April, it was revealed that 2025 five-star safety Trey McNutt placed Texas A&M in his Top 8 program list, joining Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, USC, and Ohio State. The versatile defender has received nearly 40 offers.

This week, more clarity was provided regarding McNutt’s relationship with every program he considers a finalist, including Texas A&M, as the incoming  Shaker Height HS senior was seen holding the hats of every finalist during his appearance with On3 Elite.

On the field, McNutt recorded 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season. McNutt is a consistent enough tackler with speed and length to excel in the nickel corner or strong safety position at the next level. Still, his elite athleticism could hit a solid future at wide receiver.

According to 247Sports, McNutt is currently positioned as the 23rd-ranked prospect in the 2025 cycle, the No. 1-ranked safety prospect, and the second-ranked prospect in Ohio.
