2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt has announced his commitment time

2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt will announce his commitment later this afternoon

Texas A&M’s 2025 class has another chance to steadily rise in the overall team rankings this weekend as one of the top defensive prospects in the cycle will announce his commitment on Saturday afternoon.

After delaying his announcement just a week ago, 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt is poised to choose between Texas A&M and Oregon and will also consider Ohio State, Florida, and USC. After taking his final two visits to College Station and Eugene last week, don’t count out the Buckeyes to potentially shock all of us.

After moving his commitment date, McNutt took to social media on Saturday morning to announce his official time, which is now set for 3:00 p.m. ET or 4:00 p.m. CT.

As Rivals’ Mark Passwaters noted last week, McNutt’s family is slated to move to the Houston area soon, which could put the Aggies in front after what was deemed a very successful campus visit last week with Mike Elko and his defensive staff.

On the field, McNutt is one of the top defensive playmakers in the country, recording 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season.

According to Rivals, McNutt is ranked 20th in the 2025 cycle, the second-ranked safety prospect, and the third-ranked prospect in Ohio. Rivals insider Landyn Rosow is the only site analyst who predicts McNutt’s landing with Texas A&M.

2025 5-star safety out of Cleveland (OH) has received a prediction to land with Texas A&M

2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt has received a new recruiting prediction

One of Texas A&M’s top 2025 recruiting targets has delayed his commitment. 5-star safety Trey McNutt will make his collegiate decision on Saturday, August 3rd. The elite defender will likely choose between the Aggies and the Oregon Ducks.

While Florida, Ohio State, and USC are also in the mix, it has been rumored that the reason for delaying his commitment could be Mike Elko and his staff’s last-minute push to combat Oregon’s NIL advantage. The Ducks have beaten out the Texas Longhorns for several 2025 prospects, including 5-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore.

According to Rivals recruiting insider Landyn Rosow, McNutt could be headed to College Station after all, as Rosow has submitted a prediction to land with the Aggies just weeks before his announcement.

On the field, McNutt is one of the top defensive playmakers in the country, recording 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season.

According to Rivals, McNutt is currently ranked 20th in the 2025 cycle, the 2nd-ranked safety prospect, and the third-ranked prospect in Ohio.

2025 5-star DB Trey McNutt has delayed his commitment announcement

Texas A&M is now in a better position to land 2025 5-star Trey McNutt

Things got a lot more interesting this week regarding one of Texas A&M’s high-priority prospects, as 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt, who was previously slated to announce his commitment on Friday, has reportedly pushed back his announcement until early next month.

His reason behind the delay is currently unknown. Still, based on pure speculation, he could be weighing his options between Oregon and Texas A&M, who remain the favorites among his final five program list.

Reported earlier this week, On3’s Steve Wiltfong noted that Mike Elko and his staff have continued to make a push for McNutt despite Oregon’s slight lead, working off of this summer’s recruting momentum, as Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class is currently 19 commitments deep with more to come this fall.

Finally ready to make his final collegiate decision, McNutt announced that he would commit on Saturday, August 3, choosing between Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, and Texas A&M.

On the field, McNutt is one of the top defensive playmakers in the country, recording 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season.

According to 247Sports, McNutt is currently ranked 23rd in the 2025 cycle, the No. 1 safety prospect, and the second-ranked prospect in Ohio.

Texas A&M and Oregon are in a tight battle for 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt

2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt is set to commit on Friday, July 19

It’s reportedly coming down to the wire regarding 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt out of Shaker Heights, Ohio. Texas A&M and Oregon are fighting for his commitment, set for Friday, July 19, at 6:00 p.m. CT.

Earlier this week, On3 Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong reported that even though Oregon remains a slight favorite to land McNutt, Texas A&M and head coach, Mike Elko are clearly in the mix after hosting McNutt for an official visit this summer.

Whether he commits to Texas A&M or not, I expect Elko and his staff to contact McNutt going forward, as nothing is set in stone until the pen hits the paper on National Signing Day. On Thursday, Wiltfong further noted that he still feels that Oregon is leading for McNutt, but A&M continues to hang around, which could result in a surprise on Friday night.

“It’s getting tight with the Aggies.”

On the field, McNutt recorded 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season.

Texas A&M is also in the hunt for the other top safety in the class, 2025 5-star Jonah Williams, who several analysts still predict to land with the Aggies later this year.

According to 247Sports, McNutt is currently ranked 23rd in the 2025 cycle, the No. 1 safety prospect, and the second-ranked prospect in Ohio.

Texas A&M and Oregon are reportedly neck and neck for two 5-star 2025 safety prospects

Texas A&M is in a close battle with the Oregon Ducks for two of the top safety prospects in the 2025 recruiting class

With Mike Elko now running things, Texas A&M’s defense should be a top-20-ranked unit for as long as he’s in charge. In the secondary, expect a lot of height and speed, which is already a significant portion of the Aggies’  2024 corner and safety group.

Within Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class, Elko has secured 19 commitments, shoring up the future of the offensive line while adding 5-star quarterback Husan Longstreet and 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson, who became the program’s latest commitment on Tuesday evening.

However, outside of the four cornerback prospects, Elko and his staff are still looking to make two safety additions. According to On3’s Steve Wiltfong, the Aggies are reportedly in a heated battle with the red-hot Oregon Ducks for 2025 5-star safeties Jonah Williams and Trey McNutt.

Williams, currently positioned as the 7th-ranked player in the class, is still predicted to land with Texas A&M after taking an official visit to College Station on June 7 but later visited Oregon on June 21. McNutt, the No. 1-ranked safety prospect in the class, also visited the Aggies on June 13 while heading to Eugene for an OV on June 21.

Right now, I expect Texas A&M to land one of the two prospects, leading toward Jonah Williams due to his close relationship with the coaching staff, while McNutt is slightly leaning toward the Ducks at this time.

Trey McNutt will announce his commitment on Friday, July 19, while Jonah Williams has not scheduled his announcement.

2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt has announced his July commitment date

One of Texas A&M’s high priority prospects will announce his commitment next month

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko’s strength has been and continues to be on defense, earning the respect of every program that faced him during his lengthy defensive coordinator career before taking over the Aggies back in November.

While he will share the defensive duties with new defensive coordinator Jay Bateman this upcoming season, Elko’s recruiting prowess continues to impress future defenders, especially in the secondary. Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class is currently 18 commitments deep, including eight players on defense.

After landing verbals from several defenders at the start of the month, one of Elko’s priority prospects, five-star safety and Ohio native Trey McNutt, has revealed his upcoming commitment date.

Ready to make his potentially final collegiate decision, McNutt announced that he would commit on Friday, July 19, choosing between Florida, Ohio State, Oregon, USC, and Texas A&M.

After taking an official visit to College Station on June 13, McNutt also visited the red-hot Oregon Ducks. The Ducks have dominated the recruiting trail after recently landing five-star wide receiver Dakorian Moore.

On the field, McNutt recorded 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense during his 2023 junior season

According to 247Sports, McNutt is currently ranked 23rd in the 2025 cycle, the No. 1 safety prospect, and the second-ranked prospect in Ohio.

2025 5-star ATH out of Cleveland (OH) has placed Texas A&M in his Top 8 program list

Texas A&M has landed in 2025 5-star safety Trey McNutt’s Top 8 program list

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has already proven his recruiting chops in his first full offseason with the program. After rebuilding Duke’s football program in just two years at the helm, he has returned to the Aggies since his days as defensive coordinator from 2017-2021 with the same level of coaching acumen.

Helping recruit several current players from A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class, including starting quarterback Conner Weigman, Elko, and his staff have already secured five commits in the 2025 cycle. As of this week, 2025 five-star athlete/safety Trey McNutt has included the Aggies in his Top 8 program list.

Joining Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, and USC, McNutt is coming off a recent unofficial visit to College Station and is expected to return later this year.

According to 247Sports Composite, McNutt is currently positioned as the 26th-ranked prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, the No. 1-ranked safety prospect, and the No. 2-ranked prospect out of Ohio.

During his 2023 junior season at Shaker Heights HS, McNutt recorded 61 tackles, two for loss, 12 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on the year while excelling as a wide receiver on offense. McNutt is an exceptional athlete with elite versatility who will only improve as his career progresses.
