Several Texas A&M 2025 commits soar in updated 247Sports recruiting rankings

Wednesday’s Top247 recruiting update feautured several Texas A&M commits soaring in the rankings

Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting class looks more impressive by the day, and Wednesday’s 247Sports recruiting update furthered that narrative as four 2025 Aggie commits have risen in the rankings, led by 5-star quarterback Husan Longstreet.

Amid head coach Mike Elko’s first season with the program, the Aggies are currently 5-1 and 3-0 in SEC play, sitting in first place in the conference before taking on Mississippi State in Starkville (MS) this Saturday. On the recruiting trail, Elko has A&M’s 2025 cycle and is now ranked 8th nationally after Monday’s update.

Out of the program’s Top 22 commits, Husan Longstreet rose three spots from 31st to 28th, while 4-star defensive lineman DJ Sanders rose 11 from 73rd to 62nd. However, it was the meteoric rise of 4-star safety Rashad Johnson (259-74) and 4-star cornerback Jamar Beal-Goines (193-94).

One of A&M’s most prized prospects, 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson, rose from 161-112th, while Elko’s latest commitment, 4-star offensive lineman Nelson McGuire, was the biggest riser going from 348th to 139th.

All in all, Elko and his staff should be very excited about what the next wave of freshmen will bring to the program sooner than later.

Texas A&M will face Mississippi State on the road on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 3:15 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network.

2025 4-star WR Kelshaun Johnson will announce his commitment next week

2025 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson is set to announce his commitment on July 16

Due to Hurrican Beryl, which impacted the entire state of Texas last week, plans for everyone were changed on a dime, including 2024 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson out of Hitchcock, Texas. However, with things finally returning to normal, Johnson will announce his collegiate plans next week.

On Saturday, Johnson posted on X that he will announce his decision on Tuesday, July 16, which will be available to stream on 247Sports’ YouTube, as he will choose between Texas, USC, Arkansas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M after a long summer of official visits, including a visit to College Station on June 6.

Standing at 5-11 and 160 pounds, Johnson possesses impressive speed and route running skills with the ability to play on the outside or in the slot while serving as a kick/punt returner early in his college career.

With new offensive coordinator Collin Klein taking over play-calling duties this coming season, recruits, including Johnson, have been provided a clear vision of how they’ll fit in the Aggies offense. On the recruiting front, Texas A&M has only one wide receiver commit in the 2025 cycle, losing out on several recruits, including 4-star WR Taz Williams Jr.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is currently positioned as the 192nd-ranked prospect in the 2025 class, the 20th-ranked wide receiver, and the 27th-ranked prospect in Texas.

2025 4-star WR out of Hitchcock (Texas) has received a prediction to land with Texas A&M

2025 4-star WR Kelshaun Johnson is now favored to land with Texas A&M

On paper, it was a highly succesful weekend for head coach Mike Elko and his staff, as one the most important recruiting weekends has come and gone, resulting in progress being made with several priority prospects in the 2025 cycle.

Outside of five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, four-star WR Kelshaun Johnson also represented the offense this weekend out of Hitchcock, Texas, bringing a ton of versatility, speed, and notable up-field acceleration that consistently jumps off the screen when watching his film.

Back in April, Texas A&M WR coach Holmon Wiggins visited Johnson while also setting up his official visit. He finally made his way to College Station to take in the sights and spend time with some of the 2025 Aggie commits who have continued to sell what the program has to offer.

Previously an overwhelming favorite to land Johnson’s commitment, Texas is now competing with Texas A&M as On3’s Steve Wiltfong has submitted his prediction for the Aggies to land Johnson after this weekend, which is a major development.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is currently ranked 197th among prospects in the 2025 class, 7th among wide receiver prospects, and 27th among prospects in Texas.

2025 4-Star WR out of Hitchcock (TX) has placed Texas A&M in his Top 10 program list

Texas A&M is now a finalist to land 2025 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson out to Hitchcock, Texas.

It’s the offseason, and while spring football is just around the corner, these early spring months are dominated by recruiting, specifically the 2025 cycle that’s filled with defensive talent. Quietly assembling in an impressive 2025 class thus far, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has continued to garner attention from recruits throughout the national landscape.

This week, the momentum continued as several 2025 prospects included the Aggies in their respective program lists, including 4-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson out of Hitchcock, Texas. Texas A&M has joined USC, Texas Tech, Penn State, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, TCU, Tennessee, and Texas.

Looking to add his first WR commit in the cycle, Elko doesn’t have to go far, as the Lone Star State is chock-full of future SEC starters at the position, while Johnson offers intriguing versatility on both sides of the ball.

Thin but strong, Johnson stands at 5-11 and 160 pounds and was deployed all over the field during his 2023 junior season, possessing the speed and quickness to excel in post routes and bubble routes.

According to 247Sports, Johnson is currently positioned as the 194th-ranked prospect in the 2025 class, the 7th-ranked athlete, and the 28th-ranked prospect in Texas.
