The World Series has been good to people named Will Smith lately.
The World Series has been good to MLB players named Will Smith over the last five years.
After the Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2024 World Series on Wednesday night in Game 5 over the New York Yankees, catcher Will Smith once again became a champion.
L.A.’s Smith won the World Series in 2020 with the Dodgers, and the other MLB’s Will Smith, a pitcher, won the World Series in 2021 (Atlanta Braves), 2022 (Houston Astros) and 2023 (Texas Rangers), as MLB’s Sarah Langs observed on Twitter (X).
Like, c’mon, that’s wild. If you want your favorite MLB team to win a World Series next year, get one of the two MLB Will Smiths.
This seems to be a good plan!
This is the fifth straight season in which a Will Smith wins a World Series:
2024: C Will Smith (LAD)
2023: LHP Will Smith (TEX)
2022: LHP Will Smith (HOU)
2021: LHP Will Smith (ATL)
2020: C Will Smith (LAD)
The Dodgers are World Series champs once more, and the calls of the final out are stellar.
The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2024 World Series on Wednesday night in New York after taking Game 5, earning the team’s second title in the last four years.
As the final out came in and the Dodgers players flooded the diamond to celebrate their series win over the New York Yankees, Fox Sports’ Joe Davis delivered a fantastic call of the moment.
The Dodgers Radio Network’s broadcast also did a swell job of calling the moment, and you can hear both of these broadcast moments below.
For Los Angeles fans, these are calls you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Enjoy the moment, and keep these videos on a loop for the rest of the week.

New York Yankees outfielder Giancarlo Stanton kept the homers coming during Game 5 of the 2024 World Series.
In the bottom of the third inning, Stanton slammed a homer run into the stands at Yankees Stadium to get his team up 5-0 over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
New York manager Aaron Boone was giving an in-game interview with Fox Sports when Stanton was at the plate, and he let out an excited “Bang!” right as the homer went on the board.
Boone channeled his best Mike Breen here, giving fans such a cool moment to see a manager react to such a huge swing right when it happens.

New York will give the ball to its ace in Gerrit Cole in Game 5, while the Dodgers will turn back to Jack Flaherty, who despite a strong start in Game 1, has struggled throughout the postseason.
Will the Yankees take the next step on a steep climb, or will the Dodgers take their final leap towards World Series glory? Limited tickets still remain.

A New York Yankees fan was seemingly ejected from Wednesday night’s 2024 World Series Game 4 for trying to rip Los Angeles Yankees superstar Mookie Betts’ glove off during an out.
While we’re not even going to pretend why this person thought this was a good idea, the bizarre World Series moment did inspire some fantastic memes.
People seemed to connect this Yankees fan to sketch comedy genius Tim Robinson, so you should expect some I Think You Should Leave memes in here by default.
We’re sure this New York fan won’t be back at an MLB game anytime soon, but we can enjoy these memes while we shake our heads at how stupid this was.
One of the dumbest fan encounters of all-time went down during Tuesday night’s Game 4 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium.
As Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts leaped up in the air to snag a ball going toward the stands, a Yankees fan quite literally grabbed Betts’ glove and tried to rip it off his hand.
Yes, the fan tried to take Betts’ glove off his hand and then settled for taking the ball out of his glove and throw it out. Another New York fan grabbed Betts’ hand during the ordeal and seemed to unnecessarily involve himself.
"Well, A for effort."

Of course, this did not go over well with the umpires, nor should it have. Both fans in question were seemingly ejected and New York was assessed an out for the fan interference.
Why this person decided to do this is beyond us, but this is the stuff that takes away from the magic of live sports.
When you make yourself part of the game for the wrong reason, you’re more a loser than either of the competitors.

Update:The Athletic confirmed that the two fans were ejected from the ballpark and included some quotes about the incident:
Capobianco’s brother, Darren, 29, said he saw Betts’ glove go over the concrete wall as he tried to make a catch on Torres’ hit.
“I just see the ball kind of — I don’t want to say (go) up for grabs, if that makes sense,” Darren Capobianco said. “And then Mookie was swearing at us. Not good.”
It was a nice thought from whoever booked the “Lean Back” rapper as he is from The Bronx and has enjoyed a successful music career. Sadly, however, it did not exactly go well for him at Yankee Stadium.
While wearing Timberland boots on the pitcher’s mound before Game 3, he sang “All The Way Up” and didn’t exactly get the warmest reaction. Despite calling himself the ghost of Babe Ruth and trying to hype the crowd, it was clear that the energy wasn’t really there.
After the game, David Ortiz said that it felt like a “funeral already” when the artist played his hit song.
This was probably a very cool moment for Fat Joe, who also performed during halftime of a WNBA Finals game between the Liberty and Lynx earlier this month.
But it didn’t quite resonate with those who were watching him.

New York will give the ball to Luis Gil in Game 4, while the Dodgers will likely play a bullpen game.

Giancarlo Stanton couldn’t have run this play any slower for the Yankees.
It probably wasn’t the best idea for the New York Yankees to send Giancarlo Stanton home to try to score a run here.
On Monday, the Yankees hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the 2024 World Series, looking to cut the series to a 2-1 deficit after two losses in California. However, the Yankees found themselves down 3-0 early after a first inning Freddie Freeman home run and a Mookie Betts sacrifice fly in the third put the Dodgers ahead.
The Yankees were putting guys on base, but were continuing to leave them stranded throughout the middle innings. In the fourth inning, with Stanton on second and two outs, Anthony Volpe hooked a ball into left field. It wasn’t a deep ball, but the Yankees sent Stanton towards home regardless, hoping to get on the board for the first time.
Instead, however, Stanton was thrown out on a gorgeous play by Teoscar Hernández, helped along by the fact that the Yankees’ designated hitter was so slow getting home.
BANG!!
Teoscar Hernández throws out Stanton at home plate!
Stanton definitely shouldn’t have run there and the Yankees’ third base coach absolutely should have stopped him. While Stanton is an absolute monster in the batter’s box, he’s not exactly know for his speed. At all.
Baseball fans on Twitter, however, couldn’t help but make memes at Stanton’s expense for his slow run around the bases during Game 3.
