20 Aggies named to the 2024 Senior Bowl watchlist

20 Texas A&M football players were recently named to the 2024 Senior Bowl watchlist

Texas A&M’s 2024 season opener vs. Notre Dame is just a week away. The Mike Elko era will officially begin after an eventful offseason of building his coaching staff and roster.

Unlike most new head coaches, the former Aggie defensive coordinator isn’t starting from scratch. He helped recruit a handful of the current veterans on the 2024 roster before departing for his two-year head coaching stint at Duke.

Equipped with plenty of talent and experience, led by redshirt sophomore starting quarterback Conner Weigman, it has revealed that 20 current offensive and defensive starters/reserves have been named to the 2024 Senior Bowl watchlist.

Held in Mobile, Alabama, on an annual basis, the Senior Bowl provides another opportunity for veteran collegiate players to prove their worth to NFL scouts ahead of each NFL draft. For Texas A&M, the player list is composed of original recruits and transfer portal players:

  • K Randy Bond
  • DL Josh Celiscar
  • CB Tyreek Chappell

The NFL draft starts in Mobile, Alabama, and as the Eagles and 29 other teams start figuring out a plan to reach the Super Bowl, coaches, scouts, and GMs have descended upon the most storied all-star game going today.

The National Team defeated the American Team, 16-7, in the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl on Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the University of South Alabama campus.

The game capped off a week-long interview process, including three days of practices, for more than 100 of the 2024 NFL Draft’s top senior (and select underclassman) prospects.

With all eyes now on the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, here are ten potential Eagles draft targets that stood out.

Watch: Wrapping up Senior Bowl practices with Detroit Lions Podcast live from Mobile

Three days of Senior Bowl practices wrapped on Thursday afternoon. After watching all the sessions in person at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama, the Detroit Lions Podcast gathered back on radio row to go over what we saw during the week.

We covered a lot of the players from both the American and National teams who we liked from a Lions perspective. Who was the player of the week? Which players showed more than expected coming into the week? Which positional needs could the Lions fill in the draft with some of the players here.

We also talked about some of what we learned about the Lions hiring American coach Terrell Williams as the new defensive run game coordinator and DL coach.

The episode is also available in audio-only format from your favorite podcast provider.

Secret superstars of the Senior Bowl, Day 3

An FCS running back and a PAC-12 linebacker highlight the secret superstars for Day 3 of Senior Bowl practices.

Senior Bowl practices have officially wrapped up in Mobile, and the final day of practice features multiple breakout performances from both sides of the ball. These are the secret superstars from Day 3 at the Senior Bowl.

8 prospects who impressed in 2024 Senior Bowl practices

Which draft prospect stood out most in Mobile this week?

The practices are in the books and all that’s left is the 2024 Senior Bowl itself in Mobile, Ala.

For many players, the game won’t be nearly as important, though. On the practice field, NFL coaches worked directly with many of the top prospects of the 2024 NFL draft class and had a chance to line them up one-on-one against other top prospects.

While it can be for some positions — like running back and safety, for instance — to really show their skills and physicality in practice, others had a chance to show their strengths.

With the game still two days away (Saturday at 1 p.m. ET), here are the players who helped themselves most with some stellar Senior Bowl practices this week:

Senior Bowl standout QB says he spoke with Patriots ‘a few times’

Could this Senior Bowl standout QB be a potential draft option for the Patriots?

The New England Patriots are doing their homework at the quarterback position ahead of the 2024 NFL draft. South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler indicated that he has spoken with the Patriots organization “a few times” at the Senior Bowl.

After transferring from Oklahoma, Rattler threw for 3,186 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2023. He put together a stellar collegiate career, finishing with 10,807 passing yards, 77 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.

Now, he is looking to make a name for himself in the NFL. In an interview with Patriots reporter Zac Ventola, he said he had spoken with the organization “a few times.”

“Yep. Spoke with them a few times, you know, along with other teams,” said Rattler, when asked if he had spoken with the Patriots. “But, yeah, all the teams are out here, and it’s cool to be able to talk to them and get to know them.”

Rattler has been impressing at the Senior Bowl overall and is drawing praise from several analysts that are on-site. One has to wonder what his stock looks like and if he can use the event to climb the draft board.

The Patriots are in need at the quarterback position. Rattler may not be the organization’s first choice, but he could be a later option if the team wanted to use their first-round draft pick on an offensive playmaker.

Day 1 Senior Bowl standouts, and their NFL potential

Day 1 Senior Bowl standouts, and their NFL potential (via @NFL_DougFarrar):

The Senior Bowl is but one step in the evaluation process that eventually takes the best available college players to the NFL, but it is an important step in that there’s several days of practices in which personnel people can see like as like beyond the game tape. In the evaluative sense, the practices are almost more important than the games themselves.

Tuesday marked the first practices for the 2024 Senior Bowl, and here are six players who stood out immediately, matched with their NCAA tape, and some thoughts on their ultimate NFL potential.

2024 NFL Mock Draft: Senior Bowl edition, with a few new surprises

With Senior Bowl week in full swing, here’s one mock draft that reflects the statutes of a few prospects who have raised their profiles in Mobile.

The evaluative process for draft prospects goes through several different levels each year. The game tape is the most important thing, of course, but when the college all-star games like the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl come around, they matter, as well. At those events, NFL coaches and personnel people are able to interact closely on a daily basis with prospects through the weeks of practice, and it’s especially important for smaller-school players, who can show their attributes against players from stronger programs.

Day 1 Senior Bowl standouts, and their NFL potential

As we’re halfway through the practices for the Senior Bowl teams, now is a good time to see who has raised their profiles — sometimes, all the way into the hypothetical first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Because as we go through the scouting combine, pro days, and team visits, those prospects who bloom late will show up, as well.
