The party continues for the Boston Celtics a week removed from winning the 2024 NBA Finals. The champions headed to Fenway Park to celebrate with the Boston Red Sox and their fans Monday night. The Celtics were announced just ahead of the game to massive applause, and the starters threw out the ceremonial first pitch, too. They also made sure to bring along the Larry O’Brien trophy, a symbol of their hard work and success. After the festivities, the team stuck around to watch the game itself, a tightly contested affair between the Red Sox and the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. To cap off the night, Boston won thanks to a walk-off single from Jaren Durren in the bottom of the ninth inning, rounding out a special evening for the fans in attendance. Childhood pals Matthew Tkachuk, Jayson Tatum made their high school proud with NHL, NBA championships

From high school pals to champions.

For an athlete to reach the professional ranks of their respective sport is an extreme source of pride for the hometown and high school they came from. For that athlete to reach star status and win a championship only heightens that sense of pride.

But what is it like to have two athletes from the same school do it all in the same month? We’ll have to ask Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis. Because after Matthew Tkachuk’s triumph with the Florida Panthers Monday night followed his buddy Jayson Tatum winning an NBA title for the Boston Celtics last week, Chaminade is one of the few schools to know that over-the-moon feeling.

After Florida won the Stanley Cup, Tkachuk said everyone back home should be very proud.

“Two champs from St. Louis, are you kidding me right now?” Tkachuk said. “Chaminade, everybody there. All the teachers, classmates, you guys should be very proud.”

They are, Matthew. They are.

Chaminade principal Philip Rone said as much in a tweet, adding that Tkachuk should be proud too. And he had a lot more to say about “The Hilltop of Champions.”

PHOTOS: Boston’s stars shine bright during 2024 Celtics championship parade

Check out more of the best photos of Boston’s star players during the 2024 Celtics championship parade.

After the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Finals, they celebrated with a parade through the streets of Boston. Riding through the city on the Hub’s iconic duck boats, the players, coaches, and personnel cheered along with the millions of fans who came into town for the big day.

Good things come to those who wait, and Boston’s stars did their fair share of waiting. Guys like Al Horford or Kristaps Porzingis spent years fighting through adversity and adapting roles to get to this point of their careers. And for Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, winning a championship can finally put to rest the endless doubt and commentary that has swirled since they joined the team. During the parade, each of these players was seen cheering and laughing while taking in the sights and sounds of what was a very special day for the team and for the city.

Here are the best photos of the club’s star players from the 2024 Celtics championship parade, courtesy of Boston-based photographer Ermis Martinez.

The Celtics made petty victory cigars for their championship parade with a tribute to their doubters

This is next-level petty.

The Boston Celtics had victory cigars made for their championship parade, and each one contained the words of those who doubted them.

Jayson Tatum did not forget his haters when he quoted Kanye West shortly after winning it all. Jaylen Brown didn’t forget the doubters when he wore a shirt aimed at Stephen A. Smith before Friday’s championship parade. Still, the Celtics’ pettiness has reached elite levels.

Per Daniel Donabedian of Clutch Points, a Boston rapper revealed that the Celtics had 18 victory cigars made — a nod to their 18 championships — and each one contained words of doubt that will quite literally be smoked away soon. Here’s what the message included with the cigars said:

“These are the same kinds of cigars Red used to smoke. Each one comes with the words of all of those who doubted a Celtics’ victory this year. We know how that ended. Congratulations on Banner No. 18.”

Key information for the Boston Celtics championship parade

The Boston Celtics will celebrate their 2024 NBA Championship with a parade on Friday June 21.

The Boston Celtics will celebrate their 2024 NBA Championship with a parade on Friday (June 21). The event will begin at 11 a.m. local time and is expected to draw more than 1 million people into the city. The Celtics are currently celebrating their success with a short trip to Miami.

Due to a heatwave, the Celtics have been forced to wait for their championship celebration, which led Mayor Michelle Wu to declare a “Heat Emergency” on June 18. Nevertheless, Celtics fans will likely be eager to get into the streets to start celebrating with the team and other community members.

There has been no update regarding which TV stations will be covering the event. NBA TV will likely live stream the parade, and local news stations should be expected to provide coverage as well. It’s also likely that local radio will be on hand to keep listeners engaged throughout the proceedings.

Boston’s championship parade will begin on Causeway Street, move through City Hall Plaza, Boston Common and end on Boylston Street. Undoubtedly, some duck boats will be involved in the festivities as well.

This is the first Celtics championship in 16 years. The victory means the franchise now has the most banners of any team in the NBA. Joe Mazzulla’s team will undoubtedly be looking for a 19th championship next season.

Al Horford expected to return to Celtics for another season

Al Horford is expected to return to the Boston Celtics for another season.

Al Horford has finally won an NBA Championship. The Boston Celtics veteran big man has been a staple of the Celtics’ rotation during his two stints with the franchise. He has played the role of veteran leader and reliable on-court presence to perfection. Now, he will always be remembered as a core part of Boston’s championship puzzle.

Horford turned 38 on June 3. He will be 39 by the end of the 2024-25 season. However, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck recently confirmed that the veteran will be returning to the Celtics for another season. Horford has one year remaining on his current contract. The chance to challenge for a repeat has likely been a factor in his decision-making.

“Al is coming back for next year. That’s what I’ve been told. Age 38, which is unbelievable,” Grousbeck said on the “The Greg Hill Show.” “…We’ve got some guys who are getting up there a little bit, but basically we’re a young team,” Grousbeck said. “Most of our players are 30 or younger and that is bad news for everybody else, hopefully.”

Boston was rewarded for having Horford on its bench this season. When Kristaps Porzingis was ruled out of the rotation due to injury, the veteran slid into the starting lineup with ease and made significant contributions on both sides of the floor.

Horford’s game isn’t predicated on elite athleticism or explosiveness. He uses angles and core strength to remain viable on the defensive end, while his perimeter shooting ability ensures he draws the defense’s attention.

Horford will likely be playing his last season in the NBA, and will undoubtedly be hoping to retire as a two-time champion.
