What is the Celtics biggest roadblock to another championship?

What roadblocks will the Boston Celtics face in their journey to retain their NBA championship?

The Boston Celtics secured the 18th championship in franchise history this past season. Joe Mazzulla’s team dominated both the regular season and the playoffs en route to a gentleman’s sweep of the Dallas Mavericks. Now, the Celtics face the task of trying to retain that championship while being chased down by every other team in the league.

Multiple rosters strengthened during the summer, with two of the biggest improvements coming in the Eastern Conference. The Philadelphia 76ers signed Paul George in free agency, while the New York Knicks acquired Mikal Bridges via trade. The Milwaukee Bucks also made some marginal improvements and should also be seen as a potential threat.

During the debut episode of the “You Got Boston” podcast, CLNS Media’s Noa Dalzell discussed the potential roadblocks Joe Mazzulla’s roster could face as they look to secure Banner 19 at the first time of asking.

Did Steve Kerr disrespect Jayson Tatum by benching him?

Steve Kerr is facing mounting criticism for choosing to bench Jayson Tatum against Serbia.

Steve Kerr has been facing significant criticism over his decision to bench Boston Celtics‘ star Jayson Tatum in the opening game of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Tatum sat on the bench for the entirety of Team USA’s 100-84 victory against Serbia on Sunday, July 28. Derrick White and Jrue Holiday both had considerable playing time during the contest.

Kerr’s decision to bench Tatum was highly questionable, as he had decided to run a three-guard lineup with Devin Booker starting as the small forward. Tatum was likely the better option for that role due to his diverse skillset and experience in international basketball.

In the latest video by “Chat Sports,” the host dissects Kerr’s decision to sit as a top-10 player in the world, before questioning whether the Celtics have some additional motivation heading into the new NBA season.

Do the Boston Celtics really have a super team?

Joel Embiid recently said the Boston Celtics were a superteam, is that true, or is there more to the story?

The Boston Celtics have been accused of having a super team over the last 12 months. The additions of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis certainly created a case for Boston being given such a label. However, not every Celtics fan has agreed with the notion that the Celtics roster is overpowered compared to the rest of the NBA.

In truth, the Celtics do have one of the most talented and deepest teams in the league. Yet, what sets them apart is their continuity and team chemistry, with everyone on the same page and pulling in the same direction. It’s that cohesive unit that allowed Boston’s roster to all sacrifice for the greater good.

Nevertheless, that nuance appeared to be lost on Joel Embiid, who recently cited Boston as a superteam. During a recent episode of the “How ‘Bout Them Celtics” podcast, hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance discussed whether Boston has a superteam and how much that really matters.

Celtics Jayson Tatum will be ‘forever grateful’ for Jaylen Brown

Jayson Tatum has admitted he will be ‘forever grateful’ for his partnership with Jaylen Brown on the Boston Celtics roster.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have endured some gut-wrenching moments during their tenure on the Boston Celtics roster. The young wing duo have been knocking on the door of a championship for the majority of their career. However, until the 2023-24 season, they always fell short. Fortunately, all that changed following the additions of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis.

Boston dominated all season long and carried that domination in the postseason. Now, the Celtics will head into the 2024-25 season looking to win back-to-back championships, with Tatum and Brown eager to secure their legacies within Celtics history.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated via their ’10 Burning Questions’ YouTube series, Tatum credited his partnership with Brown. He noted how the years of falling short and dealing with media criticism made them stronger and got them ready for their success of last season.

“I think over the years it’s just made us stronger,” Tatum said. “Made us more connected. Made us more together in a sense. Now, we have something that they can never take away from us. We did all the things they said we could not do. I’ll forever be grateful for him and what we’ve been able to accomplish together.”

Tatum and Brown are still a year or two away from entering their primes. They are already two of the best forwards in the NBA and have an elite supporting cast around them. As such, it’s not hard to envision them winning another title or two before Brad Stevens is forced to re-tool the roster.

No matter what, though, Tatum and Brown overcame a mountain of challenges to be crowned champions. Their names will forever be etched in Celtics history, despite what they had to go through to get there.

What adjustments should Joe Mazzulla make next season?

What adjustments could Joe Mazzulla make to give the Boston Celtics and edge next season?

The Boston Celtics are the 2024 NBA Champions. Joe Mazzulla’s team dominated during the regular season and throughout the playoffs. During the opening weeks of the summer, Brad Stevens has secured the long-term future of Boston’s primary rotation. As such, Boston will head into next season with the playbook still fresh in their mind,

Nevertheless, Mazzulla will undoubtedly need to make some changes to his overall system. Every NBA team will have a better understanding of how to slow down the reigning champions. Even making tiny adjustments could help the team dominate for a second straight season and potentially retain their championship.

During a recent episode of the “Bob Ryan and Gary Tanguay Podcast,” the duo discussed the potential adjustments we could see from Mazzulla and his coaching staff and whether it could make a difference to the Celtics’ chances of winning a second straight title.

You can watch the full episode and find out what potential changes Mazzulla could make by clicking on the embedded link above.

Daryl Morey stokes the fire with bold championship claim

The Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations believes his team will be a major challenge for the Boston Celtics next season.

The Boston Celtics will be facing some stiff competition as they look to defend their NBA championship next season. The Eastern Conference has gotten tougher at the top following the Philadelphia 76ers’ addition of Paul George and the New York Knicks’ acquisition of Mikal Bridges. The Milwaukee Bucks can’t be ignored, either.

During a recent appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic, Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey noted how his team will be coming for Boston’s championship title next season. Morey likely believes that George’s presence within the Sixers rotation has elevated them into contender status and put them on the same level as Joe Mazzulla’s Celtics.

“Obviously, you have to give the Celtics their credit,” Morey said. “They won the title. They’re an excellent team. They’ve brought everybody back. They’re the target, but we don’t feel like we give up anything to them. We are going to be coming to take the title away from them.”

Philadelphia will undoubtedly be relying on the long-term health of Joel Embiid and George; two players who have struggled with injury issues over the past few years. On the flip side, Boston will be without Kristaps Porzingis for the opening months of the season, as he recovers from surgery.

Retaining their championship will undoubtedly be a tall order for the Celtics. However, they have the depth, elite talent and experience to be cited as favorites for the upcoming season, and will undoubtedly welcome all challengers along the way.

Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown ‘need each other’

The Boston Celtics duo have accepted they’re at their best when playing together with one goal in mind.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are the Boston Celtics‘ two best players. Both forwards are among the best in the NBA in terms of their positions. And both played a key role in leading the Celtics to the 2024 NBA championship. Brown and Tatum have faced significant criticism throughout their careers, with many questioning whether the duo was talented enough to win at the highest level.

During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, in an issue that features Tatum as the cover athlete, the St. Louis native admitted he and brown have ‘figured out’ that they’re at their best when playing together.

“We’ve figured out that we need each other,” Tatum says. “We have learned how to coexist. And we know we need to be the best version of ourselves in order for all of this to work. We weren’t necessarily the best playmakers early in our careers but we developed into guys that really bleed the game. We want to be a great example of guys that play on both ends as a floor and guys who are the best teammates that we can be.”

The Celtics need Tatum and Brown on the same page and playing at their best if they want to continue challenging for championships. Over the last 12 months, Brad Stevens has tied them both to Supermax contracts, ensuring their partnership will continue throughout the prime of their careers.

Boston is positioned to make multiple championship runs in the coming years. Tatum and Brown will be at the forefront of those charges. The fact that they will both be on the same page should send a shudder down their opponent’s spine.

The Boston Celtics roster is worth the incredible price tag

Despite being one of the more expensive rosters in the NBA, the Boston Celtics are right to lock their core down for the future.

As a second-apron luxury tax team, the Boston Celtics roster projects to be one of the more expensive in the NBA. President of Basketball Operations, Brad Stevens, has spent the off-season locking down multiple players to long-term deals. As such, the cost of the roster is only going to continue rising.

During a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zach Buckley shared his thoughts on why it makes sense for the Celtics to continue pushing forward with their current championship-winning rotation, regardless of how expensive it may get to keep the core together long-term.

“Boston clearly has a great thing going and recognized as much. That’s why the Celtics bought back into this core wherever they could,” Buckley wrote. “…This roster will cost a fortune to manage—which is perhaps a big reason why the majority stake in this franchise is up for sale—but when the potential return on investment is additional championship rings, it’s hard to fret too much about the finances.”

The Grousbeck family recently put the franchise on the market.

Any potential new ownership group will be inheriting a costly team, but one that can sustain a dynasty in the coming years. It will be interesting to see whether the cost of Boston’s roster is a sticking point in the bidding period.

For now, though, the Celtics are set to continue working towards a second-straight championship, with the knowledge that the current roster is set to stick around for the foreseeable future.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla drew inspiration from orca whales on National Geographic

Sam Hauser has revealed one of the stranger tactics the Boston Celtics head coach used during the 2023-24 season.

Joe Mazzulla is known to use peculiar tactics to get his message across and motivate his Boston Celtics team. The sophomore head coach helped end a 16-year championship drought this past season, leading his team to an 18th championship banner and proving his credentials as a top-level coach in the NBA.

During a recent appearance on the “Green Light with Chris Long,” Sam Hauser was asked about some of the stranger tactics Mazzulla has used throughout his time with the team. Hauser recalled a video session where Mazzulla illustrated his thoughts on teamwork by showing Orca whales hunting a seal that had been isolated on some ice in the middle of the Ocean.

Whatever mind games and tactics Mazzulla is using, they are clearly working. He got a team full of All-Star caliber players to buy into his methods and accept individual sacrifice, so the team as a whole could thrive.
