Nets’ Mikal Bridges doesn’t think he’ll be an All-Star this season

Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges recently told Mark Medina of Sportskeeda that he doesn’t think he will be an All-Star this season.

Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges has had a trying 2023-24 season that has forced him to adapt to being the primary scorer while other teams are actively scheming to limit his offensive production. The results have been below what most expected from him as a lot of people believed that Bridges would continue his play from last season and become an All-Star for the first time in his career.

After averaging 26.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 47.5% field-goal shooting and 37.6% from three in 27 regular-season games with the Nets last season, Bridges is averaging 21.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game on shooting splits of 45.5% from the field and 36% from behind the three-point line.

While he was the primary scoring option for Brooklyn last season following the trades of superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Bridges has had more difficulty getting to his sweet spots as it seems that the NBA is more aware of where he thrives on the court. As a result, opposing defenses are being more physical with Bridges with whatever he does given how it is easier to get in Bridges’ way due to his slight frame.

With Bridges’ numbers down across the board from what they were last season, it seems that his chances of being an All-Star have decreased accordingly. Bridges recently had an interview with Mark Medina of Sportskeeda where he expressed that he doesn’t think that he will be one of the players selected for the All-Star game:

“I don’t think so this year. Maybe next year. You have to win and play to the level.”

Nets’ Mikal Bridges falls outside of top-10 for Eastern Conference fan voting

In the final NBA fan returns released on Thursday, Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges finished outside of the top-10 in fan All-Star voting.

The Brooklyn Nets have seen their season go from one with playoff aspirations to one where the franchise may have to consider being sellers at the trade deadline. With that being said, it looks like one of the players who had a chance at an All-Star bid may have lost that opportunity.

On Thursday, the NBA announced the final fan returns and the voting results for the 2024 All-Star game. Nets guard Mikal Bridges finished outside of the top-10 in fan voting for Eastern Conference frontcourt players after being towards the back end of the top-10 up until the final fan returns were released.

The players that were in the back end of the top-10 that overtook Bridges were Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, and New York Knicks forward Julius Randle. While Bridges fell outside of the top-10, the voting results tell a more detailed story on how his voting ranked during this process.

Bridges had the 10th-highest weighted score among frontcourt players so he still finished in the top-10 relative to his peers. He ranked seventh according to the players (25% of the vote), 11th for fans (50%), and eighth in media voting (25%).

Bridges was not announced as a starter for the All-Star game when the selections were announced on Thursday so he would have to be voted in by NBA coaches as a reserve.

NBA All-Star Game starters: All 10 starting (plus captains) in 2024, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

A look at the NBA All-Star Game starters in 2024.

It’s almost NBA All-Star Game time once again and this time, the format of conference rivalry will return.

The 2024 edition — which will be in Indianapolis on Feb. 18 — will have Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James as the honorary captains.

On Thursday, we learned the captains and starters that were revealed after fans voted (and got 50 percent of the power) with fellow players and a panel of media getting the other 50 percent. There weren’t a ton of surprises, but some intriguing picks.

Let’s run through the list of those 10 NBA stars honored on Thursday:

Jayson Tatum named starter for 2024 NBA All-Star Game

Jayson Tatum has been named a starter for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, with a chance to defend his ASG MVP crown.

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has been named a starter for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. This is Tatum’s fifth All-Star nod in his career and second timing earning starter honors. The game will be played Sunday, February 18 in Indianapolis.

Tatum joins Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks in the frontcourt for the East. The starting guards for the Eastern Conference will be Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers and Damian Lillard of the Bucks.

All-Star starters are selected by a combination of fan, player, and media voting. Fan votes account for 50% of the total pool, while the players and media comprise the other half. Tatum finished second in fan voting, third in player voting, and third in coaches voting.

The 2024 NBA All-Star jerseys are here and fans (mostly) like the classic look

Jordan Brand designed the NBA All-Star Game jerseys and these are pretty good.

To celebrate the upcoming NBA All-Star Game, the league revealed the jerseys that the league’s top players will wear on the court.

Indiana will host the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend and Indianapolis has already installed a basketball court in its airport for the occasion, although fans unfortunately cannot play on the court. During the game, for the seventh year in a row, players will jerseys designed by Jordan Brand.

It is worth noting that the NBA has decided to switch back to East versus West for the format of the All-Star Game, and the jerseys reflect as much. Here is more from the NBA:

“In the return of the East vs. West format, the uniforms celebrate the league and rich basketball history of Indiana. The 2024 NBA All-Stars will also be outfitted in Jordan Brand old-school, Hoosier-inspired warm-ups.

Designed from the idea that basketball was raised in Indiana, the uniforms are rooted in a nostalgic, heritage look that feature a tonal twist on the classic red and blue uniforms with cream lettering. The pinstripes are inspired by the iconic Pacers uniforms in the late 1990s and early 2000s.”

You can take a look at the East (left) and West (right) jerseys below:

Some details to note include racing stripes under the words “All-Star” as an homage to Indianapolis and the Indy 500.

The sides of the shorts also have a logo with a large circle around it as a tribute to Monument Circle, which is there to represent the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Circle City.

Perhaps the best design element is the “ASG” ligature mark on the belt buckle, which draws from the “graphical origins” of the sport.

Of course, fans shared their thoughts about the look of these jerseys:

Celtics Lab 237: Predicting how many Boston Celtics will be East NBA All-Stars with Chris Forsberg

Based on the earlier rounds of returns, it’s looking all but certain that the Celtics will end up with at least two All-Stars in 2024 – but could they get more?

With the final returns from the annual fan vote for the league’s starters in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game set to go down in Indianapolis, Indiana in the month of February and the reserves selected by league coaches, we will soon get an answer to how many Boston Celtics will suit up for the annual exhibition tilt.

Based on the earlier rounds of returns, it’s looking all but certain that the Celtics will end up with at least two All-Stars in 2024. But the possibility of three or even four is on the table for Boston with a little luck.

To try to get an idea of what we can expect for the Association’s 2024 East All-Stars (and how many Boston players will be included), the hosts of CLNS Media’s “Celtics Lab” podcast got together with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg to try to prognosticate the 12-man roster for the East.

We also get into the latest trade buzz, and look back on Boston’s recent spate of excellent play (with a hiccup in Denver, of course).

Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis keeps focus on team success over individual accolades

“My main focus is – or the only focus is, really, to keep winning,” said Porzingis.

Kristaps Porzingis may have played a bit below the level of an All-Star in the Boston Celtics loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday night. But his focus is on trying to get team wins over individual success according to the Boston Herald’s Steve Hewitt. “To be completely honest, my focus is so low on that,” he explained postgame.

“My main focus is – or the only focus is, really, to keep winning. If we’re No. 1 in the league, I think those things will kind of take care of itself,” added Porzingis. “But I would say even the importance for me, comparing to maybe the beginning of my career, it’s so much lower now.”

“You cannot even compare it,” explained the star Celtics center. “I know what my main goal is and what I’m here for.”

“So again, as I’ve said before, if we just keep winning, those individual accolades will just kind of take care of itself,” said Porzingis.

Derrick White’s father Richard relishing his son’s All-Star candidacy, season

“He deserves to be listed in there,” said the elder White.

Like many NBA fathers, star Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White‘s dad Richard is proud of his son and thinks he ought to be an All-Star. Unlike a lot of NBA dads, Richard White has the data behind his claim. “It’s pretty wild,” said the elder White to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss in a recent interview. “He deserves to be listed in there.”

“Whether he gets there or not is immaterial,” White added. “At the end of the day, the votes are going to come in, and he’s going to be somewhere in the top 10. It would be a nice thing or whatever. But in the grand scheme of things, it’s not going to change who he is.”

Still, as with his son, it’s the results of the games that matter most — as well as what happens between the games.

“That’s pretty cool to get to that point where he’s showing his personality, he’s interacting with fans and signing stuff. Those are things that as a parent make you proud,” he explained.

“You’re doing easy things that don’t really take a lot from you, but the look and joy on kid’s faces — people will say my son met your son, and he’s got this big ol’ smile. That as a parent is just, wow.”

Nets’ Mikal Bridges still 10th in NBA Eastern Conference frontcourt All-Star voting

In the third fan returns, Brooklyn Nets guard Mikal Bridges is still 10th in votes among Eastern Conference frontcourt players.

The Brooklyn Nets are in the midst of their worst stretch of this season and it isn’t even close to anything that they’ve experienced earlier in the year. However, one of the players on the team could be looking at a possible All-Star Game bid with the way that the voting is shaking out.

In the third fan returns released by the NBA on Thursday, Nets guard Mikal Bridges is still holding on to his spot with the 10th-most votes among Eastern Conference frontcourt players. In the first fan returns, Bridges had the seventh-most votes and in the second fan returns, he slid to 10th in the voting.

Based on how Brooklyn’s season has been going lately, it’s likely that none of the players, Bridges included, will make it to the All-Star Game because of how much winning is taken into account. Be that as it may, he is still having a good season.

Bridges, 27, is averaging 21.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 44.8% from the field and 34.3% from three-point land. However, one of the reasons that Bridges may not make the All-Star Game is because of how this season is viewed by many as a disappointment given what was expected of him after how he played for the Nets last season.

Modest gains for Celtics starters in third returns for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game fan vote

All five Celtics starters made an appearance in the vote once again, with at least two looking like near-locks to get a nod.

The third round of 2024 NBA All-Star fan voting returns is out, and for the Boston Celtics, some small gains were to be had with the status quo from the last round more or less maintained. All five Celtics starters made an appearance in the vote once again, with at least two looking like near-locks to get a nod.

In the East frontcourt returns, Jayson Tatum remains the top Boston vote-getter with 3.7 million votes. That was good enough for a third-place finish, well behind Giannis Antetokounmpo (4.3 million) and less than 10,000 votes behind Joel Embiid while being well ahead of Jimmy Butler (1.3 million).

After Butler is Jaylen Brown with just under a million votes, with Kristaps Porzingis following him with 567,036 votes, about 20,000 ahead of Bam Adebayo.

In the backcourt, Derrick White came in seventh with 515,882 votes, well behind Jalen Brunson (about 1 million) and with a good lead over LaMelo Ball (441,646 votes). Jrue Holiday was next with 407,126 votes, well ahead of DeMar DeRozan.
