2023 NFL combine schedule, participants, how to watch

Here’s the schedule and participants for the 2023 NFL scouting combine.

The 2023 NFL scouting combine will once again take place at Lucas Oil Stadium and officially kicks off this week as the league gathers for one of the offseason’s biggest events.

While the on-field workouts are important, this is also the time teams use to interview prospects and gain information on medical statuses.

The workouts don’t take place until later in the week on Thursday but will be televised on NFL Network. They also will be streamed on fuboTV (try it free).

Here’s a look at the schedule and participants for the 2023 combine, broken down by position:

2023 NFL Combine Profile: Parker Washington, Wide Receiver

Parker Washington could be primed for a big NFL scouting combine performance.

Penn State has slowly established a solid receiving corp in the NFL and now [autotag]Parker Washington[/autotag] looks to add his name to the group. The dynamic Nittany Lion playmaker saw his fair share of ups and downs during his three years but in 2022 he flashed his best moments and is now riding that momentum into the NFL.

He has a good physical build and the explosive athleticism to dominate the NFL scouting combine. He will be primed for what he hopes is a big week during the combine. He won’t jump into round one but he has a chance to be very close to the top of round two.

Here is a look at Parker Washington as an NFL draft prospect as he prepares to attend the NFL combine in Indianapolis.

2023 NFL Combine Profile: Mitchell Tinsley, Wide Receiver

Check out the profile of Penn State wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley before the 2023 NFL Combine.

Penn State has had some electric wide receivers come through their program and go onto the next level. [autotag]Allen Robinson[/autotag], [autotag]Chris Godwin[/autotag] and [autotag]Jahan Dotson[/autotag] have been impact players for their NFL teams.

Despite spending just one year at Penn State after transferring in from Western Kentucky, [autotag]Mitchell Tinsley[/autotag] was an impact player on the field. The wide receiver room will have a lot of production to replace with the departures of Tinsley and Parker Washington headed to the NFL Draft.

Tinsley will have a lot to prove at the NFL Combine. As an undersized receiver, he’ll have to show he has a trait that can push him from being potentially undrafted, to firmly on team’s draft boards. Tinsley proved he could handle the leap from Conference USA to the Big Ten last year.

Byron Jones issues cautionary tweet ahead of NFL scouting combine

Miami Dolphins CB Byron Jones has a cautionary tweet for prospects ahead of the 2023 NFL scouting combine.

The NFL scouting combine is sometimes referred to affectionately as the “Underwear Olympics.”

Draft prospects typically engage in timing that looks more common every Olympiad with bench-pressing, sprinting, and cone shuttles. However, the annual scouting and evaluation event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis provides NFL teams with the chance to get their hands on prospects for the upcoming draft.

Much like the actual Olympics, the NFL has its own combine records. On the league’s official Twitter account Feb. 24, the NFL contextualized former Dallas Cowboys 2015 first-round pick Byron Jones’ broad jump record of 11 feet, six inches with parking two 2015 Mini Cooper’s side by side.

The former UConn defensive back quote-tweeted the stupendous graphic with some context of his own.

“Much has changed in 8 years,” Jones wrote. “Today I can’t run or jump because of my injuries sustained playing this game. DO NOT take the pills they give you. DO NOT take the injections they give you. If you absolutely must, consult an outside doctor to learn the long-term implications.”

Jones, who signed a five-year, $82 million contract with the Miami Dolphins in 2020, did not play for the AFC East club in 2022 as he was never activated from the physically unable to perform list. Jones had Achilles surgery in the offseason and was never able to pass a physical to return to the Dolphins.

The tweet from Jones also casts doubt as to his future playing in the NFL ever again. The former 2018 Pro Bowler had four interceptions, 444 combined tackles, 11 tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, four forced fumbles, and 57 pass breakups through 109 career games for both Dallas and Miami, 103 of which he started.

Penn State may be bringing back one of its top offensive linemen in 2023 with the return of Olu Fashanu, but the offensive line will be losing a veteran starter with plenty of experience with the departure of [autotag]Juice Scruggs[/autotag]. Scruggs has opted to take his shot at the NFL and will be heading to the NFL combine with a lot to prove to the NFL Scouting community.

Scruggs is a prospect in need of a good showing at the combine in order to climb the big board a bit ahead of the NFL draft. But with his proven versatility at multiple offensive line positions and good all-around skills, there could be much to like about Scruggs as a draft prospect. But he may have to shine a bit at the combine in order to improve his draft projections.

2023 NFL Combine Profile: Brenton Strange, Tight End

Penn State tight end Brenton Strange may have the most at stake at the NFL Combine

Penn State has developed a nice track record of producing NFL tight ends in recent years. Recent tight-end products have included [autotag]Mike Gesicki[/autotag] and [autotag]Pat Freiermuth[/autotag], and [autotag]Brenton Strange[/autotag] looks to follow in their footsteps in the 2023 NFL draft.

Strange has wrapped up his college career at Penn State and will look to catch the eyes of some NFL scouts and coaches searching for a tight end in this year’s draft class. Strange may not be one of the top tight ends off the board like his predecessors, but he could be one of the more interesting names at the position to keep tabs on during the combine as a potential prospect on the rise with a good showing.

2023 NFL Combine Profile: Ji’Ayir Brown, Safety

Ji’Ayir Brown is one of the most interesting safety prospects to watch at the NFL combine.

After coming to Penn State from a junior college program and leaving his mark as a Rose Bowl champion and defensive MVP, safety [autotag]Ji’Ayir Brown[/autotag] is looking to turn some heads at the NFL combine to improve his NFL draft stock as he goes to the next level. Brown will be one of the more intriguing players to watch at the combine as he finds himself as a potential mid-round draft prospect. A good showing at the NFL combine could boost his stock to a possible Day 2 draft pick, while a disappointing performance could sink him into the later rounds.
