Start of LSU’s College World Series opener against Tennessee pushed back due to weather

The Tigers will have to wait 40 minutes longer to begin their run in Omaha.

The rain has seemingly followed the Tigers to Omaha from Baton Rouge.

After a lightning delay in the middle of the first game of the day on Saturday between Wake Forest and Stanford — which the Demon Deacons ultimately rallied to win after the delay — that game didn’t finish on time.

Now, LSU’s first game in the College World Series against Tennessee will begin at 6:40 p.m. CT at Charles Schwab Stadium. It will be a rematch of a regular season series from earlier this spring, which LSU won two games to one.

The winner of Saturday night’s contest will face top overall seed Wake on Monday night in the winners’ bracket. The loser will face the Cardinal in the elimination game on Monday afternoon.

LSU’s SEC showdown in Omaha against the Vols will be televised on ESPN.

LSU fans running away with the Rocco’s Jell-O Shot Challenge at CWS in Omaha

The Tigers are way ahead of the pack so far.

In news that should come as absolutely no surprise, LSU fans are indeed running the show so far at the College World Series Jell-O Shot Challenge at Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina in Omaha.

The annual challenge pits fans from the different CWS programs against each other in a challenge to see who can down the most Jell-O shots, and this year, all the proceeds for the $5 shots are going to both local food banks and food banks representing the communities from the eight CWS teams.

LSU fans are known for traveling extremely well to Omaha, and to the shock of no one, the Tigers’ faithful has a massive early lead. At the noon CT update on Saturday, LSU led the field at 3,395 shots, more than 1,000 more than Wake Forest, which currently sits in second.

LSU opens up its CWS run against Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, and if the Tigers can stick around in Omaha for a while, the bayou representation may be able to push the record set by Ole Miss last fall, which totaled nearly 19,000 Jell-O shots.

How to watch as LSU baseball takes on Tennessee in College World Series opening game on Saturday

The Tigers will begin their run in Omaha against an SEC opponent.

The Tigers have made their way back to their second home in Omaha.

LSU is back in the College World Series for the first time since 2017, and coach Jay Johnson’s team is looking to capture the seventh national title in program history (and the first since 2009).

First up is a matchup against a familiar foe, Tennessee. These two teams faced off in Baton Rouge earlier this season, with LSU taking the regular-season series 2-1. Now, they’ll face each other again to kick off the double-elimination tournament.

The winner of the game between LSU and Tennessee will take on the winner of Wake Forest and Stanford, one of only two opening matchups between national seeds. That game will take place at 1 p.m. CT before the Tigers take the field.

Here’s what you need to know as LSU kicks off its run at the CWS in Omaha against an SEC opponent.

Update: Following a lightning delay during Stanford-Wake Forest, the game has been pushed back to 6:40 p.m. CT

Recapping Day 1 of the College World Series

On Friday, the madness that is the Men’s College World Series was in full swing.

Every team in the NCAA starts its season with the goal of making a trip to Omaha, Nebraska, to play for a national title. On Friday, the madness that is the Men’s College World Series was in full swing.

Oral Roberts and TCU played the first game of the tournament, and it was an instant classic. The Golden Eagles give me the same kind of vibes the 2008 Fresno State Bulldogs did.

Fresno State won it all that year. Can Oral Roberts do the same? It started  with a comeback win to down TCU, 6-5, in the first game of the day.

Florida and Virginia faced off to see who is the best team in Orange and Blue (for now). Florida scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Virginia 6-5.

Here’s how all the action went down on Friday.

Full schedule for 2023 College World Series as LSU looks to win 7th national title

LSU aims to capture its first national title since 2009.

The LSU baseball team will begin its run in Omaha on Saturday against Tennessee at the 2023 College World Series.

It will be the team’s first appearance at the CWS since coming up short as the national runner-up in 2017, and LSU is looking to capture its first national title since 2009 (as well as the seventh overall in program history).

The tournament is set up like a regional, with the eight-team field split into two double-elimination brackets. The two teams to emerge will face each other in a best-of-three national title series.

The action gets going on Friday with the opposite side of the bracket, but LSU will have the day off. Here’s the full schedule for the College World Series as coach [autotag]Jay Johnson[/autotag] looks to capture a national championship in his first trip to Omaha with the Tigers.

All times are listed in CT, and all games will be televised on ESPN (unless noted).

What happened in LSU’s last five trips to the College World Series?

Here’s a look at LSU’s five most recent appearances in Omaha before LSU begins play on Saturday.

LSU’s back in Omaha for the first time since 2017. It’s a longer drought than usual for the Tigers, which, for a 20-year period, were expected to be in the CWS every other year or so.

LSU will also look to end its title drought. A banner hasn’t been hung since the 2009 season.

With the Tigers getting ready to begin play on Saturday, we’ll take a look at their last five trips to Omaha, including that 2009 title run and 2017 when they fell just short.

Let’s jump right in. Here’s what happened the last five times LSU took a trip to the College World Series.

Until the final, it’s an eight-team field and a double-elimination tournament. It follows the same structure as a regional, just twice the size. The two teams that emerge from the tournament then play a best-of-three final.

The final is scheduled for June 24-26.

Before play gets underway, here’s a look at the other teams in LSU’s bracket.

LSU to face Tennessee in College World Series opener

It will be an all-SEC clash to kick things off in Omaha.

After a delay pushed Game 3 of the Hattiesburg Super Regional late into the night on Monday, LSU finally learned who it will face in its first game at the College World Series in Omaha.

Tennessee emerged victorious over host Southern Mississippi, setting up an all-SEC clash between the Tigers and the Volunteers. That game will take place on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.

The Vols dropped Game 1 against the Golden Eagles, which began on Saturday but had to continue on Sunday due to a weather-related postponement. Tennessee trailed 4-0 early in Game 2 but ultimately won 8-4.

Monday night’s decisive Game 3 was all Volunteers as they shut out USM in what became the final game of coach Scott Berry’s career.

LSU and Tennessee played a two-game series in Baton Rouge earlier this season with the Tigers taking that matchup two games to one.
