How are fans of the Boston Celtics feeling about facing the Atlanta Hawks?

Excited to miss the Miami Heat? Concerned they are facing a club capable of beating the Heat in the 7-8 play-in match to face the Celtics? Relaxed at the prospect of having a .500 team in front of Boston in the first round? Or worried they may be facing a sleeping giant under new head coach Quin Snyder?

To take the pulse of the fan base ahead of the anticipated first-round series, the hosts of the CLNS Media “A-List” podcast linked up with Boston super fan Green Runs Deep on a recent episode.

Did the Boston Celtics get lucky to miss the Miami Heat, or are the Atlanta Hawks the better team?

A select subset of the Celtics’ fanbase was actually disappointed by the outcome.

Among fans of the Boston Celtics, the news the club would face the Atlanta Hawks instead of the Miami Heat was generally met with enthusiasm by most fans of the team, but a select subset of the Celtics’ fan base was actually disappointed.

To be fair, the Miami Heat have been something of a nightmare for Boston over their past few postseason meetings, leaving some mental scars that may not quite match the bite of this iteration of the team. But there is a legitimate if non-consensus view that the Celtics may be facing the tougher of the two squads coming out of the 2023 East 7-8 play-in game.

Bobby Manning of the CLNS Media “GArden Report” podcast recently linked up with the Miami Herald’s Wes Goldberg to talk it over.

The Boston Celtics first round series against the Atlanta Hawks in the 2023 NBA Playoffs is officially set, with a full slate of games scheduled with dates, times and locations having been released.

The Boston Celtics first round series against the Atlanta Hawks in the 2023 NBA Playoffs is officially set, with a full slate of games scheduled with dates, times and locations having been released by the league.

The Celtics finished the season in the Eastern Conference’s second-place spot with a 57-25 record that earned them the corresponding seed and won them the Atlantic Division as well. The 41-41 Hawks finished with the East’s seventh seed and then defeated the Miami Heat in the 7-8 play-in game to win the right to face Boston in the first round. The Celtics hold home court advantage in the series and are favored to win it as well.

Let’s dive into the schedule of games for the series.

For Celtics champion Rajon Rondo, it’s finals or bust for Boston

The Ubuntu-era floor general recently made an appearance on ESPN’s popular “First Take” NBA show to talk over the looming postseason.

For Boston Celtics champion Rajon Rondo, it’s finals or bust for the team he hung his first banner with in 2008.

The two-time titlist (Rondo won his second ring with Celtics rival Los Angeles Lakers in the Orlando bubble of 2020) believes Boston would be a big disappointment if it did not get back to the NBA Finals. Of course, the Celtics came within two wins of Banner 18 last season, only to fall to the Golden State Warriors.

The Ubuntu-era floor general recently made an appearance on ESPN’s popular “First Take” NBA show to talk over the looming postseason, and Rondo had plenty to say about his former ball club.

To hear what the onetime Kentucky standout had to say about the Celtics’ expectations in the 2023 NBA playoffs for yourself, take a look at the clip we have embedded below.

Hawks head coach Quin Snyder says the Boston Celtics are ‘really, really hard to guard’

“I think they have a feel for one another and how they play together,” said Snyder.

New Atlanta Hawks head coach Quinn Snyder had some words about his team’s next opponent after defeating the Miami Heat in the 7-8 play-in game and securing a spot in the 2-7 series against the Boston Celtics.

“They’re really connected defensively,” Snyder said via CLNS Media. “I think it’s more than them just having like a lot of weapons.”

“I think they have a feel for one another and how they play together,” added the Hawks head coach. “You can see that in the way they play. Their reads are terrific and they got a lot of guys that can make plays and they want to do that for one another. It makes them really, really hard to guard.”

“I think their versatility defensively is unique also (with) some of the different lineups they can put out,” suggested Snyder.

“I don’t know who the Defensive Player of the Year will be this year, but I know Marcus Smart, (and) I have tons of respect for him. I just think he’s one of those guys that’s a heartbeat — they’re just really good.”

Is there a chance the Miami Heat could beat the Boston Celtics in the first round?

Of course, they’d need to make the playoffs — but if they do, is a win set in stone for Boston?

There is a very good chance the Boston Celtics will end up playing the Miami Heat in the first round of the NBA’s 2023 Eastern Conference playoffs. The Heat and Atlanta Hawks are set to battle in the league’s play-in tournament for the right to play the Celtics.

And while this version of Miami may not be quite as dangerous as some Boston has faced in past seasons, any team with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro on the court and Erik Spoelstra helming the club from the sidelines needs to be taken seriously.

The Boston Celtics may not yet know which team they will be playing in the first round of the 2023 NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs but they do know when and where that contest will take place.

The Celtics officially have their start date to their next run on an NBA title, which will begin in earnest this weekend. It will be played against the winner of the Miami Heat – Atlanta Hawks play-in game that is taking place on this Tuesday, April 11, and will take place at the Celtics’ home court of TD Garden at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 15.

The series will have Boston holding homecourt advantage, and while we have yet to get the full schedule in terms of dates and times, will likely be one day on, and then another day off most contests, with the home-home-away-away (and home-away-home if needed) best-of-7 format the framework for those dates.

Is a Boston Celtics-Miami Heat first-round series inevitable?

Might not the Hawks surprise us all and pull out the upset over a still dangerous but lesser version of a Miami squad?

While there is still a chance the Boston Celtics could find themselves facing the Atlanta Hawks and new head coach Quin Snyder in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs, it is more likely they end up playing the Miami Heat.

One of those clubs will emerge from the league’s 2023 play-in tourney with the honor of facing the second-seeded Celtics.

Might not the Hawks surprise us and stage the upset over a still dangerous Miami squad diminished by age, injury and roster position imbalance?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “A-List” podcast convened for a recent episode and shared their thoughts on the inevitability of a series between Boston and Miami.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear what they think might be coming down the postseason pike for the Celtics.
