Social media reactions to the commitment of 4-star EDGE Colton Vasek to the Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners went into Austin and picked up a commitment from 2023 4-star defensive end Colton Vasek, and Sooners fans loved it.

Blue chip prospect after blue chip prospect, Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners are putting together quite the recruiting class. The Sooners have kept the momentum they built in July going as the calendar turned to August, with their latest commitment coming from 2023 4-star defensive end [autotag]Colton Vasek[/autotag].

It’s another in a line of commitments the Oklahoma Sooners have landed in a little over a month. From June 30 to August 1, the Sooners added 11 commitments, nine of which were four-star prospects.

Brent Venables and his staff are rolling right now, and OU is beginning to see the fruit of their labors. In particular, Miguel Chavis and Todd Bates are starting to close on their targets, adding elite talent to the Oklahoma Sooners’ defensive front.

With several more commitments coming in the month of August, the Sooners will be in a great spot to end the 2023 cycle with the best recruiting class in the modern era of recruiting.

With Colton Vasek on board, the Sooners are back up to No. 6 in the country according to 247Sports composite team recruiting rankings, and Sooner Nation was loving it. Let’s take a look at some of the best reactions on social media.

Oklahoma Sooners receive crystal ball for 4-star DB Makari Vickers

The Sooners’ hot July continues with yet another crystal ball for yet another blue-chip prospect in DB Makari Vickers

The Oklahoma Sooners’ hot month continues as they received a crystal ball from OUInsider at 247Sports’ Brandon Drumm for four-star defensive back Makari Vickers.

The big safety has been playing varsity football in Florida since his sophomore year of high school. He’s seen playing time at both corner and safety.

On July 12, Vickers put Oklahoma, Michigan, and Alabama in his top three schools, and with another crystal projection, the Sooners seem to be in a great spot to land the highly-regarded defensive back.

Should he end up committing to OU, Vickers would join another four-star DB, Jasiah Wagoner. Wagoner is the only defensive back committed to the Sooners for the 2023 class as of now. Landing these blue chip recruits in prime SEC country before going to the SEC would be huge for this OU program.

Makari Vickers’ Recruiting Profile

Projections

  • No current FutureCasts from Rivals
  • On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine still has Florida State as the leader for Vickers, but the Seminoles were not in his top three schools.
  • Drumm’s crystal ball projection is the second from OUInsider. Parker Thune previously projected the Sooners to land the four-star DB.

3 days, 3 commitments: Oklahoma Sooners land four-star EDGE Adepoju Adebawore

The Sooners come on top as EDGE Adepoju Adebawore commits to Oklahoma Sunday.

If you’re reading this, we can assure you it’s not a dream. The commitments have come on consecutive days that it almost feels like deja vu. However, the fact of the matter is this, Oklahoma has landed another commitment.

We are now at three consecutive days with the Oklahoma Sooners receiving a commitment. If you’re counting at home it’s five commitments since the 4th of July. This one is another defender as four-star EDGE Adepoju Adebawore out of Kansas City, Missouri commits to the Oklahoma Sooners on Sunday evening.

Adebawore was firmly entrenched in a recruiting battle that had the Sooners competing with Northwestern and Missouri. Obviously, neither school supports the football pedigree in any capacity compared to Oklahoma but Adebawore’s brother plays at Northwestern and Missouri is the home state school.

Ultimately, the allure of playing for one of the best programs in the nation and being coached by an elite defensive staff  won out.

Adebawore’s pledge marks the first major commitment for first-year defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis. Chavis lands the first Top 100 commit of his tenure at Oklahoma. Chavis has energy and passion and it has resonated with edge defenders on the recruiting trail since taking over.

Adebawore also is another representation of the types of defensive ends the Sooners want in Crimson & Cream under Brent Venables. At 6-foot-4, with a 7-foot wingspan, he looks closer to the defensive ends you see in the SEC in terms of the physical makeup which has been a major emphasis since Venables and Co. took over.

Adebwore is surely not the only EDGE the Sooners hope to land in this class but his commitment marks a fantastic start. Four-star Tausili Akana is a major priority for the Sooners off the EDGE as well.

Top 100 defensive end Adepoju Adebawore’s top 5 has the Sooners right in the thick of it

Oklahoma makes the cut for top 100 edge defender Adepoju Adebawore out of Missouri.

As July draws ever closer, things are starting to pick up across the board in the recruiting world. Lists are being trimmed down significantly with most recruits having a good five to seven teams that they are concentrated on. A lot of the 2023 class has already taken their official visits, using the month of June for those.

Oklahoma’s list of targets that seem to be slowly winding their recruitment down is fairly long at this point in the summer and one major name that they are paying attention to is four-star defensive end Adepoju Adebawore out of Kansas City, Missouri. 247Sports has him ranked 98th in their composite rankings and he is the fifth-ranked player in the state of Missouri.

Miguel Chavis has stayed the course and has the Sooners in a great spot with Adebawore and it reflects in his top 5 schools he released. He also simultaneously announcing he would be committing soon.

Along with the Sooners. Adebawore feels at home with Georgia, Northwestern, LSU, and Missouri as these schools round out his top 5. With no official date set in stone, we’re still wondering when his commitment will take place. Sooners’ defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis could very well kick his 2023 class off with a major win on the recruiting trail. We don’t know Adebawore’s final destination just yet but if the crystal ball predictions are any indicator, the Oklahoma Sooners have a lot to be smiling about.

Adepoju Adebawore’s Recruiting Profile

Projections

  • On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Sooners a 91.3% chance at landing Adebawore.
  • No Rivals furturecast predictions at this time.
  • Crystal ball predictions from OUInsider’s Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune have Adebawore headed to the Sooners.
