Oklahoma Sooners pick up commitment from another five-star recruit for 2023

The Oklahoma Sooners get great news with the commitment of another five-star wide receiver for the 2023 recruiting class.

The Oklahoma Sooners received some excellent news in the midst of their preparation for the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Sooners landed the commitment of five-star wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. Moore joins the number one ranked recruiting class in the nation for 2023 and also joins his Los Alamitos High School teammates in the Sooners 2023 class. Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon virtually kickstarted this recruiting class with their pledges this summer.

Oklahoma has bounced back from a rough 6 months of recruiting wide receivers in the 2022 class by landing three five-star talents to play receiver starting in 2023. They may not be done at receiver either. There are still a few names like Jalen Hale, that may be in contention for a spot in this class as well.

The Sooners 2023 class is rivaling that of classes Oklahoma has not brought in since 2005 when 247Sports listed them as having the no. 3 overall class in the entire country. However, at this pace Oklahoma could very well finish with the number one class. There’s a quite a bit of time between now and the signing days for the 2023 players but with this level of recruiting prowess Oklahoma could parlay this into a few other commits.

With the exception of maybe two or three other prospects Oklahoma’s skill positions on offense are all but solidified. They will look to recruit on both sides of the line and build out their linebackers and secondary throughout the fall and spring for the 2023 class.

Lincoln Riley and his coaching staff are on fire on the recruiting trail and don’t expect it to slow down anytime soon with this type of momentum.

Social media reactions to Makai Lemon’s commitment to the Sooners

Some of the best reactions from social media to Makai Lemon’s commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Oklahoma Sooners 2023 recruiting class continues to add top talent with the addition of Makai Lemon. With Malachi Nelson, Luke Hasz and Treyaun Webb already committed, Lemon joins a stacked group of skill position players that will assuredly grow over the next year and a half.

Lemon is an explosive athlete who can create big plays after the catch. His connection with Nelson from their time at Los Alamitos High School should help him hit the ground running when he arrives on campus in a couple of years.

Lincoln Riley continues to show why he’s one of the hottest recruiters in the country. His offense alone is a draw to high school and college players around the country. With DeAndre Moore’s crystal ball pointing to the Sooners, another five-star product from Los Alamitos may head to Norman as well.

As we did with Luke Hasz, let’s check out the best Twitter reactions to  Lemon’s commitment.

What are the Sooners getting in five-star athlete Makai Lemon?

What are the Oklahoma Sooners getting from five-star athlete from Los Alamitos, Makai Lemon?

The Oklahoma Sooners landed another top-tier talent in the 2023 recruiting cycle in five-star wide receiver Makai Lemon. With his addition, OU now has the No. 1 class in the 2023 Team Rankings. Lemon chose the Sooners over USC, Alabama, Georgia, Texas and many other elite programs.

He is the top ranked athlete in the country and the No. 15 overall player according to 247Sports.

Oklahoma’s future signal caller likely played a factor in his decision. Lemon will join recent Oklahoma five-star quarterback commit Malachi Nelson in Norman. The two were teammates at Los Alamitos High School in California and will be reunited at the college ranks.

As a sophomore, Lemon amassed 43 receptions for 756 yards and nine touchdowns. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound playmaker averaged 17.6 yards per reception according to MaxPreps and his speed will impact OU’s vertical attack. His main upside is versatility, a trait that Lincoln Riley covets. Lemon is a two-way star that can play both cornerback and receiver at a high level.

He has tremendous short area quickness and is a natural pass catcher. Lemon has tremendous body control to adjust to the ball in flight and will elevate Riley’s spread attack. His familiarity and chemistry with Nelson will accelerate his growth and breed success between the hashmarks.

With the 2023 recruiting cycle already off to a great start with Treyaun Webb and Malachi Nelson, more fireworks could be headed the Sooners’ way.

The Oklahoma Sooners have already started off the 2023 recruiting cycle with a bang. A few weeks ago, they landed Treyaun Webb, a four-star athlete out of Florida, to kick off the 2023 recruiting class. Then 2023’s number two overall quarterback Malachi Nelson committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.

As the 2023 recruiting cycle continues, Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners will continue to land big-time players for their recruiting class. 247Sports dropped their latest crystal ball projection for five-star athlete Makai Lemon out of Los Alamitos, California.

OU Insider recruiting analysts Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune both have Lemon headed to the Sooners with a high confidence level. 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins also sees Lemon going to the Sooners with a high confidence level. What’s interesting is that USC recruiting analyst Gerard Martinez puts Lemon to the Sooners but only has a medium level of confidence that’s where the five-star recruit will land.

Overall, 247Sports projects Lemon to the Sooners with a confidence score of eight, which is pretty high. Lemon, a teammate of Malachi Nelson, could end up following his Los Alamitos brethren to Norman to continue the success they’ve had in high school.

Drawing a comparison to the NFL’s Robert Woods, Biggins of 247 Sports provided this scouting report.

Lemon is a very good looking young player with a ton of upside. He has an athletic frame with some growth potential and should have no issues filling out and adding good weight down the road. He’s a twitchy two-way athlete who shows elite upside as a receiver or a cornerback. He has good short area quickness, change of direction, runs well after the catch and is a natural pass catcher. He has excellent body control and a smooth, natural feel for the position. As a corner, he’s a tough kid who can run, make plays down the field and is physical in run support. He works hard off the field and has all the tools to project as a Power 5 starter and future high round NFL draft pick. – Biggins

Thus far, Makai Lemon has 100 receptions for 1,540 yards and 14 touchdowns over two seasons in his high school career. On the defensive side of the football, he has eight interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Makai Lemon is expected to make his commitment known on August seventh, which could be another great day for the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trail in the Summer of 2021.
