Fantasy football: Where to draft Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb

Analyzing Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb’s 2023 fantasy football ADP and where to target him in fantasy drafts.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Cleveland Browns haven’t made a lot of noise this offseason, indicating that they believe in their current squad to make some noise in a tough AFC North. The cornerstone of their offense is RB Nick Chubb as the Browns will be counting on his dominance in the backfield to help them have a successful season.

Below, we look at Nick Chubb’s 2023 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

All indications are that the connection between QB Deshaun Watson and WR Amari Cooper will be very solid, but the Cleveland offense still will only go as far as Chubb can take the Browns. With the loss of RB Kareem Hunt to free agency this offseason — still unsigned — the talented RB duo of Chubb and Hunt is broken up, but that is great news for fantasy owners.

The Browns have liked what they’ve seen from 2nd-year RB Jerome Ford, but it seems as if his role this season will mostly consist of 3rd-down plays and some receiving targets. He likely won’t get as many looks as Hunt did, meaning those looks will go to Chubb.

Look for the Browns to lean on Chubb for the vast majority of their red-zone plays and rushing yards this season.

Nick Chubb’s ADP: 18.23

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Chubb’s current ADP projects him to be an early 2nd-round pick in most leagues. He ranks 5th in ADP among running backs, which is a little low considering who’s above him and the loss of Hunt. Chubb will get more carries this season because the Browns won’t have Hunt to lean on as an RB2, giving Chubb more opportunities in the red zone.

Keep an eye on Detroit Lions rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs, who is the 7th-ranked back with an ADP of 25.94. I am high on the Georgia Tech product as I believe his versatility in the running and passing games will lead to him having a great rookie campaign, but I would not draft him above Chubb.

There is a rookie running who ranks above Chubb. Bijan Robinson, who was drafted 8th overall — and the first RB taken in the 2023 NFL Draft — by the Atlanta Falcons, has an ADP of 8.60. That has the former Texas Longhorn star with the 4th-best ADP among all players. Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson (2.76 ADP), Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase (5.25) and San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (6.08) are the top 4.

I expect Robinson will get a lot of touches and will have a phenomenal rookie campaign, but I’m not quite sold on drafting him over Chubb, who is already solidified as a great fantasy back.

Even with his ADP putting Chubb as the 5th-best fantasy back, I believe he is at least 4th. Following McCaffrey and Robinson, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley ranks 3rd (15.58) and Austin Ekeler of the Los Angeles Chargers (9.72) is 4th.

Where should you draft Chubb?

Last season Chubb finished 3rd in rushing yards in the NFL, 128 yards behind Las Vegas Raiders RB Josh Jacobs and 13 yards behind Derrick Henry of the Tennessee Titans.

Chubb isn’t the type of receiver to get a lot of looks in the passing game, but he should get more nods in the rushing game this season than ever before.

Expect Chubb to put up very similar numbers to a season ago and look for him to see his role increased slightly with Hunt out of the picture, Chubb should have another career year and eclipse 300 rushing attempts and 1,500 rushing yards for the 2nd straight season.

Chubb has shown no signs of decline and does not have a lot of injury history, meaning he is a very reliable back.

Draft Chubb with a late 1st-round pick or very early 2nd-round pick and feel confident having him as an RB1. There are very few backs I would take over Chubb and his ADP agrees.

If you land with Chubb as your RB1 you should be very happy.

Fantasy football: Where to draft New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson

Analyzing New York Jets WR Garrett Wilson’s 2023 fantasy football ADP and where to target him in fantasy drafts.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson made an immediate impact for the New York Jets as a rookie in 2022, being named the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year. Below, we look at Garrett Wilson‘s 2023 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Believing that last year’s Jets team was just a QB away from making the playoffs, New York brought in a future Hall-Of-Fame QB to remedy that. Even with 3 different QBs starting in 2022, Wilson put up great rookie numbers, and with Aaron Rodgers now throwing him the ball, those numbers are expected to be even better.

Another outstanding rookie for New York last year was CB Sauce Gardner, who was named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. Another year of going head-to-head against Gardner in practice will also help Wilson improve, and you’ll see it in his numbers this year.

Garrett Wilson’s ADP: 21.78

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Wilson’s ADP projects him being drafted in the middle-late 2nd round for most leagues. He ranks 9th in ADP among WRs, a little low given the addition of Rodgers, but still good value for his production. Indications are that Wilson and Rodgers have a strong connection so far, another reason to expect an even better sophomore year than his rookie season.

Taking Wilson early in the 2nd round isn’t a big reach if some other top WR1’s are already off the board. Right above in ADP is Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown at No.  8 (17.42) with Las Vegas Raiders WR Davante Adams 10th (21.68). Taking Wilson over either of them is not a stretch, as  WR Jameson Williams will get a lot of looks in the Lions offense and there are questions about Adams’ connection to new QB Jimmy Garropolo.

Where should you draft Wilson?

Wilson’s fantasy value will obviously get a boost with the addition of Rodgers.

There are about 7-9 WRs I would draft ahead of Wilson, but he is a very good WR1 option for a lot of fantasy teams. The Jets have a lot of versatility in their offense with Rodgers and return of 2nd-year RB Breece Hall from injury, but Wilson will still be the biggest threat in the passing game.

In most leagues Wilson will be a very good WR1 who should be available in the 2nd round for teams taking a RB or TE in Round 1. If you are in a bigger league, say 14 teams, and Wilson is available as an early 2nd-round pick; do not hesitate to grab him. He and Rodgers will have a great connection that will result in a lot of targets.

Fantasy football: Where to draft Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler

Analyzing Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler’s 2023 fantasy football ADP and where to target him in fantasy drafts.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

One of the major stories of the offseason throughout the NFL was the running back free agency market, and Austin Ekeler was one the backs upset with his contract situation. With Ekeler looking for a new contract that it seems the Chargers aren’t willing to pay him, he will be playing to try to prove something this season while also putting out film to the other 31 teams in the NFL.

Below, we look at Austin Ekeler‘s 2023 fantasy football average draft position (ADP) and where you should draft him.

Ekeler is a top back because of the amount of touches he gets in both the running and passing games, as he eclipsed 200 rushing attempts and 125 passing targets last year. Ekeler is one of the favorite targets for QB Justin Herbert in a very talented Chargers offense. He has been a top fantasy back for each of the last 2 years, and I expect nothing less from him entering the 2023 season.

Austin Ekeler’s ADP: 11.29

(ADP data courtesy of MyFantasyLeague.com; last updated at time of this publishing – ADPs continually change as more drafts occur)

Ekeler’s ADP of 11.29 has him being drafted in the late 1st round of most leagues, which to me makes sense, given the amount of touchdowns Ekeler gets combined with his versatility in both the passing and running games.

The only backs with ADPs lower than Ekeler are San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey at 6.82 and Atlanta Falcons rookie RB Bijan Robinson at 7.84. Robinson’s ADP being higher than Ekeler’s is a little surprising to me as he is a rookie, and the Falcons’ backfield is very talented, but many people are projecting Robinson to get 300+ touches this year.

Where should you draft Ekeler?

Ekeler’s fantasy value should get a boost this year given his contract situation and the versatility of the Chargers’ offense. I would feel very confident having Ekeler as a RB1 because of his versatility and touchdown numbers.

If McCaffrey is already off the board when you come up in the 1st round, you should take Ekeler. He has finished 4th or better in RB fantasy points in 3 of the past 4 seasons, and his 18 total touchdowns last year ranked 1st in the league. He drops a couple spots in non-PPR formats because you can’t count on him for 18 TDs again this year.

Ekeler isn’t the type of back that will get 1,500+ rushing yards, but he will get a lot of targets in the passing game, which is great for PPR leagues.

The Chargers have a lot of threats in the passing game with WR Mike Williams and WR Keenan Allen, but what helps Ekeler’s draft stock is how many red-zone looks he gets. He is really the only viable threat in the running game for Los Angeles as well.
