Can the Boston Celtics find a way to win Game 5 vs the Miami Heat?

Have the Celtics rediscovered their defensive identity just in the nick of time?

With their backs against the wall, the Boston Celtics pulled out a gutsy 116-99 win over the Miami Heat in Game 4 of their 2023 Eastern Conference finals Tuesday night to stave off elimination another day. Every single game for them moving forward will be do-or-die for the rest of the series in a 1-3 deficit, with a razor-thin margin of error to work with moving forward.

However, also in Game 4, the Celtics were playing like the team they were advertised to be for much of the 2022-23 NBA season, but with some of the defensive edge and intensity we saw in last year’s unit. Have the Celtics rediscovered their defensive identity just in the nick of time? Can the Celtics swing this series back in their favor?

Join the hosts of the CLNS Media “Vitamin Cs” podcast with Tim Sheils and Wayne “Breezie” Brown as they discuss following a win in Game 4 in the video embedded below.

Celtics injury update: Malcolm Brogdon playing through injury; Gabe Vincent out for Game 5

A pair of injuries have struck the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat in key backcourt players.

A pair of injuries have struck key backcourt players for the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat according to recent reports.

For the Celtics, the Athletic’s Jared Weiss shared veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon has been playing with an injured arm since Game 1 of the 2023 East finals. Weiss reports Brogdon tore a tendon in his arm in the series opener, which would explain why a 44.4% 3-point shooter has gone 3-of-14 from beyond the arc.

On the Heat side, the Athletic’s Shams Charania reports point guard Gabe Vincent will miss Game 5 due to an ankle sprain sustained in Game 4.

Though each loss is not a minor issue for either team, the Celtics’ depth will perhaps grant them a slight edge over the Heat, who are already down two key contributors, Victor Oladipo and Tyler Herro.

For Boston, down 3-1 in the series, simply having more capable bodies could be enough to force a Game 6 if the team comes out and plays with the same level of cohesion and focus as they did in Game 4.

Can the Boston Celtics’ Game 4 win over the Miami Heat give the Celtics something to build on in the series?

Anything that improves on the first three games of the series — all losses for Boston — is a plus.

Can the Boston Celtics’ Game 4 win over the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference finals give the Celtics something to build on in the series? The importance of key players performing at their best during the playoffs is literally the difference between one team advancing and the other going home, so anything that improves on the first three games of the series — all losses for Boston — is a plus.

And that is the tack taken by “Old Man and the 3” podcast host and former NBAer JJ Redick on a recent episode of his show. Redick explains that while Jayson Tatum had a great night, contributions from Al Horford, Marcus Smart, Derrick White, and Grant Williams were crucial to the win and forward momentum.

To hear Redick’s point of view on Boston’s potential to steal more wins in the series vs. the Heat, take a look at the clip embedded above.

The one thing the Boston Celtics MUST change to mount a historic comeback

The Celtics will need to dig deeper if they want to make history and advance to the 2023 NBA Finals.

Despite facing a massive, 0-3 deficit in their 2023 Eastern Conference finals series against the Miami Heat, the Boston Celtics put forth a great effort fueled by defensive hustle, increased focus, playing together on defense, and improved passing. But even with all of this, the Heat were in the game until the latter half of the final frame of the contest, hinting that the Celtics will need to dig deeper if they want to make history and advance to the 2023 NBA Finals.

According to the folks behind the Heat Check YouTube channel, the one glaring issue hindering Boston’s chances of a comeback is Jalen Brown’s poor performance in the series thus far.

Can the Cal alum turn his fortunes around in this round without harming the progress we have seen overall from Boston in Game 4?

We will find out on Thursday night at TD Garden as Game 5 gets underway; take a look at the clip embedded above for the finer points of this argument.

Do the Boston Celtics have a legit chance to make a comeback after winning Game 4?

How much of a chance does Boston really have to punch their ticket to the 2023 NBA Finals?

What are the realistic chances of the Boston Celtics staging a remarkable comeback to win their 2023 Eastern Conference finals series with the Miami Heat after their Game 4 triumph on the road? With Boston the No. 2 seed and Miami the No. 8, the case can be made that this is perhaps the best scenario yet out of 150 failed prior attempts to do what has been impossible.

So, given the Celtics’ performance in Game 4 and the potential comeback prospects of the storied ball club that is, at least on paper, the more talented of the two ball clubs, how much of a chance does Boston really have to punch their ticket to the 2023 NBA Finals?

The eponymous hosts of ESPN’s “Keyshawn, JWill, and Max” show debated it on a recent episode.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear where they came down on the Celtics’ prospects of advancing.

How the Boston Celtics kept their season alive in Game 4, what to expect in Game 5

The victory brought some encouraging signs for the Celtics, but questions remain about the team’s future adjustments.

In a crucial Game 4 against the Miami Heat, the Boston Celtics managed to secure a win, preventing a potential sweep of their East Finals series and keeping their season alive. The victory brought some encouraging signs for the Celtics, as they showed improved ball movement and a sense of urgency for the first time since the last round.

The team’s defense played a key role, setting the foundation for their success. Grant Williams provided a boost off the bench, while the Celtics’ improved offensive performance included cuts, paint touches, and involvement from all players on the court. However, questions remain about the team’s future adjustments.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast recently sat down after the game to talk over all of the above.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about the plucky Game 4 win, and what they hope to see in Game 5.

‘I’m proud of our group,’ says Jaylen Brown of Celtics’ Game 4 win vs. Miami

“We want to make sure that we stayed together. We wanted to make sure that we looked each other in the eye and came out today and put our best foot forward,” said Brown.

In Game 3 of the Boston Celtics‘ Eastern Conference final with the Miami Heat, it looked as if Game 4 was going to be the last of their 2022-23 campaign.

However, the Celtics found a way to win Game 4.

“When you get to this point down 3-0, you see locker rooms and teams start to go in the other direction,” star forward Jaylen Brown said after the win via CLNS Media. “We want to make sure that we stayed together. We wanted to make sure that we looked each other in the eye and came out today and put our best foot forward. I’m proud of our group for doing that because you see teams with their back against the wall and you see they just collapse.

“We wanted to stay together,” he continued. “I think that was the emphasis last night before we played today — making sure we were on the same page.”

“We didn’t want to come out and lay an egg,” suggested Brown of the Celtics’ season-saving performance.

“We wanted to come out and play together, wanted to come out and trust each other, come out and play some defense, have some pride about yourself, and find a way to win a game. We’re all more than capable of doing it.

Celtics Lab 196: Boston lives to fight another day, force Game 5 at home

What was different for Boston in this game that was missing in the prior three contests?  Most importantly, can they win another game now that the series heads back to Boston?

Somehow, despite the odds being against their even winning one game in the 2023 East finals after dropping the first three contests, the Boston Celtics won Game 4 against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night.

Now, the Celtics need to repeat that feat three more times over the next six days, a tall task given the 150 previous attempts to do the same in NBA history have come up short.

Is there a legitimate path to such an outcome, or are fans getting deep into their copium stash? Did Joe Mazzulla save his job or will he still be on the hot seat? What was different for Boston in this game that was missing in the prior three contests? Most importantly, can it win another game as the series heads back to Boston?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast did their best to wrap their heads around the improbable win and what it means for the short-term future and beyond.
