Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains at No. 4 in All-Star voting for Western Conference guards

The top four remain the same.

The NBA released the second update on fan All-Star voting on Thursday, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander remains at No. 4 among Western Conference guards.

The top four are in the same order as the first update: Stephen Curry (3,901,808 votes), Luka Doncic (3,649,647 votes), Ja Morant (1,397,102 votes) and Gilgeous-Alexander (1,338,764).

ImageFan votes account for 50%. Players and media each account for 25% of the vote total. The five players — two guards and three frontcourt players — with the most votes in each conference will be named All-Star starters.

Gilgeous-Alexander trails Morant by 58,338 votes, a significantly larger gap than in the first release, which was 3,733 votes.

It looks increasingly likely Gilgeous-Alexander stays at No. 4. If that’s the case, his All-Star chances will rely on the 30 NBA head coaches voting him in as a reserve, which should happen.

In 37 games, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 30.8 points on 50.1% shooting, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds. The next fan voting update is Jan. 19.

With Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown each coming in fourth in fan voting, will the Boston Celtics field an All-Star starter?

This Thursday afternoon, the league released the results from the first round of 2023 NBA All-Star Game fan voting returns.

On Thursday afternoon, the league released the first results of 2023 NBA All-Star Game fan voting returns. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are among the top vote-getters in the first wave of returns, so it seems likely the Celtics will have at least that many All-Stars this season.

But the fan votes make up of only 50% of the total vote pool for All-Star starter selections. The media and players each contribute a quarter of the overall vote.

In the first wave of fan voting results that were released, Tatum and Brown are fourth in frontcourt and backcourt voting, respectively.

With this in mind, how many Celtics are likely to be starters in the 2023 All-Star Game?

On the most recent episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, the hosts and guest Michael Mulford of Bulls Wire and SI’s Dallas Basketball got into the early expectations for All-Star voting and their projected starters, as well as a look ahead to games against the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear their views on potential Boston 2023 All-Star starters and what lies ahead this week for the Celtics.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown land fourth in early All-Star fan voting

Could Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown be named All-Star starters this year? Initial fan voting results say not so fast.

Voting for the 2022-23 NBA All-Star Game is underway, and the Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are firmly in the mix according to the first batch of fan voting results that were released today. Tatum and Brown are fourth at their respective positions and have a chance to earn starter honors.

Fan voting accounts for 50% of the total vote pool for All-Star starter selections. Media and player tallies each own a quarter of the vote. Voting will continue until Jan. 21, and starters for the ’22-23 NBA All-Star Game will be revealed during a televised special on Jan. 26.

Tatum is fourth in fan voting behind Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid among Eastern Conference frontcourt vote-getters. Tatum trails Embiid by about 48,000 fan votes and is hoping to earn the fourth All-Star nod of his career.

Jaylen Brown, meanwhile, trails Kyrie Irving, Donovan Mitchell and James Harden in backcourt voting. Brown is down 600,000 votes to Mitchell, who is second among guards in the fan vote.

NBA All-Star teams consist of two guards and three frontcourt players. Brown hopes to make his second appearance at the NBA’s annual All-Star Game.

Both Tatum and Brown look like locks to make the All-Star Game in Salt Lake City this year. Whether they start is undecided.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander receives fourth-most All-Star votes among West guards

SGA is behind Steph Curry, Luka Doncic and Ja Morant.

The NBA released the first fan returns for All-Star voting on Thursday.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (911,774) ranks fourth among Western Conference guards for total votes. Gilgeous-Alexander trails Ja Morant (915,507), Luka Doncic (2,388,502) and Stephen Curry (2,715,520).

Fan votes account for 50%. Players and media each account for 25% of the vote total. The five players — two guards and three frontcourt players — with the most votes in each conference will be named All-Star starters.

In 34 games, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 30.9 points on 61.5 true shooting percentage, 5.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds.

Overall, the fourth spot is about where someone could’ve reasonably predicted Gilgeous-Alexander would land among Western Conference guards.

Curry and Doncic are monsters with huge fanbases and are having great seasons while Morant has the clout to beat out Gilgeous-Alexander. There’s an outside shot Gilgeous-Alexander could jump Morant, but I expect him to finish fourth by the end of voting.

The next fan voting update will be provided on Jan. 12. The All-Star game is scheduled to be played on Feb. 19.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on possible All-Star selection: ‘It would be an honor’

“It would be an honor and fun for sure.”

Following the Oklahoma City Thunder’s win against the Portland Trail Blazers, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was asked what it would mean for him to be selected into the All-Star game for the first time in his career this season.

Gilgeous-Alexander sounded as though he’d be grateful for the chance to play for and against the best players in the league in February.

“Yeah it would be an honor,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “It’s something that I know I dream about (and) every kid in the world dreams about (when) playing basketball. It would be an honor and fun for sure.”

If he continues to play at his current pace, it’s easy to build an argument as to why Gilgeous-Alexander should make the All-Star game — even if the Thunder are below .500 and not in the playoff picture by then.

In 29 games, Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 31.2 points on 49.8% shooting, 5.7 assists and 4.7 rebounds. Those are easily All-Star numbers and should be enough to get the 24-year-old his first career bid.
