The Boston Celtics got a good grade for their trade for Kristaps Porzingis this past NBA offseason

Given the results, it’s hard to see how the deal would be graded much lower.

The Boston Celtics got a good grade for their trade for Kristaps Porzingis this past NBA offseason. And given the deal was a significant part of the Celtics finally breaking through to win Banner 18 after several near misses over the past few years, it is hard to make a case that they should not.

Bleacher Report NBA analyst Zach Buckley recently laid out why Boston’s front office should be held in high esteem for pulling the trigger on a risky move that also sent a beloved player to another team. “Hoops historians will, of course, wonder how the (Celtics) were allowed to commit legalized larceny,” writes Buckley.

“Between the massive impact Porzingis made on arrival and the struggles of (Marcus) Smart to find his footing … outside of Boston, folks will never believe the Celtics walked away from this deal with a pair of first-round picks, too,” he adds.

The deal was not without its faults — KP did miss more of the 2024 NBA Playoffs than he appeared in — but “this is a trade that Boston would make 11 times out of 10 if given the opportunity,” says the B/R analyst, even considering how his current recovery from surgery will have him out months.

“The Celtics viewed him as their potential missing piece, and that’s exactly how he looked whenever he suited up … it’s hard to find many faults with this move.”

Final grade? A well-deserved A-.

How the Celtics dominated the 2023-24 season

ESPN’S Tim Legler dives into what made the Boston Celtics such a dominant force during the 2023-24 NBA season.

The Boston Celtics tore through the NBA en route to their 2024 NBA Championship. They dropped 18 of their 82 regular season games and only tasted defeat on three occasions throughout the postseason, holding their opponents to under 100 points in 11 of 19 outings. Joe Mazzulla’s team also ranked first in offensive rating and second in defensive rating, making them the toughest opponent in the NBA.

In a recent episode of the “All NBA Podcast,” ESPN’s Tim Legler discussed the Celtics’ dominance and delved into the little details that made them a titan in the league. He also broke down Boston’s game-five win over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.

Brad Stevens has retained the majority of the roster for the upcoming season. Only Oshae Brissett hasn’t re-signed with the franchise. As such, the Celtics are positioned to repeat next season and emerge as the league’s new dynasty.

Why wasn’t Kendrick Perkins invited to the Boston Celtics duck boat parade?

The comments he made on ESPN throughout the season may have played a role.

Why wasn’t Kendrick Perkins invited to the Boston Celtics duck boat parade? On the latest episode of the CLNS Media “Cedric Maxwell Podcast, the eponymous host Cedric, his cohost Josue Pavon, and guest Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe discussed the way Perkins is perceived in Boston after comments he made on ESPN throughout the season.

After historically dominant regular season, Boston upped ante to end campaign with Banner 18

What went into the Celtics winning the 2024 NBA Championship?

After a historically dominant regular season, the Boston Celtics upped the ante to end their campaign with Banner 18. What went into the Celtics winning the 2024 NBA Championship?

Plenty of individual sacrifice, a lot of teamwork, adding some new faces to the roster (and saying goodbye to several beloved faces in the process), and a whole lot of growth up and down the roster and on the coaching bench, to name a few such examples. The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast, Adam Kaufman and Evan Valenti, recently sat down with guest Dan Greenberg to discuss Banner 18, the development of Tatum and Brown, and Joe Mazzulla’s emergence as a great head coach.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

Boston Hall of Famer Bob Cousy wants to attend the hanging of Banner 18

With a condition or two he has more than earned in our estimation.

When they say you are a Boston Celtic for life, few people can say it louder than 95-year-old Celtics Hall of Famer Bob Cousy. The original Houdini of the Hardwood made that even clearer when he set the conditions for attending the Celtics’ celebration for finally winning Banner 18 this fall on opening night.

“It’s something I would love to participate in, but I would have one condition,” said Cooz via Boston Dot Com’s Khari Thompson. “That I share it with my dear friend and the only remaining player left from the 50s and 60s, Satch Sanders, who doesn’t get enough attention. I would love to have him by my side.”

That is certainly not out of the question, though there is a good chance both guests he requested present will be there anyway. “And the other friend I would ask to join me is Governor Maura Healey who has become a good friend, and of course who has a basketball background,’ He added.

“She always references the Celtics and how they’re doing, so we’d talk ball and then solve the problems with the state.” Still, an important issue remained on Cousy’s mind.

“This puts us back ahead of the (Los Angeles) Lakers,” he noted. “o have been a part of that is as good a legacy as I could hope for.”

Was veteran Boston Celtics big man Al Horford the unsung hero of his team this past season?

Who was the guy who exceeded expectations and contributed more to the teams’ success than expected on a consistent basis?

Was veteran Boston Celtics big man Al Horford the unsung hero of his team this past season? Among all of the stars the 2023-24 NBA Champion Celtics had on their roster on their way to hanging Banner 18, who was the guy who exceeded expectations and contributed more to the teams’ success than expected on a consistent basis?

To answer such a question, the hosts of the CLNS Media “The Big Three NBA” podcast, A. Sherrod Blakely, Gary Washburn, and Kwani Lunis make a case for reserve combo guard Payton Pritchard and Horford in particular as the team’s unsung heroes last season.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

What was it like to be out on the floor as the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Championship?

Thankfully, we have people out there who can answer this question definitively in Derrick White and Al Horford.

What was it like to be out on the court as the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Championship and Banner 18 with it? Thankfully, we have some people out there who can answer this question definitively in Celtics starting point guard Derrick White and veteran Boston big man Al Horford.

Horford, White and teammate Payton Pritchard all received a celebratory championship shave from Gillette as part of their 2024 NBA championship celebration a week after winning Game 5 of the NBA finals. And while they were in the chair, they had plenty to say about the series that got them there.

Will Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown improve after winning a ring?

Can Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown elevate their games after leading the Boston Celtics to a record 18th championship in franchise history?

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown finally led the Boston Celtics to a championship. They overcame the Dallas Mavericks in five games to gift Boston its 18th championship in franchise history and finally dispelled the notion that they couldn’t win while playing on the same team. Tatum and Brown both enjoyed strong seasons, with each star embracing a new role within Joe Mazzulla’s rotation.

In the latest episode of “Ticket and the Truth,” Celtics legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce discuss whether winning their first championship will spur Tatum and Brown to elevate their games to new heights. The pair will likely face a dogfight to retain their championship in the upcoming season.

Garnett and Pierce could not add a second ring to their resumes during their Boston tenure. However, they could see Tatum and Brown going one step further and cementing their names within Celtics history.
