Everything to know about Bears 2022 training camp

With the Bears back at Halas Hall, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about training camp this summer.

Training camp is officially underway for the Chicago Bears, as veterans reported to Halas Hall on Tuesday. Rookies and quarterbacks started arriving back on Saturday. The first practice of the summer is scheduled for Wednesday.

This will mark the third time the Bears will hold training camp at Halas Hall after 18 years practicing at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, which left many fans feeling disappointed about the move.

As the Bears kick off camp, we’ve gathered everything you need to know about training camp, from the schedule to fan attendance to our training camp coverage to our early 53-man roster predictions.

Pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction for Bears

Training camp is here, so we’re taking another crack at predicting the Bears’ 53-man roster for the 2022 NFL season.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp, which kicks off a new era of Bears football under GM Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. Chicago is bringing 90 players to camp, and they’ll need to narrow it down to 53 by Aug. 30.

This roster has been overhauled this offseason, and no one is guaranteed a roster spot — except maybe Justin Fields and Roquan Smith. There will be roster spots and starting jobs up for grabs, which should make for an interesting summer.

Ahead of training camp, here’s my early predictions for the Bears’ 53-man roster:

Bear Necessities: Veterans report for training camp today

The unofficial start to the season begins with training camp as Bears veterans report to Halas Hall for training camp today.

This is our online morning newsletter, Bear Necessities. Subscribe to get the latest Bears news delivered to your mailbox every day.

It’s been a long offseason, but Chicago Bears football is back! The unofficial start to the season begins with training camp as veterans report to Halas Hall in Lake Forest today. They join rookies and quarterbacks, who started reporting on Saturday.

General manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Ebeflus are both meeting with the media today, and we’ll have a full recap of the action here on Bears Wire.

The Bears will hold their first practice on Wednesday, which is closed to the public, with their first open practice slated for Thursday at 10 a.m. CT. Fans are allowed at Halas Hall for 11 open practices, but a free ticket is required (see more here).

There’s some good news this morning as second-round safety Jaquan Brisker is finalizing his four-year rookie deal after a short holdout regarding guaranteed money in the third year of his deal. Brisker will report to camp with the veterans and won’t miss any practices, which is great news for the starting strong safety.

But it’s not all good news following news that star linebacker Roquan Smith won’t be practicing at training camp due to a contract dispute. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “Smith has not yet received an offer he would remotely consider.” The hope is Poles is able to handle this contract situation as swiftly as he did the Brisker one, which lasted just a few short days.

Bears LB Roquan Smith holding out of training camp due to contract situation

The Bears will be without their best player when they kick off training camp as LB Roquan Smith holds out due to his contract situation.

The Chicago Bears will be without their best player when veterans report to training camp on Tuesday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, linebacker Roquan Smith won’t be participating in camp due to his contract situation.

Per Rapoport, “Smith has not yet received an offer he would remotely consider, thus he’ll wait.”

Smith, a former first-round draft pick in 2018, has established himself as one of the league’s best linebackers over the last couple of seasons.

Earlier this offseason, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that contract talks between Smith and the Bears were expected “to heat up some time this summer.” The belief is Smith, who Fowler notes should push $20 million annually, is the top priority for general manager Ryan Poles.

When asked about a contract extension with the Bears, Smith made it clear that he envisions himself in Chicago for the long haul.

“Absolutely, yeah,” Smith said. “That’s my plan.”

Earlier this offseason, Poles expressed a desire to get an extension done with Smith before the start of the regular season, but he also noted there’s no real timeline in place.

“I don’t know if that’s how we’re going to handle it, but I would like to,” Poles said. “Obviously the earlier you get to that, the better. But also with a new staff, we may wait a little bit, too.”

Smith becomes the second player to holdout ahead of training camp due to a contract issue. Second-round rookie safety Jaquan Brisker is holding out due to an issue about the amount of guaranteed money in Brisker’s third year of his four-year deal.

Interestingly enough, this is the second time Smith will be holding out of training camp. He missed four weeks of camp due to a contract issue during his rookie season.

Panthers 2022 training camp preview: Full schedule, top storylines to watch

With two days until the first Panthers players report to training camp, here are the most important players and storylines to keep an eye out for.

The Carolina Panthers haven’t struggled to make headlines this offseason.

It all started with the team’s all-out pursuit of Deshaun Watson, which yielded nothing more for Carolina than broken dignity and further uncertainty around the leader of the offense. But since then, general manager Scott Fitterer has created a real competition under center and revamped the offensive line tasked with protecting whoever wins it. Paired with some notable acquisitions on defense and an underrated signing on special teams, the Panthers look like a different team entering the 2022 season.

Now, with two days until the squad reports to training camp, these are the players and storylines to keep an eye out for as the blurrier parts of Carolina’s depth chart begin to come into focus.

Bears rookies, quarterbacks report to training camp today

Bears rookies and quarterbacks report to the team’s 2022 training camp at Halas Hall starting today.

It’s been a long summer, but the wait is finally over as the Chicago Bears gear up for the start of training camp.

Bears rookies and quarterbacks report to Halas Hall beginning Saturday, July 23. The rest of the team will report to the team’s Lake Forest facility on Tuesday, July 26.

Chicago will practice for the first time on Wednesday, July 27, which is closed to the public. The Bears’ first open practice will be on Thursday, where a free ticket is required for entry (See the full schedule here).

All eyes will be on second-year quarterback Justin Fields, who enters training camp as the undisputed starter. Unlike last summer, Fields will be getting all of the reps with the starters. The Bears are installing a new offense under Luke Getsy, one that caters to Fields’ skillset. But the quarterback room is going to look different following the departure of Andy Dalton and Nick Foles this offseason. Chicago signed Trevor Siemian and Nathan Peterman to serve as Fields’ reserves.

The Bears have an intriguing group of rookies this year, including several who are expected to be immediate contributors. That includes cornerback Kyler Gordon, safety Jaquan Brisker, wide receiver Velus Jones Jr., offensive tackle Braxton Jones and punter Trenton Gill. Unfortunately, Brisker isn’t expected to be among those reporting to Halas Hall as he’s in the middle of a contract holdout.

Our Bears Wire staff is sharing their biggest question about the team ahead of training camp next week.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp next week, and there are no shortage of storylines to follow this summer.

With a new regime in place, quarterback Justin Fields and linebacker Roquan Smith are probably the only players truly guaranteed a roster spot at this point. Safe to say, it’s going to be an entertaining camp with plenty of competition for starting jobs and roster spots.

Our Bears Wire staff is sharing their biggest question about the team heading into training camp, which includes some big concerns on offense and a looming question for a certain edge rusher.

Bears 2022 training camp preview: Special teams

We’re taking a look at the Bears special teams ahead of training camp and examining the biggest question facing the position group.

Chicago Bears training camp is less than a month away, which means it’s time to start looking ahead at the roster the team is bringing to Lake Forest.

We wrap things up with special teams. There are some familiar faces returning this season in kicker Cairo Santos and long snapper Patrick Scales. But the biggest change comes with the Bears’ new punter. For the first time in almost a decade, Pat O’Donnell will not be punting in Chicago. In his place is seventh-round rookie Trenton Gill.

Let’s take a look at the special teams heading into training camp:
