2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic best value prop bets for 3 golfers

3 golfers to profit on at the 2022 Rocket Mortage Classic, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Golf Club hosts the 4th 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic starting Thursday in the penultimate PGA Tour event before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin. Below, we tab the best value prop bets on a trio of golfers among the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Reigning champion Cameron Davis (No. 67 in Golfweek/Sagarin rankings) won last year’s tournament in a playoff against Troy Merritt (No. 61) and Joaquin Niemann (No. 24). Other notable golfers include Sunday’s 3M Open winner Tony Finau (No. 25) and Patrick Cantlay (No. 2).

The 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic will be played at the Detroit Golf Club’s North course, which is a par 72 with a 7,370 yardage, and the winner takes home $1.512 million of the $8.4 million pool.

Chris Kirk

Kirk is the top-ranked golfer per my numbers and we’re getting a good price for him at the Classic because he missed back-to-back cuts at the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship across the pond.

Otherwise, the 40th-ranked Kirk had 6 top-20 finishes in his previous 11 tournaments, including 4 top-10 finishes with a 5th-place finish at the 2022 PGA Championship.

Strokes Gained (SG): Around-the-green (ARG) play a bigger factor in a golfer’s scoring at the Rocket Mortgage Classic than most PGA Tour events because the greens are harder to hit than the tour average. Kirk is 3rd in SG: ARG over his last 50 rounds, per FantasyNational.com.

Also, your wedge-game needs to be on-point at the Detroit Golf Club since there are a lot of 2nd shots on the North course and Kirk is 8th in this field at Proximity: 100-125 (FantasyNational.com).

Finally, Kirk has the 4th-best SG: Total in the Classic field with a 12th-place finish in 2021 and a 21st in 2020.

  • $12.50 for winner (+5000) to earn a $625 profit
  • $12.50 for top-5 finish (+1200) to earn a $150 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+600) to earn a $150 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+280) to earn a $280 profit

Russell Henley

Henley’s iron- and wedge-games are insane and rank 1st in this field for both SG: Approach and Proximity: 75-100 over the last 50 rounds, according to FantasyNational.com.

The reason Henley is going for a modest price is because he missed the cut in his only Rocket Mortgage Classic played (2019) and he’s just 47th in SG: Total over his last 24 rounds.

However, Henley has struggled over that span because those 24 rounds included all 4 majors, THE PLAYERS Champion and Genesis Invitational, which are all very difficult events.

The 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic, on the other hand, should be a birdie-fest and Henley is 4th in this field for SG: Total at events with easy scoring conditions and 2nd in SG: Total for comp courses used.

  • $12.50 for winner (+5000) to earn a $625 profit
  • $12.50 for top-5 finish (+1200) to earn a $150 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+550) to earn a $137.50 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+260) to earn a $260 profit

Cameron Young

Young is one of the top young golfers in the world and he’s 3rd in SG: Total for this field over his last 24 rounds with a 2nd-place finish at The Open Championship, 3rd at the PGA Championship, 2nd at the Wells Fargo Championship and 3rd at the RBC Heritage.

Also, Young has picked up strokes ARG in 8 of his last 10 events and is 1st in this field for both Opportunities Gained and Birdies-or-better Gained. Young has put up some low rounds this season and that’s the type of golfer I’m looking to stake in the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

  • $12.50 for winner (+3000) to earn a $375 profit
  • $12.50 for top-5 finish (+500) to earn a $62.50 profit
  • $25 for top-10 finish (+270) to earn a $67.50 profit
  • $100 for top-20 finish (+125) to earn a $125 profit
